    It’s quite straightforward for England who know the paths to the semi final, whichever position they qualify.

    Qualify 3rd
    R32 -> 1st Group K in Kansas City (Portugal)
    R16 -> 1st Group B in Vancouver (Canada / Switzerland)
    QF -> 1st Group J (Argentina) in Kansas City
    SF in Atlanta

    Qualify 2nd
    R32 -> 2nd Group K in Toronto (Colombia)
    R16 -> 1st Group H in Dallas (Spain)
    QF -> 1st Group D/G in Los Angeles (USA/Belgium)
    SF in Dallas

    Qualify 1st
    R32-> 3rd Group K in Atlanta (as long as 3rd Group K qualified)
    R16 -> 1st Group A in Mexico City (Mexico)
    QF -> 1st Group C in Miami (Brazil)
    SF in Atlanta

    Mexico City and Miami both have colder record temperatures than England. Should be light work for the boys
    Are you SURE about that?
    34.7 Mexico City vs 38.7 Miami vs 40.3 in tropical England
    I was being facetious - it reads as though the record cold temperature in MiamI and Mexico City is lower than in England 😏

Fly out of NY two days after the final - ho ho.  The UK flights are also changeable.

    Last week i looked at the hotels again and rebooked some of them saving over £1,000 as the price of the hotels have dropped drastically - not the take up they thought?

    Don't have any tickets for any games but really hope to get at least one but going with the view there is a chance we might not even get to see one... possibly a mistake not going earlier.

    You are only 60 once and given Tavern was born in 66 we think its worth a go.  Fingers crossed.

    It’s going to be hot everywhere. I’m keeping an eye on the temps as the England - Ghana game gets closer, as 4pm here can easily get to 30c in Boston, and there’s not much shade in the stadium if the suns high. Humidity hasn’t started kicking in yet, but if it does it can be pretty miserable outside.

    Probably already been mentioned, but five rules being implemented for the World Cup
    • VAR can check corners
    • VAR can can review second bookings
    • You can be sent off for covering your mouth in a confrontational manner
    • If a Goalkeeper goes down injured, players cant go over to the technical area
    • Countdown to stop wasting, 5-secs to take a Goal Kick or a throw in, whilst 10-secs to be subbed off
    Will be interesting to see how these work in practice.

    It's to stop a player covering their mouth and saying a racist/homophobic insult and then getting no punishment

    No I'm not sure what its about either - I've never really seen it to be a contentious thing, as thought it was usually just done to avoid the media trying to work out whatever they're saying to each other - Happens in the majority of sport now, what with the media employing lip readers.

    Quite surprised by that as i remember seeing a documentary on the 1986 world cup in Mexico and from memory every game looked like it was played in roasting hot sunshine and a lot of the England players struggled with the heat.

    So i looked it up:

    "Terry Fenwick reported losing a stone in fluids. At half-time in the group match v Portugal players were forced to wrap towels soaked in ice water around themselves to lower their dangerously high body temperatures"

    "Gary Lineker recalled that during the 3-0 group-stage win over Poland—in which he scored a famous hat-trick—the second half was "murder, absolute murder," and he genuinely feared he was going to collapse and die on the pitch."

    There's an answer as to why players are more acclimatised now than 1986 but as seen on another thread recently it will cause arguments, insluts and the closing down of the thread

    Two teammates walking off at halftime having a chat behind their hands is fine.

    Going up to an opposition player after a foul or a perceived disrespectful goal celebration and saying something to him behind your hand is a red card

    Perfect example from a long while ago now is of noted shithouse Sergio Busquets calling Marcelo a monkey while covering his mouth on one side with his hand so the ref couldn't see it.

    EA FC's "The World's Game," aka their World Cup but we don't have the licensing anymore since we broke up with FIFA, DLC came out today. I haven't had a chance to play it yet because of stupid work, but I'm looking forward to having a little binge this afternoon/evening. Can I take England to glory? Can I make Spain Tiki Taka their way to the title? Can the USA...win a group game? Stick around and find out!

    That’s astonishing - so when it was 35c in London last week that’s hotter than it’s ever been in Mexico City!
    Can you prove this?  I find it hard to believe that it has never gone above 35 degrees in Mexico City.

    Yep, a massive storm here last night. Not surprising given the Austin stadium is open air. Both of the stadiums in Texas that will be used for the tournament in Dallas and Houston have retractable roofs and will be kept closed for all games.

    Mexico City has an official average elevation of 2,240 meters (7,350 feet) above sea level  this will have an effect on the temperature.

    Tickets available for the final for $7500 in the gods on the fifa official site
    BA flights and decent hotels not silly money
    Do you take the chance?

    Tickets could easily be sold (might lose money though)
    Cancellable hotel
    Rebookable flight

    If we do get there those tickets will be double the price

    I was at Wembley and Berlin is it 3rd time lucky and how much is it worth the gamble ???

    We have booked flights in to Dallas for the 3rd July... booked the hotels all the way through to the finals for the two routes.  All hotels can be cancelled before the cut off needed, obviously we will let one lot go once we know where we qualify.

    You are only 60 once and given Tavern was born in 66 we think it’s worth a go.  Fingers crossed.
    We did the same on hotels, Bren. Rebooked all 13 nights accommodation a week or so ago into better quality and located hotels actually, and saved the thick end of $2,000
    The inheritance is looking more healthy.
    Back off Elfs

    i put in the request for Bob to adopt me back in 2019

    Henderson starts tonight.

    Lets hope this is a case of playing a few of the fringe…

    Cant see why we’d risk Kane.

    Should be there or Dallas. Really don’t understand it being at MetLife (other than biggest capacity I think?) - awful pitch where a lot of NFL players have suffered horrific injuries, old, outdated stadium.

    I think AT&T (Dallas) has a bigger capacity than MetLife.

    Nike ad is great - love the Croydon reference.

    I’ve also seen Cole Palmer in so many World Cup ads 😬
