We've not had the best of luck with referees turning a blind eye to fouls costing us goals, both today and at Morecambe.
Yeah, its not like Washington didnt give the Rotherham defender a shove when he scored his goal a few weeks back.
Shit happens. Decisions go for & against you. If we were 2-0 up at that stage it wouldnt have mattered.
I don't mind being called out now & again but I'll say what I've said since the start of the season. We are not good enough for top 6 - under Adkins, Jackson or whoever else. Will be lucky to finish between 10th & 12th. Top half could be doable but anyone thinking we are going to go on a run like Blackpool, Oxford blah blah blah need their lumps felt. We are not strong enough & don't have the firepower, either up front or in midfield for us to win games comfortably.
We are currently 6 points from relegation and 11 from top 6, with many teams having 1 or even 2 games on us. A good run should see us secure in the top half, a bad run could see us in the relegation pack again.
We need at least one decent striker in January preferably 2. We really only have Stockley & Washington and it has shown what happens when the poorer of the 2 is out for just 3 games. God forbid one gets a lengthy injury. We are also carrying too many players who arent getting games or looking like getting games......Watson, Morgan, Arter are but 3. Arter we might be able to cut short, Morgan we might be able to send out on loan & Watson...? I'd pay his contract up if that can count as being off the books for squad numbers.
And that is just so we can stay up. Another squad rebuild will have to be done in the summer because this season is over as to promotion hopes.
I think it’s obvious to all where our problems are, the CB injuries again are throwing things out of whack a bit, we are not far from the transfer window where I expect a couple of strikers ( at the least one), hopefully some injured players back and a few shipped out. I’m sure JJ sees this. Results like today happen to every side. Things have been much better, but I am interested to see how JJ reacts as this is why I’ve been happy to wait on any appointment. I said hold off for at least ten games and nothing has changed in my mind whether we had won today or not. If we are not too far off the pace,This January window I think will be very important if TS can be a bit bold. However it’s not the best time to try and get good players other sides want to keep. I’m disappointed by today but ffs the drama from some is ridiculous. We are so much better than we were a month or so ago, because we were going down fact!!!.
Disappointing to lose to a 93rd minute goal gained by a clear foul - that the second god awful referee in a week somehow missed (again). Gutting as it is, refereeing decisions tend to even out over a season. With our main centre backs playing, we are winning and drawing these games. There is no need to panic. Clear lesson for Thomas Sandgaard is that if you take out Stockley (main striker), it exposes the need for a second decent covering striker.
Unfortunately in this league you get results like that. It does mean that the "play off" dream is simply that a dream. Season is a write off.
Yeah, in Bowyer's promotion year, remember Rochdale away? We dropped to 13th.
Didn't stop us being promoted though.
Totally but do we honestly believe we have even a fraction of the team we did that season? I hope we can do it, but 9 defeats in 20 games might be a step too far.
EDIT: We lost just 10 games that season...
To win promotion, it's not the games you lose, but the games you win. That's when the points quickly stack up.
There's 26 games left ..... 78 points to play for. To make the playoffs we have to find promotion form = 2 points per game. Jacko's got 14 from 21.
Sure our team is not as strong as in 2019 - although there's bound to be some team strengthening in the January window. That year we didn't get our run started until early March, 12 wins in 15 was it?
A setback today, sure. But the season a write off? Nah.
after the heroics and effort V Plymouth - two away days with journeys overnights lack of training, injuries, no Stockley.... Are we honestly surprised that Jacko's Addicks run has came to an end ? A horrible goal - the ref should have blown for the foul and MacGillivray should have saved, should have been 0-0 but this is League One. It's time to keep calm - two weeks of FA cup & PJ cup to play the subs and U23's and rest, train and re-group the first X1 ...we go again v Ipswich hopefully for a night game which will have the Valley Rocking again....
Anyone who blames JJ for today is an idiot. we deserved a point in a game that was horrible against a team of bashers that parked the bus for long intervals and a total WANKER of a third rate referee 👎👎👎 bad day and 1 point out of a possible 6. we still need a proper striker !!
What a massive over reaction from some people on here . That was our first loss under Jacko and we didn’t deserve it . Both teams were shit and we got a bad refereeing decision that lead to the goal .
We was always going to lose at some stage and this was it . Get over it and stop treating it as the end of the world and Jacko is all of a sudden a shit manager .
Gutted. We never looked like scoring, but we never looked like conceding either.
Some were desperate to see how we react to a loss, congratulations chaps you got the loss you seemingly wanted and now we all get to find out how we'll react.
Hate to say it... But is the foul on Dobson overly different to Pearce's challenge on Flanagan @ Wembley?
Was Dobson just a beaten man and has made it look worse than it actually looks in an attempt to win a Free-Kick out of a moment where the opponent has just been stronger
What rubbish. Dobson has won the ball and their player has come into his back while he is in the air. Clear foul. Their player gets nowhere near the ball and clearly beaten by Dobson. He even looked round to check with the referee almost in surprise it's been allowed!
If we struggle to create and score goals against a poor side because we have a single attacking player out, it points to poor recruitment.
Davison isn't good enough to be the back-up striker.
But it wasn't that long ago that Davison was the first choice striker and scoring goals, admittedly in a different system and under a different manager.
He looked better as the lone forward where his hard work and ability to both hold up play and run beyond were useful. Now, with Washington looking to run beyond and Gilbey and Lee looking to join from midfield, he looks lost, and his touch isn't good enough to play in tight spaces.
We had four strikers, five if you include Leko, plus a promising young Burstow, to start the season with a manager who staunchly played one up front. One forward didn't work out for what seems like personal reasons, and that happens. Leko is just coming back from injury. Stockley obviously out. And I think the mistake Jacko made today was having Kirk and not Burstow on the bench.
We do need a striker in January...which is famously not a good time to be looking for a striker because everyone else is looking for one as well. But to say that Davison shows poor recruitment is a bit harsh, even if he wasn't good enough today or in midweek. He looks like what he was supposed to be: a fourth choice forward for a third tier team.

