I mean, I can see them giving Stokes man of the match quite easily, but my man of the match is the same as my man of the tournament. A small, feisty Zimbabwean lad
Stokes, whenever and wherever, he bats is at his very best when he has clarity as to what his role is. His batting T20 on the international and domestic stages overall isn't great either. This wicket was a very difficult one to bat on and he looked hopelessly out of touch, at times, because of that. But he wasn't unique in that respect though and in fact only one or two, on either side, actually looked like they had a game plan to cope with the wicket. The one thing Stokes did do though, is to not allow his visible frustration with himself to give it up and when it came to it, he got us over the line. And that is what winners do.
One thing that we shouldn't forget about Stokes' influence on games has been is his bowling. Not many would have expected a year ago for him to be consistently bowling important spells - 16.2 overs at 6.79 has been fantastic given that so many of those overs were in the Power Play.
The one guy who has gone unnoticed is Moeen Ali. He only scored 57 runs in the tournament and bowled just 2 overs. He can frustrate by soft dismissals at times but he brings a certain calmness to any situation - his 24* off 12 against Ireland almost got us over the line in that game when we finished with 105-5 off 14.3 overs and today his 19 off 12 balls at a crucial stage just took the pressure off - and potentially made the difference between winning and losing today.
Overall, a fantastic tournament win for us. Frustrating when we didn't perform to our best but we learnt from any mistakes and ultimately proved that we are the best white ball team in the world.
England now have 3 ODIs against Australia. It will be nice for the Aussie public to have another chance to watch the victorious England white ball team
I've been exchanging messages with my two boys - the eldest was at the game (and is shortly off to Qatar for that other World Cup) and the other watched the match in a casino in Adelaide. One loves nothing better than watching sport, the other lives for playing cricket but both like a gamble. What's that saying about the "apple never falling far from the tree"?

I was just kidding. I was waiting for updates all morning of what your boys were up to and wondered if they were on tv in the crowd. What an experience for the one there. Last time England won at the mcg I was there. It was emptier at the end though that time.

Aussies without Maxwell too, fractured his leg in his mates back garden at a party!
Never in doubt and we will win the final We are the best team, only England can beat England... if we play decent then they'll have to play exceptional to beat us, the numbers are in our favour, we'll beat them
When the worlds most pessimistic cnut is bullish then there’s only ever gonna be one outcome !!!
I think Stokes is a sandwich short of a picnic and on occasions he hasn’t played the match situation to my liking but on plenty of times he has played it beyond perfectly and today was a perfect example of that . he has gears as well that he can change in to . his measured approach was just what was required today rather than see ball, hit ball , miss ball, out. He adapted to the conditions and match situation. brilliantly , at one point Pakistan (Naseem) were unplayable and rather than getting angry and throwing the bat he held his nerve the decent bowlers disappeared and him and Ali attacked at the right time .
no one is perfect but he’s massively helped us to win two world cups now with his patience and innings building .
There’s no extra prizes for winning it in the 16th 17th 18th over he’s a winner and that’s what you need . I’d rather he saved himself for Test Crickey but if he wants to cherry pick when to play , when you’re that special , go for it as far as I’m concerned.
first and only game i have seen of this tournament thanks to sky not monopolising it completely. (to the detriment of the game in general but hey ho)
Great stuff from stokes and Ali to get us across the line but i felt the real damage was done by our bowlers. Curran and Rashid in particular. Gave us a target which imo was relatively easy to reach.

I think Pakistan got exactly the same score as the West Indies did batting first in the 2012 WC. That day Sri Lanka couldn't get near it & were all out for just over 100.
Make sure you remind them that they (Australia) are also winners because our white ball coach Matthew Mott is Australian and everyone can be happy together !!
I have only read the last couple of pages, so I am sure someone else must have mentioned it previously, but does the Pakistan wicket keeper have a bladder problem? He seemed to have his hand up to be excused every twenty seconds...

Definitely excessive appealing, went up every time the ball passed with a foot of an edge
I sort of guess what he means especially as this series will be seen by the Australians as a chance to start to build again given their poor WC performances.

Moeen really unhappy about having to play the 3 match ODI series. Though imagine how much worse it would have been if we had LOST yesterday!
