Will we make the playoffs?

  • If, yes it's a big if we win our next 2 games we will probably be about 8th and about 4 points off the play offs.

3 of our next 4 games would then be Exeter, Fleetwood and Forest Green.

I actually think clear midweeks are more relevant than who we are playing.  At full strength I fancy us against most teams in this division, its just it doesn't take many to break down for the wheels to totally fall off.
  • Nah too much to do. But if we win the next 3 I'll start to believe.
  • Do leave it out haven’t read other comments.
No chance what so ever of play offs.
So much is wrong with this club at the moment regardless of the last 3 wins.

What people forget other clubs also have to play ,so many teams above us its not in our hands.
If it was we would still not make it.

send 14th beginning of season and I still stand by that.
  • Frustrating but another mid table finish - although a month ago I’d bite your hand off for that, still think we are under a new manager bounce. 3/4 games time we will know where we are.
  • We would not only need 12-13 wins plus draws but at least 2 currently in the top 6 and 4-5 in the top 10 to go on a very poor run. Barnsley are a candidate for the latter, but overall, I’d say no, regardless of our current upturn in form. If we finish top 8-10 Holden would have done a good job since being appointed.

All that said, in the unlikely event we win the next three on the spin, depriving the Posh and Bolton of 3 point gains, the players will at least feel they are in the mix, so we may get a decent longer run of gut busting efforts. I would take that for now having witnessed so much guff this season.

We are doing better than last season.

I don't know what the 21/22 table looked like after 26 games, but I'm certain we are better now.

Less defeats, less goals conceded,  more points

Edit: ☝️which isn't much to shout about
  • Fewer (Apols for OCD).

We're four points better off this season than we were last season after 26 games. Same amount of wins (8), but four fewer defeats this time around (8 v 12 last year). We've actually conceded more this year (36) than last year so far (32) but scored 8 more (40 v 32). This time last year we were 13 points off sixth (Oxford on 43 points) compared to six this year - although Barnsley still have two games in hand.
So what your saying is there is a chance...

Of finishing in the top half
  • I don't think it is the most likely outcome but certainly one we can't write off at this stage with the number of games remaining. There is little or no margin for error so when/if we get a couple of defeats people can say I told you so. The next two are interesting games against teams above us. Win both of them, which will be tough and more people will believe.

If, and its a big if, we can continue this run against Peterborough and Bolton, then I would say there is a chance of scraping into 6th. For me it depends not just on the above, but who else is added to the squad. If Kane is injured and Sess is out for a period of time we still need an orthodox LB and I think we still need another striker.
However stranger things have happened in football and who knows...20 games to go, 60 points available...12/13 wins 3 or 4 draws, we could conceivably achieve between 39 and 43 points to add to our current 34 points..that would give a total between 73 and 77 points. Would that be enough? Not sure tbh, but it's something to aim for.
  • It is a massive ask to get into the play offs, with the lack of stability in the background not helping.

    But it could be on.

One of the big changes would need to be beating the crap teams holding up the league, beating them well and being in control. We throw so many points away to teams like that.

One of those teams in the top 6 will drop away, one usually does.
  • Think we can only afford to maybe lose 2 more games max and win most not draw many
  • Probably not but maybe.

  • Sign another full back and we could do it. Egbo and sessegnon is a promotion winning combo. Egbo will be back in February and if sess is fit then, we will have another run of wins like October, when they last played together.

Thought Egbo was out for the rest of the season?
  • Well it’s 16/1 which I thought was slightly generous. But I still wouldn’t bet on it as I can’t see it.

To get in the playoffs I think we will need to win another 4 or 5 on the trot, cant see that happening.

Ultimately I think we will probably finish around 12th.
  • No I’m afraid end up 9-11 me think but hope I’m wrong .coyr💪
  • No….6 points behind Barnsley but they have 2 games in hand. A bridge too far I’m afraid.

Both of those are tricky away games though.
  • Unlikely, but it does hinge on the current transfer window. Deano has made a difference and if supported (a big IF based on the previous form of the current regime) during this window we could do it.
