Anybody STILL arguing we don't need another striker? Aneke will never be a reliable second striker, he just can't stay fit.
Was anyone ever actually arguing that in the first place?!
Yes.Saying that CBT and Kirk can become goalscorers and we don't need another goalscoring forward.
  • The talk at the Valley today was that this midfield add attack tonight v Welling pus the defence and GK v Swansea will be the starting line up v Accrington.
I find that hard to believe. Why would you play your first choice midfield against part time Welling, rather than against Championship opponents, and really get them sharp?

Tomorrow will be a massively harder defensive task, and you want to see how your midfield copes.
  • Aneke injured or just the usual hobble off when times up?
  • Richard Chin is like the second coming of Maatsen

    Chin is very energetic!

Was thinking how confident he looked. Could be another gem unearthed.
  • Poor effort by Kanu. Cristiano Gilbey would have buried it.

Has something about him, maybe one to spend some time out on loan and work toward challenging for that right back spot.

I gotta say, should we really be letting JFC go quite so easily? He's rather good

Obviously we shouldn't and especially not to a team in our league.

Maybe if freeing up his wages means we can better strengthen other positions.
  • I forgot about this game. I do believe Gilbey has the game to have goals in him. Glad he is showing it. Pisses me off when people slag him off when I think he has a lot to offer us.

That Fraser-Morgan-Payne midfield exactly the one I said I'd prefer a few days ago btw
That midfield gets absolutely bullied by some of the cloggers in this league
Are you aware that Payne made the third highest amount of tackles in L2 last season?
  • Really don't know what Kirk does , he can't take players on or won't, hasn't got the pace to play as a winger; Claydon has loads more pace, takes players on, can deliver a good cross, and tracks back and puts a tackle in.
Some good goals, JFC looked good, Gilbey was good, Ness was tidy, DJ was good.
Mcgillvery still worries me as do our defence when we start passing it around at the back under pressure.
I know it's only a friendly but I don't see any improvement in Kirk, not a fan at the moment.

Charles “not a left back” Clayden drills in a cross for DJ to make it 3-0
He proved he's a left winger.

    We aren't.

He's deserved the criticism, he's been shit for two seasons!

The one who plays for Crawley did......

    According to Who Scored anyway.

First pre-season game I've watched.  There was some decent football played; Gilbey looked good as did Dobson and JFC. Don't see what Kirk offers, seems lightweight and a little disinterested. Ness looks assured and was impressed with cameos by Chin and Kanu. Pity about Aneke, because he was looking strong...at least I got to see him before he is out for the season.

He seems to mainly hang around in a slightly appealing way. Like that old tin of boiled sweets tried once and then left in the glove compartment.
Upon eventual investigation you find a kind of sticky slightly mushy challenge stuck to the sides of said tin.
Sounds slightly akin to my custard exploits!!😂

But it feels to me like some are criticisng now when he plays well. That is not right. If he has a poor game, call it. If he is ok or has a good game call that too. I am convinced he can get goals and we need goals with the tactics we are employing, which I am not sure about in all honesty. Not the tactics per se, but whether they play to our strengths.

Pretty sure he's been frustrated with his own form since he joined us.
Good to see him having a decent run out today though.
Thought the game was ok, although I missed the first eight minutes of the second half i.e. the goals.

Those tactics got 2 goals out of Gilbey and another day he could have scored 3 or 4

Funny how people see games, I think Kirk offered more than DJ and find DJ far more frustrating. That said it’s Welling in a bcd friendly so it means v v little!
    Agreed.
