All the best to Lucas, has something about him, think he could end up in the Championship, just needs regular game time. Hope it works out for him at Notts County.
This always felt like the logical conclusion. I think he has L1 quality at times, but hardly playing last season plus missing the last couple months of the previous season seemed to take its toll on him. He hasn't played a lot of senior football for a 22 year old.
Quick and decent on the ball. Still needs work in the air and on reading the game on the front foot--he looked poor at both last season. That means he doesn't really fit a Jones team. But, expect to see him in League One again at some point.
Nice comments from Jones there. Thought he looked decent when he first got in the side, but has struggled with change of managers, form and injuries. Notts County handing out a long contract there, so they clearly fancy him. I really hope it works out for him as he always gave his all and definitely has some quality. Probably just needs the right manager and some game time to get back in his rhythm. Good luck to him.
For a youngster looking to develop his career, Charlton can't have been an easy place to be for the last few years what with the revolving door of managers and coaches, squad changes and backroom upheaval...... and then he has had his injuries to contend with. Good luck to him and in a way I hope he develops into a better than average EFL player and comes back to haunt us one day........... sort of
I like him, think he will come back to this level possibly even higher. all that said i think he was a victim of his own early success where so little was expected from him when we brought him back off loan and he did well, it raised expectations of him. Also didnt that at a time where he should eb playing with experienced pros at CB to help him learn he got Hector and Inniss alongside him who whilst experienced were error prone and two of the worst performing CBs to play regularly for us ever.
I always thought Z Mitchell had a higher ceiling - taller, quicker , better on the ball, more aggressive. NJ clearly agreed. Good luck , Lucas .
Sorry, but that’s revisionism. At the time Ness was doing really well (check players marks threads) before his injury, before NJ, that wasn’t the case at all. Zach has improved massively recently, but wasn’t as good as Ness early on, which was why it was Ness playing at Old Trafford, not Zach. Right now I’d much rather have Zach, but that’s a different thing.

Great lad and had a good run in the team during one of our worst ever spells as a football club but always felt a bit like the CB version of Albie Morgan to me.
I wish him well but I doubt he ever plays above League One level on a consistent basis.
It’s time to pass the “promising young CB to keep around the squad” baton to the player who’s three years younger than Lucas.

I think you haven't understood. When he said Zach had a higher ceiling that means to me that he shows the greater potential in the medium to long term. I think most of us thought that.

Fair enough @Covered End , I guess it’s just the word ‘always’ that I was quibbling with.
From what I’ve seen this season I’d definitely agree, but when Ness had his purple patch, (inc Man U game) I’m not sure we’d have all been thinking ‘but Zach has a higher ceiling, faster, taller’ etc because for one thing he was three years younger than Ness, as someone mentioned. He looked promising though, of course, but so did Ness.
But if one of the back three is injured I won’t be worried if Zach fills in. As you say, he’s got all the attributes and will go far. 👍

Cant fault his effort whenever I saw him play.
Good luck and I sincerely hope you end up playing at a much higher grade.
