2022 January transfer window thread - Non Charlton, other transfers (D Day p52)

It was only a thought. I said "could be affordable" as I have no idea how much we could afford but felt a L2 striker with 6m left on his contract might be within budget... I have never claimed to know what we can afford but it's a thought on message board.paulfox said:
How much can we afford then? Just wondering, is there a direct link to TS bank account that I’ve not seen, as so many seem to know what we can and can’t afford.🤷🏻♂️Athletico Charlton said:
Gives us a chance then. They are 16 points and 2 games in hand ahead of us, we are no rival. That said, I suspect he went there for the wages they were offering so even if they would move him on I don't see us affording him.ElliotCAFC said:
I was desperate for us to get him in the summer, can’t see Wigan selling him in January to a (potential) rival though.Swisdom said:I quite like Steven Humphrys as a striker. Went to Wigan in the summer and it’s not happening.
similar to Stockers he’s a physical player but also decent with his feet. I don’t think he’d cost a vast amount but definitely a step up on Davison
Dom Telford at Newport only has 6 months left.on his contract if Wiki is correct and seems to be ashing it in L2 with a goal every 80mins so far this season. Could be affordable, is 25 and has ventured south before.

I agree. It wasn’t bad because of the quality of the players. It was too slow and things were poorly timed.golfaddick said:

Apart from Kirk (who at the time most people thought was a great signing) and Arter who else did we sign in the summer that was very poor recruitment?golfaddick said:
Love to see him back. Much better option off the bench than Davison.Sage said:
Well that cat got let out rather easily.Swisdom said:We are interested in an Aneke loan from what I’ve heard. Think he’s pissed off with the lack of minutes.
id be surprised if we kept Arter unless we have to. If there is an option to return I’d expect us to take it
I had spoken to a few people about the Aneke interest and anticipated the club wanted it kept quiet as a number of other clubs (near the top of the league) have also kept tabs. We have the links, of course, and I hope it’s one we manage to pull off.
However, we could get Harry Kane AND Mo Salah in & we still wouldnt make the play offs.
This season is a write off. Adkins not being fired soon enough & very poor recruitment has meant a wasted season & yet another season in this god forsaken League for 22/23.
Stockley, Craig Mac, Famewo, Clare, Dobson, Lavelle and Lee have all been good. CBT has done ok. Souare average but hasn't really played much. Leko hasn't really got going but again most people were happy with him signing.
So that's 2 duds out of 12, which isn't bad going really and certainly not what i'd call 'very poor'. Even Man City sign players who don't perform as expected.
We didnt replace Aneke.
We started the season with no fit left back & so played a right back there.
Eventually when we did bring in a left back he hadnt played competitively for 2 years.
We were short on numbers & panicked towards the end of the transfer window by loaning players who (like the left back) weren't match fit.
And to cap it all, a week after the transfer window ends when we cant bring anyone in, we release one of our strikers leaving us with just 3 - 1 of which (Davison) is still young & inexperienced and frankly isnt up to much (so much so we are now asking an even younger player (18 year old Burstow) to step up.
So yes.....I'd say that was pretty poor recruitment, wouldn't you.
Never mind though because we can just go through the same rigmorole in the summer.1 -

Charltonised already.1 -
I don’t think we’ll see anything other than a couple of speculative young players on permanent deals and one maybe two loans. Attacking MF is my complete guess.1

Wasn’t a personal dig, but quite a few make this type of statement, but none of us have clue about the real finances.Athletico Charlton said:

Be surprised if we don’t go in for a striker. Obviously our form under Jacko has been superb but it’s noticeable that the poor performances were without Stockley. We don’t look anywhere near the same side without Washington either. Definitely need another or we’ll burn them out.1
-
You could replace "Stockley" and "Washington" with 5 or 6 players. This team is very good when all 7 or 8 irreplaceables are playing but gets worse very quickly when more than 1 or 2 are missing.cafcfan1990 said:Be surprised if we don’t go in for a striker. To have a realistic chance of getting in the play offs that 8 needs to come down to 3 or 4 maximum. Next season it needs to be 1 or 2 maximum BEFORE the season starts.3 -
Mathew Stevens is in talks with Forest Green about a new contract. His expires in the summer so I'd like to see us go in for him in January rather than wait otherwise it could pass us by

Fair point, I guess under Jacko yet we haven’t seen it much so the strikers stand out. I agree though I’d be concerned if we were without any of the CMs, Famewo or Purrington. JFC returning helps the midfield and Clare could be a lot better there than under Adkins. I’d like a LCB in this window too though to cover Famewo.Cafc43v3r said:

Matthew Stevens is rated by many.
Any club will have to get to the end of the Cue. He is Welsh, big and strong but he spends too long watching the action and needs a rest.

Celtic have signed three Japanese players already.

All run of the mill J League players, which as a standard is no higher than lower Championship/top of League 1. There's a reason why a 37 year old Iniesta is bossing the league out there and is easily the best playerHenry Irving said:Celtic have signed three Japanese players already.

Stayed there when it was the Woolwich Building Society training centre, it was supposedly haunted. Remember that as I was checking in the telly near reception was reporting that Graham Stuart had just signed for us.soapboxsam said:Mendonca In Asdas said:

But also it's because it's a farmer's league, worse in quality than MLS, another league that a 37 year old can go and play in and look world class still. Iniesta doesn't have the quality or stamina to still play in the top leagues, otherwise he'd still be at Barcacafcfan1990 said:
