Lockyer and Sarr both out of contract. Would both be brilliant signings for this level. I reckon both will get a championship deal but maybe Naby and JJ relationship could work in our favour as we really need a couple of left sided centre backs that are comfortable on the ball as Purrington/Famewo don’t quite cut it
But both not good enough for the championship. TS has said we are building for the long term, bringing back bang average players to the club won't help.
Lockyer has played 24 games this season for a team in the play offs 😂 he’d be our best defender by far. Naby hasn’t played much this season (13 games) as Huddersfield are also in the play offs and no longer playing a back 3 which he suits  but did play 41 games last season in the championship. Both are lower championship level players who are massively better than what we have now and what we will probably sign this summer.

Crazy that you would say no to them, especially Lockyer, and Naby was brilliant last time he was in league 1 for us and did pretty well when we played a back 3 in the championship. Luton and Huddersfield have 2 of the better recruitment teams in the country and they clearly disagree with you on how they did for us. They are not bang average at all, they would be 2 of the better defenders in league 1, we are bang average not them.

Left footed centre backs is what we need most this summer as we have none and it is one of the hardest positions to find a good player in as there are few around, they are expensive. Guarantee we won’t sign one better than Naby
Not sure this is a totally unbiased opinion :-)

Phew 😥, with all these low expectations we should have a really positive site when the season starts.
We’re only 4 weeks away from the first concerned post that we’re moving too slowly as Pompey or someone have made one of their loans permanent.

Like Henry mentioned the other day, Naby's howler at the Den destroyed my faith in him. Anyway, we'll be looking at Div 2 players ready for a step up and a Div 1 salary. Naby Sarr will probably cost way too much. Tucker looks okay but I think he will go on upwards to the Championship. If we sign Lee or Leko I think I'll shoot myself.

God forbid anyone screw up against Millwall (while being fouled). Hey did you know Purrington scored in the playoff final? Give him a new contract!

Naby was under a lot of pressure when he came off the bench tonight, as he knew that any mistakes and he would be slaughtered on this thread  ;)
  • Loved that goal but Nabby just a lot more expensive!

Lockyer and Sarr both play for clubs in the championship play-offs yet apparently they aren't good enough for the championship, or even worse, they'd actually even consider dropping down to league one because Jackson knows them 😂😂😂

No to Sarr. Wasn't good enough the first time around and still isn't. I would rather us sign younger players on the way up with a point to prove from league 1 and 2.

That statement should be pinned on the dressing room wall.
In the last minute of a tense derby against them, you do whatever is required to see the game out.
You are defending a corner and up against an opponent that literally has one trick in his locker.
You time your jump to win the header or you use your nous and savvy to put off your opponent, put him off balance, make it impossible for him to get a clean header. In short you compete. You defend.
You do not abscond, abstain, enter stasis, become comatose, surrender, melt, obtain pussyhood or whatever the fcuk he thought he was doing.

Mendes-Gomes? Might have been a target last summer and has only played 9 times for Luton this season. Don't believe that was through injury...

Good shout but isn’t he a winger? Could continue our trend of loaning a Luton once a year though.

    And he certainly wasn't fouled.

If he'd bothered to jump he might have been fouled but he just stood there

Sorba Thomas looks like he would have been an upgrade on Millar.

Once again, he's not a wing back so probably would have been misused here.

I thought he was a CM but only ever saw him in the playoff final so don't know much about him.

He's played wing back and other positions for Udds this season. We aren't the only team that uses wingers there...

Fair one. Looked to play further forward yesterday so must have played in a variety of positions this season.

I have an Udds mate and he said he has been fantastic this season, when they signed him it was me who told him how good he was.

Foolish to not stump up that extra cash, saying that I an confident he would have been sold already.

    Both goals
  • First thing we need to concentrate on is buy two specialist wing-backs, we have spent 90% of the year playing a formation that requires two very niche roles, something we don't really have in the squad (CBT has done well in an attacking sense but has had injury issues and is a question mark defensively).

Personally I would bin the formation but Jacko seems set on it. We need round pegs in round holes if we are to persist with it.

I think still stems back to the summer.  If we had got a really good league one left back (someone like Maatsen, Dasilva or Wiggins) it wouldn't be so much of a problem.  We have got about 5 or 6 viable candidates for the wing back role and only 1 of them is left footed and only 1 or 2 of them are quick.

That doesnt include JFC and I would like to see him have a game or two there before the season is out.

I feel like following that statement with a picture of what I assume is meant to be your hand was a bold choice

It's like when you go on a training course, you come home and use that course training rigidly, often at your detriment as it doesn't always work in the real world.

I think that is a big misunderstanding of what Thomas’ stated aims are. I highly doubt he bought this football club to tread water in the third tier.

To break even in football, you’re going to have to recruit well to then profit on two/three/four years later and/or have a strong academy system that churns out saleable assets.

Thomas knows that he will need to spend in order to see any chance at a long term return. If he thinks he can break even by continually finishing 15th in the third tier then the football pyramid is going slowly bleed him dry until he has to sell to the next maniac.

Is Freddie Ladapo a realistic target? I know he was angling for a move to the Championship in January but his form has taken a real nose dive since it all fell through.

The last two or three months may have put off clubs from above taking the chance? No doubt Rotherham will be willing to listen to offers for an unhappy player.

Think he would pair really well with Stockley or Aneke. South London boy as well so might welcome a move closer to home. Just don’t mention where he started his career.

    11 from 29 this season,
9 from 42 in the Championship in 20/21
14 from 31 in League One in 19/20
18 from 45 in League One in 18/19

    Colchester according to Wiki?...

Is he related to Tolu Lapado in our u18s? I thought someone said they were brothers but might be wrong. Surprisingly a lot of articles out there on him.

Must do better research! I knew he had a link to the Surrey stripeys. I assumed it was their academy but actually is from 2016 when they bought him from Margate.

Having said all that, I am fairly certain that he and Tolu are related…
