I do agree that a nominal amount is charged for each ticket to stop the wasted get something for nothing purchases. Maybe discount the next ticket bought to balance it out for the people who are serious about turning up?
There are four problems I see with this offer base:
1. it encourages people to easily take tickets they don’t end up using for one reason or another
2. There is no follow up ability from the club to any of the new people that are giving the tickets to tempt them with future comms and offers etc
3. A fair amount of those taking up the tickets may be fans that were already intending to come and pay for the tickets
4. It makes some people think twice about buying season tickets / tickets if there is the perception there are always going to be a number of offers / freebies available throughout a season
Balancing that, the positives are that it introduces some new people to the club, linked through existing fans there’s a higher chance they may come more regularly, it improves the attendance and atmosphere and does create an additional spend when on site.
Been massively helped so far by the performance of the last two games. Let’s hope we make it a hat trick today
You only have to look at the threads on here to confirm number 3 is correct. Fans without season tickets who would normally purchase a single ticket getting in for free
That’s OK, just adds to the feel good factor experience they will have which will keep encouraging them to attend, or maybe buy a half season ticket
We've found it harder to get people along with us today. I'll be interested to see the 'real' aattendance is, as opposed to the junk data that's published.

Yeah, didn't get any for anyone this time and nobody asked.
Agree with all Rodney's points, above. In addition I'd think probably Cambridge don't seem as big a draw as table topping Plymouth or big spending Ipswich. Ultimately though, one of the reasons people don't commit to buying season tickets is because they have other things in their life. If time is an issue, free tickets won't make that difference - at least, not on a regular basis.
First game at the Valley for me for what seems like a lifetime. How the area has changed in that time. At the Oak meeting my kids, brothers, nephews and mates. Absolutely delighted to be back, proper football. C’MON YOU REDDDDSSS
Just sitting in my car watching the City Wolves match on my phone and the numbers walking past is heartwarming … old, middle aged, young … whatever people think, this initiative is a winner, IMO

I stepped off the bus into the middle of Cambridge's element? Being escorted from the White horse. Most a bit worse for drink.

I've bought tickets for tomorrow , basically because I have no friends.
100% record for me so far this season- two games, two wins, no goals conceded. Offers to buy me a half year season ticket to guarantee promotion will be considered! ;-)
Just thought I'd bump this. Now 3 home league games, 3 wins, no goals conceded.
The initiative definitely needs to be tweaked before they do it again.
Couldn't buy an extra ticket before the game as there were none available, and then I turned up to see thousands upon thousands of empty seats. Money lost.
Used 2 of mine to try a new block, not bad in H upper but still prefer to be by the drums. On another note, crossbars was heaving today.. definitely the busiest I've seen it this season.

Obviously these past few games, Sandgaard didn't care about losing a small amounts of money on late ticket sales. Was about trying to get some people back to future games. Good initiative and with the performances and results, hopefully mission accomplished.

All well good but how many are coming back why they have to pay full price?
No marketing re the individuals who are coming in the ground. Schoolboy error there. At least get an email address. Basics!

It's not good if people who would otherwise go, can't as a result
I was late for the kickoff vs Plymouth due to the crowds getting through the Curbs turnstiles. At both the Ipswich and Cambridge games I got through very quickly. Yes people understand the technology more now, but it's also a reflection of the actual numbers attending
good good day - not quite as many there as against plymouth but a lot more than against ipswich and pretty full - 20k at least actual bodies there - drummer has been and is great but needs to drop the new tunes and the twist and shout shite and let the big anthems off once we are 2 up

If people would have usually gone anyway, then they would have already sorted tickets. If people go regularly but can't book tickets 'til last minute, then that's unfortunate. But this was just a short term promotion hoping on longer term gains. Back to normal for the next home games and everyone who can only confirm last minute will be back to normal.

You’ve vastly overestimated mate. Knock a good 5k off of that. North Upper and Lower looked emptier than Tuesday night

It was worth a try, and arguably enhanced the atmosphere. Income from food, drink and shop may have helped. I find it difficult to believe that no-one who got free tickets recently will return. And anyone who canonly ever book tickets last minute, and missed out these games, will be back anyway and back to normal the next home game.
In the longer term, we're not going to lose any supporter numbers or revenue because of the recent initiative. only increase the chance of improving numbers.

Anybody got the numbers and done the calcs to see what these last 3 games have done to our average home gates ?

Others will be Christmas shopping/ decorating this weekend and others hanging after xmas dos.
Reality is we'll unlikely see consistent 20k plus crowds outside the premier league or during a real promotion push in top half of the championship.
