I'm a DJ fan after being sceptical at first. Very good technically, reliably delivers good crosses with both feet and tackles back. Not sure what people are expecting.
I do wish he would cut inside and have a shot now and again but I guess he has been told not to.

Our current system also relies on everything coming down that side , which often ends up with him being double marked.
Kirk was a panic buy & one to appease the frustrated fans. He wasn't going to work in Adkins formation as he likes an overlaping fullback & certainly not in Jacksons where he is asked to do both jobs !!
He will probably come good somewhere as his Crewe form shows he's a decent player at this level. If we had bought him in June & given him a full pre-season to gel with his team mates then it might have worked out. But it seems that fans of many many years standing know jack shit & we should trust a black box, a director of football who's now moved sideways & the owners son.
Did we panic last January when we tried to sign him. I have never worked out where he was going to play in Bowyer's formation, or actually what Bowyer's formation was by then.
Can't argue with that!
I'm surprised we went after Kirk (rather than DJ it seems) when we had Millar as that's surely where Kirk would have played, albeit in a slightly different way.
I think we wanted both, remember there was another winger half way down the m1 as well. Millar played 4 different positions, in 4 different formations in his first 3 halves with us. Doesn't strike me that a lot of these players are signed because the manager wants them.
I said it before and got laughed at but Jackson has gone from potentially not getting the job twice to being the most powerful manager in a decade. Good luck to him, its the way it should be.
From what I recall we made a bid in the morning for Kirk , but then some agent shenanigans blocked that , then had Josh Morris ready to sign but then got DJ last minute and didn't sign Morris
It’s a shame for us that nobody wants DJ too as in my opinion he’s a far worse player than Kirk. No end product, hides in games and is usually knackered after 70mins.
To quote Golfie he really was a panic signing.
DJ is bang average, but on Kirk’s performances so far, he could only dream of being that.

Kirk might be a better player but at least DJ has had some good games for us.

We tried to buy him for four transfer windows and under two managers. How is that a panic signing. That is the opposite of a panic signing.
Please back that up because you've been corrected on it before.
Ok, let me explain.
I called it a panic buy as you (and a few others) have said we tried to buy him during previous transfer windows, so he must have been one of our top targets in the summer.....yes ?
So did we push the boat out & offer the £500k release fee in June ? I would say not. It seems to me that we ditherred & delayed and bought him after the season had started - not what I would expect for a player that we really really wanted.
Maybe not a panic buy perhaps.....but not a purchase that says "here's a marquee signing - we been after him for 2 years"
So let me get this straight. A player who has been an utter flop at a struggling league 1 side (for that is what we are folks) suddenly becomes a target for a (doing quite well) championship side. How does that work then? Funny old game Brian!

Maybe it’s a Blackpool thing, remember them signing Luke Varney on loan for their season in the Prem.

I suspect it has everything to do with Kirk wanting to move back home, us wanting to free up space and recoupe some of the £500k, and the Blackpool manager knowing Charlie. Would be a good move for all.
Kirk clearly has something about him as his stats show.
Bar Crewe at home he's shown next to nothing of that with us.
He's young, he's moved away from home, he joined late, his dad just died, the team wasn't performing as a whole and the new manager doesn't fancy him, it seems, in the new formation we're now playing.
So far he's been a flop.
That might change with time but we might be the wrong club in the wrong area playing the wrong style.
Wouldn't be at all surprised if he did well at a club nearer home but that won't mean, as some will complain, that we should have kept him.
The squad size rules mean every player has to fit in and work out and so far, Charlie hasn't done that.

I really rate DJ and not sure that assessment is totally fair.
He’s being asked to adapt to a more defensive role than he’s ever been used to and IMO done it quite well. He is well disciplined, he gets up and down the line constantly and doesn’t shirk the 50/50s (he wins more than his fair share of contested headers and upper body duels).
In fact, it’d almost be surprising if he wasn’t one of the most knackered players every week.
True that he been played in a new position possibly fair to say he’s done better there than his more advanced normal role.
For me though he has one trick (step over) his crossing is appalling and as I say he can’t play a full 90 mins whereas Purrington does it week in week out - surely it’s a basic requirement. Especially if you paid £400k for him.
Remember back to Oxford away. One of the worst performances I’ve ever seen.
Sell them both a get the FGR right wing back is. Get specialists for specific roles

Exactly. We wouldn't be the first team to let a player move on who then turns out to be success elsewhere. Chelsea have done it with players who ended up being some of the very best in the world.
Lavanier is an attacking right back, if Jacko is fed up with either playing wingers or Matthews as right wing back, maybe that could be an option
I'd rather he just tried Clare there or changed the formation since both right and left wing backs are integral to it and we have no one in the squad capable of playing the role he wants well. Need a Maatsen type player on both sides ideally and I'd say the left is in more need of cover.
I thought we looked better when JJ started his reign by using one attacking wing back, and one more defensively minded one. DJ and Purrington wasn’t it? We looked much more solid defensively back then.
To be fair,I dont think the defence is a problem ,we have let 4 goals in recently,One against Norwich created by a top class player, the other 3 where all goalkeeping errors.
The stats are correct, but other teams have looked like scoring more often than they did in JJ’s early days. Cheltenham could easily have scored four on Saturday.
I mean even as bad as we were, with a bit more composure Aneke's cross bar shot goes in and his looping volley too, oh and their keeper made a good save at one point. 4-4 Same result in terms of point share.
Think you’re clutching at straws there Dazz. The crossbar shot was something out of nothing, and their chances were much easier than ours. Goalkeepers are there to make good saves, and it certainly wasn’t a worldie. They created much better chances than we did, and we stole a point.

Ricky Holmes too despite how he left.
Kirk may well revive his career elsewhere. Living in London isn't for everyone.
