  • Like watching Charlton on a bad day. Hardly worked the USA goalkeeper at all.
  • Gareth is pleased, which is a plus.
  • Hopefully this is a wake-up call, No doubt they will advance but Southgate has to come up with a different playbook against some of the powerhouses they are going to have to face.
  • Shall we just pretend it didn’t happen
or wake up to that performance was more the recent norm than the outlier of  the magnificent performance against Iran

the frustrating thing is it isn’t Charlton where we are unsurprisingly shit and it’s inevitable
england have some top class players who haven’t performed to their max in recent times

the important thing is it’s all in our hands and we have soooo much more to give, let’s hurt Wales and get in to the exciting knockout stuff where we will hopefully perform nearer our capabilities than below par stuff
    Blimers !

oohaah has his positively sensible hat on tonight ! Great stuff ( I bet his missus & his boys are pleased !)

    But just don't mention Charlton....
  • Seen teams tear through the group and then come up against something different and they’re going home. Put it down as a steep learning curve and go again,
    Thanks Southgate!
  • So Wales need to beat us 4-0, whilst there needs to be a winner between Iran vs United States to stop us advancing

Should Iran beat United States, and we draw with Wales, then we come 2nd
Should United States beat Iran, and we draw with Wales, then we come 2nd
If USA beat Iran by less than 5 goals and we draw we win the group @ForeverAddickted

  • How on earth has foden not got on the pitch here
England through the ages. Blessed with a truly talented technical player. No idea how to use him.

Fodden would get in any club side in Europe, but not the England team. It's baffling.
Have you never seen Foden for England... Bloke has constantly been shit for us

Never seen him put a good game in when away from Man City

FA, Foden hasn't  been shit for England he just hasn't been the genius he is at City.

Football is now a 16 man game but it felt right from the beginning we were happy with a point.

Not a game changer though is he?
Great player. But tends to match the tempo of the side he finds himself in. If the rest are flying, he'll fly. If they're playing shyte , he'll be as shyte as the rest of 'em.
  • I don't understand how you can be happy with that performance. Happy with the clean sheet, happy with our position in the group, but not the performance.

    Thanks Southgate!

That’s a good one mate. Let me know when your next one arrives.
  • With his comments after the game, I think Southgate is deliberately taking the opportunity to take the spotlight off of us.
After the first game, everyone was saying we’re a good shot to win it. Now they won’t be. As others have said before, we had a poor draw against Scotland in the euros and the focus of the european media maybe drifted away from us then. We then built some momentum and looked almost unstoppable.

Southgate saying he was pleased with that performance will have foreign media thinking we aren’t much to worry about.
  • USA just didn't let us play how we wanted to..

    I don't think anyone is
  • It was shit…same as the 2nd game in the euros and the 2nd game in the last WC….They didn’t work out too badly,
Dunno... that 6-1 win over Panama wasn't bad ;)
Note to self - never post When you’ve been in the pub since 4pm…I genuinely thought Panama was the 3rd game. I’ll just quietly order another pint and hope nobody apart from you picked up on my stupidity.
  • If Foden was played wide left or in the advanced central midfield position (where Mount plays) we'd see the best of him, but Southgate keeps playing him right of a front 3 that doesn't suit him!

Do I back Pep or Gareth to judge his ability?
    Hmmmm.... tricky one that!

Not happy with the performance but 100% happy where England are right now. Big difference to when Charlton get a 1-0 at Lincoln.

The euros were 18 months too early for those group.  This world cup is a lottery, for multiple reasons.

Need to win one of Germany 2024 or USA (and friends) 2026 though.

  • Elated at the draw. But I would not be at all surprised if Iran beats us or draws. In either scenario, we are out and they are in. The USA has not looked great internationally frankly for most of the last 5 years. We lose matches we should win all the time.

  • The Euros were the PERFECT time for this group
    AT HOME
    Kane late 20s
    Henderson fresher
Sterling playing in his best position at City
    Foden precocious
    Maguire not scarred
    Walker younger

    France don't have

    Kante
    Benzema
    Pogba

    Let that sink in........

We'll see who's right very soon.

Should have been clearer but my post was in relation to Southgate saying he was happy with it
  • As LenGlover has posted above, it was a bit like watching Charlton on a bad day.
    How weird is that.

That's a bit harsh. There were nowhere near as many mis-hit passes, misunderstandings in midfield, corners that didn't beat the first man, and goals conceded from potshots outside the area as us on a bad day. Like watching us on an average day (ponderously passing it around the back, a lack of urgency getting it forward and very little threat in the opposition penalty area) I'd probably concede.
  • USA could end up being the losers following this result as they could go out without losing a game in the tournament - a draw will be enough for Iran to go through as long as Wales do not beat England

    Southgate wibble.

I assume you are less than 6 years old?

Or does it need spelling out to you that England have never been as good, consistently, as they are now.

    Let that sink in.......

Southgate, woke, waistcoat, wibble, load of old bollocks.
