We played / performed so much better v higher ranked Croatia.

My worry is that Tuchel’s relentless focus on teamwork detracts from any opportunity for individual brilliance. It certainly seemed that way today.

Much better from Ronaldo yesterday. Very nearly got his hat trick 3 or 4 times. At 41 his hunger to be involved is unreal. Just needs to look to make assists a bit more.

Thank god the Ronaldo wankfest can end until the next game now!!
I think every tournament if he keeps playing the Saudi leagues will take a while to get into form. He really should have gone to the U.S where football is improving at a much faster rate.

Why have the beeb made the pundits wear suit jackets for this game?
it's absolutely painful watching the BBC in this WC - Giroud has a better grasp of the English Language than Rooney!

I wonder if the Beeb or ITV will start doing a "route to the final" table now that the group stage is coming to an end.

A nice graphic showing the different permutations would be much better than ex-players mumbling & bumbling post match.

As it stands Scotland will face Mexico and we have Cape Verde and we would meet who wins out of that Mexico Scotland game.

As it stands, the likely round of 32:

    Germany v Paraguay
    France v Sweden
    South Korea v Switzerland
    Morocco v Netherlands

    Croatia v Portugal
    Spain v Austria
    USA v Bosnia
    Belgium v Czechia

    Brazil v Japan
    Ivory Coast v Norway
    Mexico v Scotland
    England v DR Congo

    Argentina v Uruguay
    Australia v Egypt
    Canada v Algeria
    Colombia v Ghana
Now everyone has played twice, and running thousands of simulations based on Betfair Exchange odds for the final group games, here are the most likely R32 fixtures:

    Germany v Paraguay (46.5% likely)
    France v Sweden (50.2%)
    South Korea v Switzerland (49.9%)
    Netherlands v Morocco (53.5%)

    Colombia v Croatia (23.2%)
    Spain v Austria (61.3%)
    USA v Bosnia (69.3%)
    Egypt v Czechia (13.4%)

    Brazil v Japan (39.7%)
    Ivory Coast v Norway (78.1%)
    Mexico v Scotland (49.8%)
    England v DR Congo (44.6%)

    Argentina v Cape Verde (55.0%)
    Australia v Belgium (36.5%)
    Canada v Algeria (17.3%)
    Portugal v Ghana (27.7%)

Teams in bold are confirmed in position as group winners.

I do quite like our side of the draw - especially until the semis.

Brazil - I think we are very capable of beating.
Norway - Haaland worries me, but their back line is weak.
Mexico - Azteca etc. aside, they haven’t looked very convincing and have no superstars.
DR Congo - Would cause us issues in a Ghana style block.

Spain are the team with the best draw currently, but the USA matchup could be tasty.

Having 8 3rd placed teams going through makes it really unfair on the teams playing their final games earlier on.

A team playing on Saturday will know exactly what result they need to through as one of the top 8 3rd placed teams, whereas Scotland tonight have no idea whether they need a draw, or whether a 1-0 defeat would be good enough.

I've got meetings now otherwise I'd go for Canada v Switzerland. I think that could be an interesting, maybe cagey, maybe chaotic game.

Very early second half goal for Switzerland.  Hopefully the game will liven up now.
