  • Any highlights? I was out and missed yesterday's game and I can't see anything on Charlton TV yet.

    Many thanks
  • We will need to hear Ben Garner speak post match after we have conceded a goal after a blatant foul missed by referee and assistance to lose a game in the build up to a goal in a League match to Judge Ben but he seems a calm guy.
Thanks for reminding me that Trevor Kettle exists.
  • Leaburn getting  better by the game. Movement is excellent, holds up play well, lay offs are top notch (the two assists last night were prime examples) and he is calm in front of goal. May the steady progress continue.

Interesting on Chuks that Garner wants to look at him as a false 9, which he played at Dartford, puts a lot on midfielders and wingers to get beyond him and run into goal scoring positions.
Requires good movement from midfielders and wingers? We can’t be having that in a Charlton side.
  • I love Chuks, but he is a goalscorer and that's it. That's okay at our level, just tell him to run into the box at every opportunity. Don't try to play, don't try to pass, just get on the end of it and let your instinct take over.
But he hit a lovely chip pass for Leaburn's goal last week and got the assist for the OG yesterday

Shame that he was blowing out of his arse after 30 odd minutes, I really cant get my head around his fitness, if it was a serious medical issue surely he wouldn't have passed his medical.

I believe it is a serious medical issue. It was revealed on here once.

I thought that was speculation as to bonne and his heart thing?

In regards to chucks, if I recall it was a mental thing?

Decent interview from the new manager but will someone please buy him a clean T-shirt.

Or even better, a collared shirt and club tie.

    😂

collared shirt and a tie in 30 degree heat for a football teams pre season friendly.

It’s the football where we want a high press, not the clothing.
But that’s a fair point, the T Shirt didn’t look ironed!

Perhaps I am just noticing the poorer parts of his game? I just see him falling over his own feet, over-running the ball and, with plenty of time and space, passing the ball ten feet straight to an opposition player. Next game I will try to be a bit more positive and look for the good stuff, Chunes.

You're right, he did do a lot of that yesterday as well to be fair. I wonder if he's not able to do the same fitness work as everyone else because he looked knackered at times.
  • This preseason took on a more familiar hue yesterday
Probable first teamer gets serious (probably ligament) injury and indefinite layoff
    Chuks already on restricted duties
Lots of people getting over excited about the "emergence" of a teenager
All to the constant accompaniment of hysterical bleating by legions of keyboard worriers and twatterati

    COYR!
  • A correction to the U23 team from last night - the team sheet said Nathan Harvey was going to start as keeper, and that's what the tannoy announcer said. I've never seen any of the U23s play and didn't know any different, but now I'm home and can look at their pictures on the website, it's somewhat obvious that it was Henry Molyneux playing as keeper. He was wearing number 13, as per team sheet, so presumably a late change of some sort. The keeper who did the first few minutes of the second half wasn't on the team sheet. Hopefully there will be some sort of write-up by someone who actually knows the players rather than my knowledge-free efforts.

So, bearing in mind that I watched Henry Molyneux playing and didn't realise it wasn't Nathan Harvey(!) my impression of the game was there was a lot of good play on display, the one huge problem being they couldn't cope with an organised and experienced defence. Every attempted final ball seemed to end with a defensive header. But they stuck at it, and profited at the end as the part-time opposition started to tire. A lot of very young-looking players in the squad and a keeper from the under 18s mean it was a pretty impressive outing against decent opposition, IMHO. It was enjoyable enough that I'd be thinking about watching them occasionally if I lived locally.
Nathan Harvey played the first half 100%, Henry Molyneux was in goal for the second half.
No shame in losing to Hampton, but 3-2 flattered us. It was 3 nil with 5 minutes to go!
    We we're second best.
  • One thing I have noticed is Inniss has done the same as everyone else hasn't he?

Be interesting if he can manage the 75 minutes on Saturday.

So I’m guesstimating that likely team against Sutton at the weekend, excluding any injuries or niggles or new signings, is…

    Wollacott
    Clare
    Inniss
    O’Connell
    Sessegnon
    Dobson
    Forster-Caskey
    Fraser
    Kirk
    Blackett-Taylor
    Stockley

These will get 75 mins and last night’s starters get 15.

The interesting line-up will be the one that plays Swansea. As good an indication as any towards Garner’s starting eleven for July 30.

This looks very much like what I suspect our starting line up against Accrington will be.

Garner’s current first choice side other than McGrandles for JFC and Egbo for Clare?

Only two positions that I'd question are Goalkeeper, and whether Morgan plays over JFC.

Bench will be interesting as wonder if Henry | Clayden | Leaburn have done enough in Garner's eyes to be involved.

I’ve quiet liked the look of Henry last couple of games has certainly looked very very tidy on the ball - though midfield is one place we are not short. Hard to tell how he would handle the pace and physicality of an actual league one fixture.

Clayden I think may only get on the bench if we don’t bring in another full back, and likewise with Leaburn and attacking options (as well as he has done).

I’d keep Leaburn about for the inevitable Aneke injury, that’s for sure.
  • Reading that a lot of posters think that Egbo is a shoe in for the right back slot, personally think Clare is a better option, (ignoring the injury).

Who's Egbert? Our new signing from 1951?

I agree, but based solely on what I have seen so far which could of course change.

Am I missing something here, isn’t Egbo injured for the foreseeable?
And McGrandles nowhere near match fit cos he’s been recovering from last seasons injury?

I meant if everyone was fully fit and available to play.
  • Yes, Scoham is saying when fit Egbo & McGrandles will be first choices.
    McGrandles should be training soon.
Egbo has a knee injury & likely to be back in September.
