@DPFC, @HardyAddick and @Redmidland. You know you have the support of the CL family (with all our faults) whilst you’re going through this battle, and beyond. Please stay strong!!
Hi all a brief update. I had my MRI this morning, but was also contacted twice yesterday, I have a pre-op assessment on Friday, then I'm in hospital for my 'stoma' operation next Thursday 6th July. I will then be in hospital for 5 days as I adjust to my new, hopefully temporary, way of life. Cancer treatment starts when I'm out of hospital. Tbh, I'm petrified of having the operation, I've never had one in 68 years of being on this earth! I can only hope and pray I survive the op, after that I'll take each day as it comes.
I’d be the same RM. Never had surgery, only ever taken a day bed for a lumber puncture & my ears pinned back & only ever had one stitch 😳 I’ll light a candle for you, it’s what us Irish do 😘😘😘😘
It's easy RM, they give you an anasthetic you fall asleep and then wake up and it is all done, I have had a few including an 8 hour one on my lumbar area. I wish you all the best, not good luck as you won't need it.
Good luck RM and KB. Operations are easy. Had a few. You just lay on the bed and they are talking to you about holidays, cars or football etc and the next thing you remember is being asked to wake up in recovery. I never worry and never had a problem.
@Redmidland, I’d avoided major surgery for 56 years until I had four in a couple of weeks. I was terrified but the consolation I can give you is that anaesthetic really works! Lie back and think of Charlton. Actually, best to think of something that gives you pleasure. All the best.
Oh bloody hell, so many lifers getting the shitty end of the stick at the moment. (Pun not initially intended, but I'm leaving it in ) @Redmidland, @DPFC and @HardyAddick, I hope your various treatment regimens prove to be effective and not too gruelling.
Just a brief update, having been given my news of bowel cancer on Monday, I've been back for MRI on Wednesday and 4 hours on outpatients yesterday for various tests, ECG, blood pressure both sitting and standing, MRSA, height, weight, meeting with anesthetist, surgery nurse and stoma nurse. The tumour is in the lower part of the large bowel. The stoma fitted next Thursday, 5 days in hospital, 2 weeks at home, unable to drive, then within the next 3 weeks after that and providing stoma is OK, 5 weeks of radiotherapy and chemo. I was hoping to get to the 1st game of the season, but don't think I'll make that, however its my aim even its midway through my treatment. Fingers crossed 🤞 Live, Love, Laugh and be Happy xx Cheers Malc
Good luck @Redmidland. It looks like an ordeal but it is a plan and that’s a good thing. You will get through it with a determination, fortitude and a bucketload of goodwill from us all.
I have an update for you, my friends. 8 years ago, with your help I fought off Heart Failure. Today I was told I have bowel cancer. Medication starts tomorrow, followed by an operation and radiotherapy with chemo every weekday for 5 week solid. Am I scared, yes, will I fight...hell yes.....will I win.....too fucking right! another battle starts for me today. I'm determined not to lose.
Only just catching up as we've been away. So sorry to hear the news. However wish you all the best and what can be done these days is incredible compared even to 20 years ago. I tell you from experience and hope you find comfort from those of us who are coming out of things like this succesfully.

Good luck RM. My tumour is in the upper bowel so no stoma apparently. Don’t know yet if there will be chemo etc.
