Oh believe me, Ipswich fans (and South Folk in general) are "special".Cardinal Sin said:Met a local on the train this morning. He is an Ipswich fan and was 'absolutely delighted' to receive a pair of free tickets for the match tomorrow night. I had to explain that he isn't special.
I couldn't give a stuff about the performance tomorrow night, my only wish is that we beat those in-bred muppets.
If we lose, the prospect of attending work meetings (albeit via video) with the few we let over the border will be unbearable.
Prediction: Charlton 7 Dipswich Down 0 (OK, I can dream ...)2 -
Instinctively I agree with you but no one suggested that the solution to conceding goals from the full back position, specifically the right back, was to not play one.Oggy Red said:
Looks good on paper ..... but not in line with the 'lopsided' 3-5-2 that Jacko favours.Covered_End_Lad said:
Would like to see us move Purrington into the back 3 with Clare and Famewo and then play both Leko and DJ as wing backs.Southbank said:Our defence is our weak link at present. we nearly got found out at the back by a Northern League team on Friday
Playing Elerewe would be risky, but Bonne is not a giant striker so it might work.
If Piggott is up front for them it would be a different matter. I guess JJ has to gamble that our attacking half is so strong we can defend from the front. Otherwise I might be tempted to go for a flat back four with Purrington at left back.
Surely the point is that one wingback is a defender, the other is a winger?
The defender wingback drops back to make a 4th defender backline, as required. That's where Purrington as a wingback earns his salt, as an experienced specialist defender.
Playing wingers like DJ and Leko together, one on each side, could leave us defensively open and vulnerable.
Only a risk worth taking if it's late on and we're chasing the game.0 -

Somebody should say it,, comfortable home win 4-0.1

Purrington must stay as the Left wing back and either DJ or Leko as the right wing back.
Ideally two of the 3 at the back should be natural CB's. Clare Pearce/Deji Famewo.
Clare is so useful as he can be the RCB, RWB or replace Gilbey if he is injured and be the runner in midfield.
Tough game and let's hope Bonne doesn't get inspired when he gets stick from the covered end which is so predictable following the garbage aimed at Holmes and Grant on their first games back at the valley.
Edited Deji for DJ. 🤦🏻♂️5 -
Ayodeji Elerewe is the lads name, but Deji will do nicely as that's what all his team mates call him from his Peer group in the U18 to the first team Squad.
Elerewe= every other letter is an e with left right wing in between.
Happy 34th Birthday Jason Pearce:
498 games in the top 3 tiers of the EFL.
528 games including Conference.
JP is an A licence coach who will join our coaching staff full time next season if JJ gets the gig. Jason like JJ has been a captain where ever he played.

Looking forward to a cold, wet night under lights at The Valley. Should be a great atmosphere again. Hoping that Ipswich don't get the new/no manager bounce. Really hoping that Jason Pearce is back at the heart of the defence, I think that would significantly increase our chances. If Jason is not available then I also think we may see Chris Gunter in the centre. I am surprised that Burstow hasn't been given more opportunity in place of Davison, but it looks like JJ has more faith in Josh than most of us fans do.
My heart says a hard fought victory, but my head says a 1-1 draw - a dubious deflection off some part of Stockley's anatomy!0 -

Not at all because I had not made any preparations! Was out Friday night for work Christmas meal, Saturday all day/night, and all day Sunday so was a rush yesterday to piece it together.ForeverAddickted said:I reckon we'll see Gunter back in the middle in place of Elerewe.
Great Preview though @Sage - Were you forced to rewrite any of it after Paul Cook got sacked?
I honestly dont like the from the Ipswich players towards this sacking - Doesnt sound like they were unhappy under Cook and dont quite agree with it - Wonder if we'll see increased effort from them as a result.
Think we will see an Ipswich side wanting to do well but a bit confused as to what they’re meant to be doing.
Big game tomorrow and really hope that we can get the 3 points.2 -

The best Marcus Bent ever played at The Valley... Shame it wasn't for us.4

Would that have been one of the first games with the Covered End expansion open? I see the NW corner but no angles available of the rest.0

The state of the pitch … Roland’s fault0

By my reckoning there are less than 300 home tickets available now. Would be great to shift these tomorrow.

Commentators often pronounce it Elerwe, missing a syllable.0
