The first game I’ve properly sat down and watched (I saw the last 20 mins and extra time of the Spain game). I enjoyed it and was impressed by the quality of some of the play. The Swedish goalkeeper had a bad day but listening to the post match comments it is probably one tournament too far for her. I thought the analysis from Wrighty, Alex Scott and the Swedish chap whose name escapes me was insightful and balanced. The only blot was the gutteral screaming of the awful Robyn Cowan in the commentary box. I bet she’ll get a more prominent role on MOTD next season so I’ll be reaching for the volume control. But that’s a detail. On the whole the tournament seems to have a feel good factor about it and the coverage across the media has been proportionate. I’ve not felt this tournament to have been rammed down my throat like the last World Cup was. Looking forward to the second semi and the final now.
I thought Lucy Bronze looks like John Terry when I was looking though the squad for "talent". Also, in the handful of games I've seen her play for England she hasn't been very good.
Great game though, looking forward to Sunday!
Can anyone tell me why White is ahead of Russo? Form doesn't justify it.
That Russo goal was the first time I’ve leapt in the air since the winning goal in the play off final!
really ?!?!?!
My first thought was, he obviously doesn't own a cat that drops live mice in the living room. Then I remembered all the games between the 2019 final including the mens team getting to a euro final 🤔
Incidentally our record since she took over is now:
P18 W16 D2 F100 A4.
Incredible.
We now have a +100 goal difference since Wiegman took over. In just 19 games!
and who says they need smaller goals....
I found the 20-0 win embarrassing against Latvia because they were so poor (they were the standard of a village side) and not how professional and ruthless England were. Qualifying game from memory ?
Other than the Norway game when England were brilliant and had oceans of space to show their skills, and were 5-0 up at HT our first half performances have been a slower tempo and it's only when the 3 younger lionesses come on in Russo, Toone and Kelly do we hit top gear and run riot against tiring defences.
Millie Bright got her indifferent game out the way against NI when Sarina Wiegman took her off at HT. Millie looks so much more consistent alongside Williamson than she did with Hughton who was an excellent player but didn't run with the ball out of defense as well as the present England captain.
Lucy Bronze's defending was really poor last night yet she had the assist for Mead's goal with a good cross and she did the powerful header. Ironic that it was the right side of our defense that Sweden saw as a weakness as they knew the space would be there to be attacked.
Walsh is my favourite as her passing is immaculate and despite being one paced and marked finds a way to influence the game.

So far England have only been punished once for their slower starts, against Spain. So far having the subs come on, to terrorise tiring defences has worked, but I still have a sneaky suspicion that it's because we're starting with the wrong team.
It's too late to change it now though, when you've started with the same 11 right through a tournament, it would be too disruptive to team spirit to suddenly change things.
Watched the game yesterday with 11 year old daughter, and now really looking forward to the final! She plays football at school (both daughters do) and also watched the men's Euro final. Personally think the tide has turned in terms of what is a "boys" or "girls" game, though total parity between the two will I suspect never happen, the women's game will only get bigger

It's catch 22 now for Sarina Wiegman. After checking out what she did with the Netherlands after our first nervy game against Austria I realized that she liked to go with the same team in tournaments. With the Dutch team she only changed the starting 11 when injuries occured. This has come to fruition with the same 11 to start in every match. In the Quarter final against Spain I would have started Russo for White and Greenwood for Daley, I said this before the game after watching Spain v Germany match at Brentford. TBF the super subs worked but again only a great save from Earp's and a goal line clearance from Bright stopped us going two down to Spain.
Wiegman is a successful manager in the Euro's but we should've been 2-0 down with the chance after 20 seconds and the header which hit the crossbar. It's a risk as Ellen White works her socks off but Russo looks sharper and has magic feet and could get at both the German or French defence.
Sarina Wiegman has taken the England job at the right time as she has the young crop come through but she is a winner and I trust yet again she will have the ability to think on her feet before and during the game.
She has big calls to make but same again will probably be her choice and her record is too be respected.

I'd argue that now is the time to change it. Whoever we face in the final can only prepare to face the eleven that's started every game, any changes will almost certainly catch them at least a little unprepared.

That is the big risk that France and Germany will know our starting line up and can prepare well in advance.
You can't make those slow starts against a France or Germany. Germany punished Austria's defensive errors with goals so we need to be super sharp defensively if we get them in the final, don't gift anything to them.

Can anyone tell me why White is ahead of Russo? Form doesn't justify it.
Simple answer, the manager picks the team, not us armchair pundits. I imagine her thoughts are something along the lines of don't change a winning team and, more importantly, Russo is effective running at and around a tiring defence that's had to deal with White for an hour.
Anyone who thinks they can do a better job than the incumbent is welcome to write to the FA and apply.

Lucy Bronze has been quite hit and miss this tournament although when she raises it a gear clear to see why she is one of the best.
For me it's part of the game plan for White to occupy and tire the opposition's defense and she brings others into play second half where the game is stretched to exploit tired legs Russo is perfect as her movement is quick and she has that killer instinct.
Much like Aneke she is not just a sub but a game changer for those 30 mins she keeps the intensity high.

Martina Voss-Ticklenburg, the German manger is the Doppelganger of Jürgen Klinsmann.

Do you think Phil Neville would have had the same results since she came in ? Genuine question

Our first goal was much better - the back heel had huge element of luck
The English team come across like a genuinely likeable team, guess it helps that they aren't all millionaires and are grounded in reality
Leah Williamson is a great leader and excellent role model. It'll do wonders for future generations
The German for team is die Mannschaft regardless of the sex of the players. The women's team is not die Frauschaft.
