I love him as we all do, but Brownie...dial it down a bit...

  • Love the coverage. Love the quality of the “product”. Love Gregg and Tel, Curbs and Brownie, etc. (Lisbie has been a decent recent addition to the roster too). Brownie does go a bit sometimes but that’s who is and he’s also 100% Charlton and the fact the whole team have real a personalities and bounce and banter off each other is all part of what makes it a good show.

I would absolutely hate to lose it. Living abroad it’s the only way I can watch us play and, even while we’ve been so shit, it’s still something I look forward to each week. In fact, sad as it sounds, it’s one of the only things I have to look forward to most weeks so is very important to me, personally. I would be devastated if the club shut it down.
Unfortunately I think it's already been confirmed that this is the last season of Charlton TV due to the Sky Sports deal, or something or other.

When was this announced, I missed it.

    It hasn't been officially announced.
    It's just looking likely.
  • I think some are getting the wrong end of the stick here.

As far as I am aware, clubs can still stream their games overseas when the new sky deal comes in if they choose to do so.

So whilst those abroad might still get to see the games, what is looking more unlikely is charlton tv continuing in its current form. So no Scott, Curbs or Brownie talking about the game.

Whilst that would be a huge loss, as the current product is fantastic, especially when you consider the great price, having anything, even just a standard stream would be infinitely better nothing and I’d be very happy to continue paying, despite using a dodgy IPTV link every week.

Sky say the existing international arrangements remain in place. However the new deal means we are 5x more likely to be shown live on Sky, and when that happens, Charlton TV cannot show the live game, as Sky syndicate the game out internationally. The international deal is negotiated separately, and has only just been sealed for four years. They are not saying anything but its far from clear what they will send out internationally when they show so many games domestically -still less whether any international channel will want to show 5 League One games in one weekend. We’ve been shafted.

I like Terry, seems a nice bloke but his questions seem to take about about 30 seconds!
He is not a good interviewer. Stark contrast when Charlotte did the post match stuff the other week, which was very good.

You may well be right but this passage from the following -
https://www.skysports.com/football/news/21564/12873679/sky-sports-agrees-new-five-year-efl-deal-over-1000-matches-per-season - seems to imply games will still be streamed abroad.

"From the 2024/25 season onward, this agreement makes more matches available to stream and will effectively replace the current Sky Sports EFL red button coverage and the EFL's domestic streaming option provided via iFollow and club streaming services. Domestic streaming audio services will remain alongside existing audio-visual arrangements for international audiences via iFollow and club streaming services."

I read the same thing before posting. You may not be aware of how it works now abroad. When Sky cover a Charlton game, Charlton TV cannot broadcast even abroad, because the EFL “international partners” have all signed up to the Sky deal. In principal we should be able to pay our local international partner and watch via them. Of course in practice in countries like this of course they don’t show English League One. They get a bigger audience showing handball matches. The internaional EFL deal is separate to the domestic one. So its not clear how it will work next season.

As long as it’s shown somewhere in the world, streams will be available, so the combination of whatever’s left of cafctv and dodgy streams should mean every game is still available.

    Fingers crossed.
