So was he 8th, 9th or 10th choice..........

What a joke....... sacked Jackson for this........ I really give up. All will have been done on a spreadsheet, just like RD he'll never learn, too pig/big headed.
Is this a question or a statement? Was he 8th choice or numbe 1 target?
I'm pretty sure no club has ever said 'Ben Garner is the man we must get' so i highly doubt he was first choice.

Equally i'd be very surprised if he was low as 8th or 9th.

My best guess is that he's probably around 4th or 5th choice. Warburton probably said no as he will hope to get a championship job, Beale probably wants to stay at Villa a bit longer, Taylor maybe isn't so sure about leaving Exeter, so then we're into a group of whoever else, of which Garner is clearly one.

Yeah....no point in journalism anymore. Just do it all by SM.

Good luck to him if he's appointment. I'll back the team, can't not.

What's annoyed me though, again, is TS grandstanding comments. Last season's We're going walk the league, that worked well.

Now its one about our ambition of the  managers we are trying to appoint,  saying we're aiming higher than Beale, who's the hottest property of the english coaching world right now, and he pulls Ben Garner out the bag.

Smacks of the kid at school who's dad, uncles and cousins done everything better than the story you just told, except he's an orphan.

He needs to shut the f up, and just get on with it.
Oh and appoint a CEO who's got a feckin clue how a football club is run.
He’d be a very creditable and well respected appointment in football. TS has just appointed a COO and he hasn’t made any of those kinds of comments in nearly a year.

That walking the league has definitely come back to haunt him I’ll give you.

I just don’t get the hatred and vitriol towards him. He’s a decent bloke who’s doing everything the right way. He’s said he really wants to use the academy and have a young energetic team which totally fits how Swindon progressed last season.
Oh for gods sake I can’t deal with this anymore. Someone pull the emergency stop and let me get off and cry in the fucking corner.

Garner cites Lennie Lawrence as a mentor. He wasn’t too bad for us was he?

  • 433 with two of the 3 in midfield being attack minded by the looks of things, hopefully he’s the manager who can get the most out of Fraser.

On the positive side that's impressive.

On a negative side despite all that possession and shots, their defence was awful as they finished 6th and conceded more than any side in the top 10.
Clearly TS thinks that being entertained is more important than promotion.  I think all of us would disagree .
I think your both write and wrong mate. Ofcourse promotion is important more so to TS than most of us as it lowers his losses if we get promoted. However entertainment is also very important surely ? I know we are all different but if you asked me would I spend my cash next season watching the same turgid crap we saw last season if it got us promoted then the answer is no definitely not. Ofcourse I would be pleased we got promoted but I would be buying tickets to watch it
We need to get out of the league .  Being entertained would be ideal , but Chris Powell’s team didn’t exactly play champagne football but they got the job done .  That would do me.

Rob7Lee is a very knowledgeable man, so I'm surprised at the extreme negativity. Has TS upset you Rob?

Would much rather have Garner than an owner who messages club business over LinkedIn private message
Showing respect to supporters by communicating with them. Bring back Roland!
Not the same thing at all. Surely you can see that

  • I personally think it is a good appointment. If he can replicate what he did last year with Swindon we are in for a good season. Lets be honest even if Beale, Warburton, Taylor etc have been interviewed there is no evidence to suggest they were interested in taking the job.

We are a bang average mid table team in League 1 so the chances of us attracting the likes of Beale etc were very slim anyway.

Welcome Ben, you have a lot more at your disposal than you had at this stage last season with Swindon so use it well and get us playing some exciting football
There also seems to be an assumption that we interviewed them and they turned us down. It is possible that Garner was the best candidate.

If he’s the new man then we need to get behind him and see what transpires. Welcome Ben.
Poor bastard. I feel sorry for him.
    Him or me ?
  • If he is so good why did nobody mention  him on a wish list until last night?
He was mentioned couple of weeks ago when he was interviewed
  • Seems to be a few new bods on this thread that I've never seen or heard of before telling us what a great appointment this Garner will be.

    Hmmmm
Do you mean me? Is so, no idea if he'll be great or not, but I wish him and his team of backroom staff well. It's been a long time since we could say that. I think Adkins needed his!

    Yes, he sacked Jackson
  • Now that's why we kept Davison.

We re-signed Davison because we knew he would miss a penalty and so Swindon wouldn't get promoted thereby meaning Garner would be open to coming to Charlton, and would clearly want to play the same player he used in the league below? Seems legit and not a stretch at all

  • Jason Euell will be fine he’ll be our manager by Christmas

If he thinks Davison is good enough for League One, we are fucked.
    He hasn't said that.

Question, he certainly wasn't number one choice as he wasn't the first manager to be spoken to. But whether TS spoke to 3/5/10 or 100 I don't know.

But the same mistakes are being made time and time again, players bought on stats, now managers.

But despite Swindon being number 1 in almost every stat last season, they weren't top in the one that matters - promotion.......So a manager fail to get one off the best squads in league two out of the division, so we'll give him a go at getting us out of league one with in a relative terms arguably a worse squad...... Swindon only just made the playoffs by a point.
    How do you know that?
He had 7 players in July and I believe half of the squad made their pro debuts last season. (Think I read that here?)
