A slightly trivial point, but is anyone else dreading the next time they need to sing the national anthem, due to the near-certainty of getting the words wrong? Or is that just me?
I actually think it would be fitting for the anthem to be retired in her memory. I find it hard to get my head around it being titled/sung in any other way.
It has been our National Anthem for over 200 years and smoothly changed to God Save the King when Victoria died - it should remain.

The national anthem has been sung since 1744, originally titled as 'God Save the King'. Why would it be retired?
I recall when I was young there were a fair number of coins with the king's head on them. And I was born in 1964, 12 years after the coronation. I don't recall any notes to be fair but they don't last as long. Of course what happened then and what happens now may not be the same but there needn't be a rush to change the currency, just newly produced ones. It will be nice to have her face around day to day life for some time to come yet.
Pennies and ha'pennies with Queen Victoria's head on the reverse were still in circulation right up to decimalisation of money in February 1971 ....... and she had died in January 1901. Many coins were worn smooth as a button but you could still make out the date of issue. As a boy during the late 1960s, I managed to collect a few including one dated 1854, more than 100 years later then still in circulation.
Amazing woman right until the end of her life, what an example to us all. Think the news will hit different age groups very differently as the longer you’ve lived the more she has been entwined into your life and memories. Quick question as we have all lived in the Elizabethan era what will this next era be called.

This isn't a football shirt. You can't retire a National Anthem, which represents a nation, not an individual.
God save our gracious King, Long live our noble King, God save the King, Send him victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us, God save the King.

I think you might be on to something there. It sounds a good idea to me.
And me. I think the Queen was deserving of those words... Charles? Not sure...

We used to tease my Mum about it, but even though she sang the right words, she still referred to the National Anthem as 'God Save the King' up to her dying day!

Worried you might sing the Sex Pistols version by mistake?
Did they record a god save the king at the same time?

According to Google (must be right!) it could be the Carolean era. After the Latin for Charles, apparently.
King Charles has left Balmoral to travel to London.
"King Charles" is going to take a lot of time to get used to.
Thinking about it I rarely ever said or thought Queen Elizabeth, it was simply The Queen.
Thinking and saying ‘The King’ is what’s going to take time.
Queen Elizabeth was commonly used in the 50s and 60s. But as time went on - and via directions directly from the Sovereign herself - it became simply The Queen - on plaques, correspondence etc (some of this was to avoid confusion with her mother Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother). As of yesterday we return to using her full title.
Never thought I would want Boris back but…when I saw Truss’ pretty robotic speech outside of Downing Street yesterday I did think that this would be a rare occasion where Boris would do a good job.

tbf its quite clear to me that the speech outside downing street was deliberately very middle of the road and designed for anyone of any political party to be able to say it and had been cleared by the palace a long time before.

Oh I’m sure the words followed some sort of agreed form, it’s more the oratory skills to deliver it that I meant.
I just don't understand the affection people have for the Monarchy. I'm clearly the odd one out in that regard.
I don’t believe in monarchy, but I love the Queen. Great servant to our country and I’m confident Charles will be a significant downgrade when the time comes (hopefully not for a long time).
Like you mate --A system where you are born into priviledge is a system ,past its use by date. But the Windsors as family folk are OK. I disagree about Charles, he has the common touch, and a quirky sense of humour like Liz and Phil .Any fan of the Telegoons, is a friend of mine
Watching the news now and if she has sadly departed then i hope they manage to release another 'final' photo of her. Seems a bit of a piss take that if after everything she did in her life, the final photo of her in existence is with Liz Truss!
Who wrote a thesis when she was younger explaining how we dont need the monarchy Tories how do they sleep at night ?

Looked like a re-enactment group if anything.
