    The Xmas Turkey came early.

At least my bet that Maguire and Stones would pass the ball to each other more than 40 times came in.

So Wales need to beat us 4-0, whilst there needs to be a winner between Iran vs United States to stop us advancing

Should Iran beat United States, and we draw with Wales, then we come 2nd
Should United States beat Iran, and we draw with Wales, then we come 2nd
  • Well that was a load of tosh.
  • None of our attacking players played well .
    That's it.
  • Yep, can't defend that performance but the good news is, we did keep a clean sheet, we didn't get any bookings and didn't pick up injuries.

We are through to the knockouts (not officially but tbf it may aswell be)

England probably won't win the world Cup as we aren't quite good enough but that's life
  • It was shit…same as the 2nd game in the euros and the 2nd game in the last WC….They didn’t work out too badly,
  • As Lee Dixon said... defeat for either team was disastrous and both teams ended up playing like it

Cautious in attack, because neither wanted to leave themselves open to the counter - The result hurts the United States a lot more, as nothing short of a win over Iran and they're out... as we saw today, they cant finish a Thanksgiving Dinner

Dunno... that 6-1 win over Panama wasn't bad ;)

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility Iran finish ahead of us in the group!
  • Really pleased how well maguire played.

My biggest concern was how easy a team like USA worked out Bellingham. He was very quiet.

Get it out the way, fuck it.
  • England are still massive favourites to go through. Wales aren't going to win by 4. This game may have cost England first place in the group, but goal difference is kind of useful in a tight group.
  • Just adds pressure to the actual banana skin game of the group. Wales were shit today but they will play out of their skins on Tuesday.

Would have just been nice to have completely wrapped it up this eve and got some minutes into the rest of the squad in the last group match.
  • Shall we just pretend it didn’t happen
or wake up to that performance was more the recent norm than the outlier of  the magnificent performance against Iran

the frustrating thing is it isn’t Charlton where we are unsurprisingly shit and it’s inevitable
england have some top class players who haven’t performed to their max in recent times

the important thing is it’s all in our hands and we have soooo much more to give, let’s hurt Wales and get in to the exciting knockout stuff where we will hopefully perform nearer our capabilities than below par stuff
  • Dissapointing!
  • That was a truly awful game. We looked sloppy and devoid of ideas.
  • The trouble with our caution in games like that is the fact that its a Group Stage, and can cost us a place in the KO Rounds.

Once we're there, that sort of play will work more to our advantage as the opposition wont be able to sit back and settle for a point either

The biggest issue today, was the amount of chances the United States wasted, and that should be a concern for them against Iran too

  • Sometimes you need them games to get things right. No doubt we will see the anti England mob swamp this thread now.
We beat Iran. The mighty Iran! And draw with the mighty mighty USA.

We never turn up against these shites, let's see how we react before sacking a manager unbeaten in the tourney so far.
They can't be that shite they were out muscled out coached and out played against so called mighty England the only thing they will bring home is their shitty underwear in their suitcases.
  • Reminder as well... England have never achieved nine points in the Group Stage of Tournament Football
  • Huge over reaction to a 0-0 draw. Anyone need a link to the match thread for the Scotland game from Euro 2020?

US energy in midfield was impressive and gave them control over the game for periods. McKennie, Adams and Musah were excellent and, in a 3v2, completely overran Bellingham and Rice.

Henderson should’ve been subbed on much sooner. I notice that decision was lambasted on here when it happened but we took control of the match from the moment he came on.
Not really an overreaction. The performance was godawful. Yes USA deserve credit, but we were fucking shit. But everyone knows we still ought to advance, so, overreaction? Nah.

As for Henderson, he doesn’t get the pulse racing, but I understand the sub because Bellingham was anonymous. But the reason we came into the game after he came on was because Grealish came on with him.
  • Maguire the only player who can hold his head up high after that
  • How on earth has foden not got on the pitch here
England through the ages. Blessed with a truly talented technical player. No idea how to use him.

Fodden would get in any club side in Europe, but not the England team. It's baffling.
Have you never seen Foden for England... Bloke has constantly been shit for us

Never seen him put a good game in when away from Man City

FA, Foden hasn't  been shit for England he just hasn't been the genius he is at City.

Football is now a 16 man game but it felt right from the beginning we were happy with a point.

Was surprised he didn't bring Foden on, midfield were too isolated from the front 3 and Foden is good between those lines.

Poor performance but I think we'll beat Wales and it won't matter.
  • If the US had a George Weah instead of his son, they'd be a real contender for this WC.

He's been better for England than Mount but Mount seems to be a Southgate fave for some inexplicable reason
