Good day for the Porter family connections on here and for Kent fans too - Jamie returned figures of 10-2-31-5 against NZ yesterday and Ben Compton currently sits on 56 (145) out of a score of 112-1 and has outscored his opening partner, Sibley, in both innings.
The First Class Counties side require another 152 runs to win the game and Compton currently has 973 runs to his name, more than any other player in the country, so he could reach the 1,000 mark today and before the end of May - an incredible achievement considering, at the age of 28, this is the first time he has been given a proper opportunity as a pro.
I heard this game is not being counted as a first class match as NZ are using, more than 11 players, sad for Compton if it's true.
It's a good idea to have a decent side for the Kiwis to warm up against, players who've played for England previously (like Sibley) or who have realistic aspirations of a call up
It's not good for the survival of Test cricket to have touring sides completely underprepared for the 1st Test

I think you might be right there. But try telling a Kent supporter that he didn't reach, if he does, 1,000 runs by the end of May!

The way Compton is playing, he looks a better bet for England, than Crawley on current form
20,000 tickets still available over the 5 days apparently.
The tickets are over priced. They keep putting the prices up, but there's a limit when you consider a) In June, so not peak summer b) Everyone likes the Kiwis, but it's not the Ashes in terms of public interest (or an Asian opponent who'll attract big support from their followers) c) England are rubbish at the moment
I did pay for the tickets on Thursday and thought that it was farcically expensive. You could get a half Millwall season ticket for the same price and about 2 games at the Valley in the east stand
With just three players under the age of 29, the average age of our side is 30 and the New Zealand's is likely to be even older. Test cricket isn't a young man's game is it.

Understand what you're saying but, as McCullum himself has said, in England's current predicament, it's about winning test matches
Went to the O2 yesterday to see Alan Partridge. Nipped for a quick leak and stood next to Jimmy Anderson at the urinals. Never experienced stage fright like it

The younger bowlers are all injured, while the younger batsmen have struggled to score enough runs...
Lets face it neither Pope nor Crawley exactly justify their places on recent England form either.
Strange picking Bairstow as he hasnt played any red ball cricket. What was the point of picking Brook? I would of played him ahead of Bairstow.Happy for Matty Potts. We've hopefully got a good one there. Will learn a lot from Broad and Anderson Also dont understand why Leach is playing.Root is a capable spinner and we could of picked Craig Overton instead incase Stokes breaks down. Its been a while so im happy to see test match cricket back.

When you saw him did you go "AHA"?
I did request he smelt my cheese, but it fell on deaf ears

We're going Friday.
As not even the current England team could lose within 2 days, (weather permitting) we both should be ok for some play

c) England are rubbish at the moment
I'll possibly go to see us wrap the match up
At £100+ a ticket, I'm not surprised
I can't recall England doing it too often
