Thing is. Would you select him over any of our other choices ? For me not. That puts him so far down the order as to almost ensure that at his age he has to move to further his career. Jones hasn’t included him in anything so obviously doesn’t see a future for him and if it’s a case of a swap between him and Potts then it’s a no brainer. Certainly as far as Jones is concerned.
Thought he was excellent when he first came in, wouldn't make the current side but I think he'll end up a decent L1 centre back with regular playing time
Whilst I think this is the correct decision, it would not surprise me if he plays at a higher level in the future.
50/50 but wouldn't surprise me IF he can be 100% fit and he can find the strong mentality to go with his latent ability. Lucas Ness is 23 next Feb so needs to be a 1st team regular to kick on in his career. Professional football is a tough business for most outside of the elitist Premier division where you get paid millions to not even be in the squad: EG. Sterling and Chilwell.
Ness didn't come to CAFC until he was 18 and he was at Metropolitan Police fc for 7 years including his academy years.
I wish Ness well at Notts County and hope Lucas can emulate his early appearances for CAFC and not his later ones when his confidence dipped.
It’s a shame it didn’t work out but I don’t think he’s young enough to have had the dip he had and not move on. He did quite well under Holden but he never looked like a Konsa or a Gomez or even a Fox, and then the total collapse when things didn’t start well was quite alarming. He had a good pass in his locker and there is some potential there but he was never going to have that aggressive front-footed style Jones wanted. Good luck to him
Showed a lot of potential 2 years ago, injuries and managerial changes probably haven’t helped him and I think this is a good move for all parties. Hopefully he can now get some regular football and get back on that path he was on

No I wouldn’t at the moment. But we probably know better than any other fans that fitness and form is often a fleeting thing at this level.
I think we were hopeful we would get a small fee for him when he signed his deal end of last season (or hopeful he would turn it down and we get a dev fee) but i suspect we let him go for free with a sell on clause at this stage. Injury probably didnt help on that front.
He was decent enough. If you look at Lloyd Jones start to the season when he was previously written off, both Ness and Jones were better defenders than we gave them credit for, they were probably hampered by the dross that shared the team sheet with them. Good move for both player and club, with a sell on clause written in. Taylor and Fraser next ?
I rated him when he first came into the team but then seemed to go backwards after injuries.....good move for him and I do think he will play at a higher level one day........
Not a dig at Ness, but that is such a cliched phrase when describing signings.
Played really well a couple of times, was highly regarded but our defence is so much stronger now, he's simply not ready for a League 1 promotion side IMO.
I thought he was a good defender with further potential. Shame he has gone but as others have said he would be quite low in the pecking order. At least signing for County he will get regular football (as all footballers want) and he will show other clubs whether he is good enough for a higher division. Best of luck.

My point is that it's such a cliché. Logically all players would be "highly regarded" at some point and by someone, or else they would never get a contract anywhere.
I think he is a good player and underrated in the last game he played when we drew at The Valley against Derby 0-0 he was back to his best and he never got another game !

Best of luck Lucas.
Think it’s the right move for all parties.

Good luck to him. hope it works out.
Great memories of that evening up at Old Trafford. One highly impressive sliding tackle that got a massive round of applause from the 60k+ crowd.
Good luck for the future Lucas (except against Charlton).
