Sitting back isn’t the way to beat this France side. Too much quality and they’ll always nick one.

Have to go at that back 4 and rattle them.
And take some shots at that dodgy keeper.

Why did the penalty take ages after the awarding?

Morocco have not turned up thus far
They are not a bad team but playing against the best team in the world.
As a football fan it will be a travesty of justice if France do not win the World Cup.

21 out of 60 penalties missed at the World Cup.
    Stop the bloody stuttering run~ups.
They have not learnt from Arsenal in the Champions League final.

A defence that includes Lucas Digne and William Saliba can't be that good, so definitely vulnerable.
What? Saliba is one of the best centre backs in the world. I would happily have him in the England defence.

I agree France can be vulnerable though. In the past year they lost to Croatia, drew 2-2 with Iceland and Spain put 5 past them in the Nations league.

    What an awful game

Morocco looked like they didn’t want to be there
They played like they felt guilty to be playing against their home country. No fight whatsoever.

Not seen if it’s been mentioned on here, just heard on the radio that Declan Rice is training alone as he has a sickness bug 🙈. Fingers crossed it does not spread

Supposedly they’ve isolated the bug but Guehi is a doubt with a hamstring issue

Not sure if it’s a Guehi game anyway…. Think Haaland would bully him.

As I've said before, he'll bully any of CB's so you have to stop the ball getting near him. You'd think if any of our defenders had an idea of how to stop him it might be one who trains with him every day though

Give the ball to Odegaard he seems to fanny about too long on the ball.

Does he even need to train? He's played 68 games this season and well as the sickness he's also been carrying an injury all tournament.

Forget training alone, i'd have let him sleep all week and just woken him up for the flight to Miami.

Rice has been my favourite player this tournament.
Such awareness in defence, great drives forward, solid tackles all over the pitch. He seems a very positive team player on and off the pitch..
Oh and my Uncle Ben agrees with me

Gabriel still hasn’t worked out how to play Haaland at all. Late to react and bullied by Haaland on that first Norway goal.

Agreed. The 90mins of Colombia Switzerland and Spain Portugal spring to mind

CIV have some good players, enjoying watching them.
Why is everyone, including on TV, now referring to them as Côte d’Ivoire rather than Ivory Coast, and yet at the same time in the same match, still saying Germany?

Best answer I’ve seen to this question that seems to bother so many people for some reason is this one from @rina on the “General things that annoy you” thread:

    rina said:
    buckshee said:
The new obsession with calling countries in the World Cup by the names they use themselves like Core D’Ivoire or Czechia yet still saying Germany.
Côte d'Ivoire, Czechia and Germany are all correct as these are the short form names in English of those countries as recognised by the UN, it's not a new obsession, it's just correct use of language. Full list of long and short form names can be found here https://unterm.un.org/unterm2/en/country
Although Côte d’Ivoire translates directly as Ivory Coast, (well, strictly it’s ‘Coast of Ivory’, but you know what I mean!) the official “English” name is still Côte d’Ivoire.

The reason for this is another discussion I guess, but that’s what it is.
[It’s also not as simple as just directly translating a country’s name into English, as then, (to use the example that keeps being used to complain about this), we’d call Germany “Germanland” as that’s how Deutschland translates.]
Austria, which in German is Österreich, would be Eastern Empire.  Japan, being Nippon, is The sun's origin, and China, 中国 (Simplified) or 中國 (Traditional) pronounced Zhōngguó, is Middle Kingdom.

Now, what would France translate as?
"Land of the Franks", Anglicized from Late Latin Francia, from Old Frankish Franko. The name "Frank" itself has been derived from the historic framea ("javelin"),[38] proposed Proto-Germanic *frankon ("spear", "javelin"),although the characteristic weapons of the Franks were the sword and the Frankish axeand from the Proto-Germanic *frankisc ("free") from *frank ("free")[38]although they were not masters until after their conquest of Gaul.
Gallia, a former name: "Land of the Celts", from Latin Gallia, of uncertain etymology. Possible derivations include an eponymous river[citation needed] or a minor tribe reconstructed as *Gal(a)-to- whose name was cognate with the Proto-Celtic *galno- ("power", "strength").[citation needed]
Gaul, a former name: "Land of Foreigners", from French Gaule, from Proto-Germanic *Walhaz, originally meaning "Volcae" but eventually simply "foreigner".

I don't really believe in this Argentina are favoured so as they'll win the World Cup, but....

Of the eight teams who got to the quarter~finals they picked up second fewest bookings (3) dispute committing fourth most fouls.1 booking every 20 fouls. England have a card every 7 fouls.

Looking at that Spain 11 it really doesn’t feel as intimidating as squads previously.

Without Pedri you’d expect this may be a closer game.

Can’t see Belgium beating France so hoping for a Spain win here as I’d fancy our chances moreso against this version of Spain than the French.
