I love him as we all do, but Brownie...dial it down a bit...

I think he’s an acquired taste, but I like him now.1

Is the commentary on the TV coverage the same as those who just have the audio , if so then I believe talking a lot makes sense0
-
I really enjoy listening to him to be honest. Keep it up Brownie.3

Sure....me, too...robroy said:I really enjoy listening to him to be honest. Keep it up Brownie.
 But....were you listening last night?0

This is the point that I think some are missing.Siv_in_Norfolk said:

Like many others, I generally quite like Brownie’s commentary. But last night was really bad.5

Thing is with Brownie is, he is a pundit not a commentator, and that bloody red card stuff last night was bordering on the obsessive, the guy knows his stuff agreed, but commentate on the game and leave the analyzing to the studio at half time and full time..0
-
He was on Talksport the other night, on Benties evening show.0

The thing with Brown, like it or not, is he is holding league 1 footballers to Premier league standards.6
-
I agree with Brownie 90% of the time. It’s just that he never ever shuts up. It’s absolutely relentless. He make his point using 100 words when 20 would do and then makes it again. And again. And again. Absolute verbal diahorea.5

            Quality geezer Brownie.
It's said meeting your heroes can be a let down but after meeting him at the station back from Wimbledon away last year, it was not the case.
In 15 minutes back to Clapham Junction we managed to not talk about Charlton, he was telling me he was going on holiday the next day, I said about moving to Brazil.
A top, top geezer is Steve Brown.6

Be careful what you wish for - remember CTV is under review this season and we won’t have it next season. You’ll all miss him then!13

I prefer his analysis in the studio to his match commentaries, which can be a bit negative!altrinchamaddick said:I disagree, I like his analysis, and interpretations of formations and tactics. He can be a tad negative, but overall I feel he adds to the match experience.0

I prefer Steve Brown with Curbs and Scott or Charlotte and leave Terry and Greg to the game.
I understand his point about going for the jugular when they were down to 10 but with a game on the Saturday and 3-1 and 4-1 up the main thing was good game management and don't get any unnecessary injuries or bookings.
 4 goals isn't too shabby even against 10 players.5

He sounds like he's commentating for a hospital service when in game. Prefer him in the studio, as if he goes on too far, he just gets ripped for his dress sense.0
-
He commentates as he played, 100% passion, 100% commitment.
Loved him as a player, and when I tune in to Scotty, Brownie and Curbs, I feel like I'm with family, even at 4 am in the morning.
Makes me laugh when he says things like "throw your body in the way".
There was no one better at that than Brownie, and Arsenal 2 Charlton 4 springs to mind immediately.
Why Curbs continually dropped him in favour of Carl Tyler I'll never know, but he still has tremendous respect for Curbs which is great to see.3

I will admit I was at the game so didn't listen to comms. But when I watch, I love having Scott, Curbs and Brownie in the studio. It is better than any Sky/BT show and it is just for Charlton fans. I like that Steve Brown holds the defenders to account because our defending in the last couple of years has been unacceptable (even for league one, let alone the premier league). I think that being in the studio gives him the opportunity to discuss with other football experts too.
Whether in the studio or on comms though, he is a wonderful asset to CTV and I am really glad he is on it.3

It was a bit much on Tuesday night and sometimes it's better to use fewer words, though I suppose I forget that it's also a radio commentary.0

Enjoy all the coverage from CATV. The analysis and insight is spot on. Keep it up Brownie!

Meanwhile Terry gets away wirh claiming CBT made a save rather than AMB on Tuesday.
 Brownies not the problem here.

I like Terry, seems a nice bloke but his questions seem to take about about 30 seconds!2

Top bloke Brownie - now where’s the brochure to chuck ?!0

Asked this on the match thread but wasn't answered... where's Greg Stubley? Have always enjoyed his commentary but doesn't seem to appear as often now. Hopefully just a temporary thing?0

He’s on holiday. Also works in cricket so the early months of the season often clash with his main job.Talal said:Asked this on the match thread but wasn't answered... where's Greg Stubley? My issue too...ends up answering his own questions...get to the point and let the interviewee do the talking please.cafcsinger said:I like Terry, seems a nice bloke but his questions seem to take about about 30 seconds!

I like Brownie in the sense that he can often take the neutral viewpoint
You go on Commentary at times for various Sports, and there will always be people complaining about the biasedness from the commentators
F1 for example, the ROW pay for Sky's feed so they get Crofty / Brundle favouring the British drivers, and feel that they should be more neutral because their product is going out Internationally.
However sometimes it can just be a little bit OTT from Brownie in that regard.0

I’d forgotten that I started this thread, two years ago. I’d say that since then he has improved, Tuesday was a bit of a lapse. I do agree that much the better set-up is Greg with Terry and Brownie in the studio with Curbs to keep him real. As for Terry, I love him. Post match questions are always a bit crap no matter who does them. Yet especially when we lose we all want to hear how the manager explains it.But take note please of @Weegie Addick warning above. Overall the current set-up is the only thing about the club, apart from The Valley itself, worthy of a higher division. Don’t give Charlie any excuses.4

I love the whole Charlton TV show ( especially now we've lost the Addicks To Victory song) and I find all the people involved knowledgeable and entertaining. Do I agree with everyone that gets said? No! But I can apply that to most topics. But as was said above, Brownie adds some passion, and long may that continue.3

If you think Brownie talks a lot we should get Paul Elliot in to do commentary for a game. 🤣2
