Best thing about today's game was seeing Leaburn. This was the first time I've seen Miles Leaburn and although it was only Dartford you could see that he was a good player. I think Garner will like that he is different to Stockley, not a central battering ram, despite his height but someone who can go wide and fit to 433. I'm happy for him to be 4th striker. He looks a much better bet than Davison.
Leaburn is obviously underage. No issue with him and Kanu being notionally 5th and 6th choice. Even if Davison is 4th choice.
Aaron Henry is a player, this lad will go on to have a good career. Range of passing is very good, very calm on the ball, happy to have it under pressure, and strikes the ball very well!
miles Leaburn is a until, and athlete as well, is he one of the those that will benefit from a loan or will he stay around the first team as he is such a handful..
let’s not get carried away, as Dartford were awful.. players looked more comfortable today with the ball at there feet..
negative for me, Clayden isn’t up to it, neither is Davinson
I normally really agree with your posts (and do for that one for about 80% of it), but from that 45 mins you got ‘Clayden isn’t up to it?!’
Other than two misplaced passes, he was superb! Ran up and down that line all half, linked well with Fraser/JFC/Davison and put in some excellent balls.
It was against rubbish opponents, and I’m not certain against better he will be quite good enough as he didn’t pull up any trees on loan to non league last year, but he caused no end of problems in that second half.
Davidson did what Clive Mendonca and Gary Nelson did in bygones days and made sure that contact was made.
Ask the question again did Sean Clare play as an attacking RB ?
Clare didnt really advance as much as Clayden on the other flank, almost acted as a third Centre-Back
Though unless Garner addressed it (not seen his post match yet) I'm not sure if that's under instruction or just him being a bit more wary about being caught out as he's not a natural FB.
If Egbo/Sessegnon end up at RB I'd expect either to be considerably more attacking.
I like Clare there, it gives you the flexibility of almost playing a back 4 out of position but a 3 in it, you can really push the left back up.
The alternative is probably the anchor in midfield being able to drop in between the two center backs like Bielik did.
He also gives you a bit of extra hight for attacking, and defending, set pieces.

I am not judging just on yesterday performance, naturally he bought more balance to the team because he is left footed, but his crossing ability isn’t good enough.. he also decision making isn’t great! I would love to be proven wrong, but I can’t see him playing much, he will go out on loan national league then sign for them next summer once contract ends!

If those are his only major weaknesses than he’s worth keeping, even if it’s to send him on loan again. Pace alone is very effective at this level and those are things that can be worked on. If he stays we’d need him to be cover at left back and being an attacking one with pace means when he does play we’re not changing our style of play. His loan last season was his first proper run of games at first team level.
How did Elerewe play? Was really excited about this guy seeing him last pre season, so great on the ball and athletic with it. If his pre season is good I want to see him starting a fair number of games this season.
He had very little defending to do, as in the last 30 we were completely dominant, so impossible to judge

Ok. And from what I’ve seen of him over the last couple of years I would agree. But just based on yesterday, which is what I thought you implied, I thought he had a really good half. Albeit under very little pressure.
Hadn’t seen him play left back before. And would like to see that again as I thought perhaps in the way we are seemingly playing this year, his strengths would suit this style of play. Unsure as to whether or not he can defend though.

It’s typically a weakness of players with pace and should improve with experience which he still lacks. Clearly he did enough while out on loan for the club to keep him here another year.
At the very least it’s worth Garner seeing where he thinks Clayden is over preseason. Now that SS is here if we bring someone in at left back they’ll be coming as second choice and perhaps not significantly better than what we already have.
I think Elewere, who won’t even be 19 years old for another couple of months, has had a decent pre season showing so far. His initial promise has not diminished after a quieter period in the second half of last season. He has something of the Gomez/Konsa about him in terms of composure and confidence in his own ability. He is still very young for a player in his position, but looking good. Could become a very class footballer.

The thing about SS is he isnt just a left back, or even a specialist left back like say Purrington. Purrington looked like a left back playing somewhere else when ever he played somewhere else.
SS can obviously provide competition at right back, across the midfield and potentially even as a wide forward.
There is no guarantee that if we bring in a specialist left back both won't play 35 plus games, many in the same games.
Enjoyed the game. Loved the way the players coming on during the second half really got going quickly. Ok, the opposition was a bit less than the first half but you can only beat what's in front of you and the second half team did just that. The new boys look good. Particularly impressed by the movement of O'Connell at the back. Leaburn impressed and took his goals very well.
Fraser was the best player on the pitch yesterday, he is going to be huge this season.
I would expect for all our players to be the best on the pitch, we were playing Dartford. Let's not get carried away until he plays against league oppo.

He was very good for MKD and if he recreates that form he will have a huge season for us.

How can 22 players all be the best?
I said all "our" players, meaning our 11 to be better than Dartford's 11.
Neither Charlton defensive lineup were put under very much pressure. "Playing it out from the back" & "ball-playing defenders" translates in realtime to playing ourselves into deep trouble even against a side not pressing. Any of that bullshit after 30 July and we'll be conceding moronic goals Things improved dramatically with Clayden on the pitch, partly the balance of a natural left-sided player but mostly the sheer amount of effort expended, he made a couple of mistakes but at his stage of development that's fine. Today he is far and away our best left-back Report on Sessegnon from my Fulham S/T colleague: "he's a right back, not brilliant, which is why he got loaned out, he got played in various positions because he's reasonably 2 footed but right back is his best" Dobbo was Dobbo, comfortably carrying the absence of effort from Fraser and the erratic frenzy from Morgan. Fraser maybe one or two short dribbles through midfield but barely raised a sweat. Kirk FFS! Maybe he was overheated but it wasn't from effort. Made good use of that one pass from Morgan and shot through many legs giving their goalie no sight. That apart he did naff all. Jaiyesimi did a bit more than Kirk but achieved nothing. Morgan ran non-stop, always wanted the ball but it was the ultimate Albie performance: all effort and almost no positive outcome, terrible dead balls and one 45 yard diagonal from which Kirk found the net. Stockley blundered around with enthusiasm with no actual support from the shirking Kirk or DJ
Against an undercooked 6th tier part-time side, Charlton were better in all areas but 2 - 1 after 60 minutes was fair. 60 minutes on was a different game altogether In no small part due to the bit part rabble fielded by Dartford but Clayden, JFC, Henry, Davison and Leaburn delivered far more in their 45/30 minutes than their forebears. Clare took up a right back slot but as in the first hour Charlton were defensively unchallenged - still managed the playing about with it at the back shitshow Aneke's sheer bulk was too much for the Darts' reserve backline, just his presence was enough to create openings.
I called for a high-scoring demolition and we got one. I hadn't banked on Dartford's resources being so sparse.
We need at least one specialist left back, probably more.
3 words for the repugnant halfwit who brought a flare/smoke bomb: Stay Away Forever That lowlife needs a lifetime ban.
The rabble behind the goal presumably thought they were having a good time and being funny. Wrong, you're a shameful bunch of tossers that's not needed at any club, least of all ours.

Although I don’t agree with all of this, a lot of it is very fair. Dartford we’re disappointing and didn’t give us a contest. We have some more convincing to do before we eventually turn it up to 11. At the moment we are about a 5.5.
The thoughts of the Dartford manager (subtitles are available). The final 60 was a VERY inexperienced Dartford side, at the back they had a triallist GK and a back 4 of 3 academy players and a triallist, so the comparative performances of the 2 Charlton teams are difficult to judge