And he is second choice because we had a poor recruitment in the summer.
There was no second choice striker minus Leko who is a Winger/Striker and doesn't suit our style of play in Stockley's role at all.
I wonder if the people begging Sandgaard to hire Jackson permanently and saying that we shouldn't wait are the same people now saying the honeymoon's over and wetting themselves because we're not winning every game anymore. I feel for Jackson in that we're in a real injury crisis but it isn't talked about anywhere near as much as it was under Bowyer. Missing 4 key defenders and turning up with a left back and a centre mid in the back three, and as a result costing ourselves one of our best attacking threats at LWB, it's no wonder we're a bit disjointed. We've got an issue up front in that Davison would ideally be 4th choice striker, but we only really have three. Leko was thrown in but is obviously coming back from injury and without Stockley we're seeing how much we need to get another striker in in January.
It's a shame how little calm there is on this board whenever we have a setback. We've struggled with injuries, tiredness as a result of that and some horrible refereeing decisions, and we've still seen a massive improvement under Jackson. Conceding that late hurts, but Jesus, some of you need to get it together. You don't get to play well and win every match, and if you need that then following a crap third division team isn't for you.
The voice of reason. Bang on. No more needs to be said.
Commendable management, making the best of what you have got. Thin squad. Given what we've got, recent run is probably as good as it gets. Let us not forget that many "great" managers are bank-rolled to success. Wonder how Sir Alec Ferguson may have got on at (no disrespect to) Halifax on their budget ? Having quality cover in duplicate is a managerial dream to which few can aspire. Like Lawrenson, Curbishley....... making the best of what is there, as in any profession, is the sign of good management.
Who is this Lawrenson you speak of?
Sorry, I am an old man that can remember "real" football, even though I have trouble remembering names. The mist is certainly rolling in for me! Congratulations on your swift observation, and scathing wit.
Excuse me ..... but I've just worked out your user name.

Yeah it's not like we have a transfer window coming up where we might be able to strengthen enough to keep some momentum.

Never looked like conceding? They were a few centimetres from a goal within 5 mins and then big Craig has pulled off a worldy too.
Bad day at the office and we move on, but let's not rewrite history.

Well, that's your normal worst case scenario, Golfie.
No one knows how the season will pan out ..... and we don't even know what our squad will look like at the end of January. Myself, I'm happy to wait and see how the season unfolds.
That's what a football season is all about really.
So I think it's pretty clear that the honeymoon phase is over for Jacko, and that's fine, completely normal, it's why it's called the honeymoon phase and not just the way things are.
I don't think it's a coincidence that we have struggled against teams who sit very deep, pack the box defensively, and look to snatch something from set pieces. It started really with Havant, and now we've seen it with Morcebame on Tuesday for stretches and today with Shrewsbury. Our pressing game and hitting teams quick on the counter has been fantastic. And sides higher up the table will look to go at you, creating spaces in behind and allow you to pressure them as they try and play.
Now, this next phase is figuring out how to break stubborn sides down. And it's one of the hardest things to do in football, especially at our level. The good news is, we have a couple of weeks before our next league game to work on this on the training ground. Look to get Lee higher up the pitch, getting Stockley back both for the crosses but also to drop off and link up the with midfield, working on Gilbey's timed runs into the box when other teams are sitting deep, refining the types of balls we put in from wide areas.
I still think Jacko is the man for the job, no doubt about that. But what comes next will be tough for a young coach.
about time referees were subject to post match analysis of their performances .. thing is there is a dire shortage of referees even of the present indifferent/poor standard and too much criticism might make them jack it in .. still, a decision like today's can cost players and managers livelihoods, mean missing out on promotions, cause relegations etc etc
Two forwards who are not prolific, we all know without Leko and Stockley we lack punch up front and can't break down packed defences. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water, we have players to come back who will improve the side but we need a forward who is prolific at this level and that needs to happen soon.
Hopefully the recruitment strategy will be better next summer and a promotion squad is built. Squad not team. Injuries and suspensions just make it too much of an uphill battle on top of the abysmal start Adkins reign produced.
Need to keep pushing this season with loads of games to go but also look at the bigger picture of next season so we aren't scratching around for squad fillers at the last minute and playing players out of position from day one. Can even start thinking about that in the Jan window.
Stockley back soon and hopefully pearce so not a disaster today by any means. Would also like to see Burstow get some decent runs of time to see what he can do.
Still in a far better place than we were before Jacko took over and hopefully off the field Sandgaard et al have learned from the less than perfect summer recruitment.
Big game tuesday and no reason why we shouldn't win after wins against sunderland, plymouth etc so not worth getting too down about today.
He has jumped straight in to the back of the player with his arm up and completely flattened him. That is as clear a foul as you could wish to see,
The summarisers called it a foul, the players and management could see it was a foul. It was a foul.
Somehow the referee, who bizarrely is not even seen in the video, chose to ignore it.
I'm not prepared to stick up for shit officiating in the 3rd tier of English football. It must be better and officials have to be answerable for their performance.

What counts now is how we react to two games where things went against us. Let's hope we can remain positive, and come out firing in the next match.
The same applies to the players as well.
