And this is where we regret all those singles we turned down.
45-50 a lot easier for the tail to get than 70.
Stokes wouldn’t have hit as many boundaries with less balls faced and despite thinking the singles would take it below 50, it takes six singles to make up just one of his blows.
I think it’s a swings and roundabouts situation.
I agree, also increases the risk of stokes running out of partners.
Englands middle order lost this in the first innings.
I think Baz ball needs to drop a gear but with the Aussies ageing, I'm looking forward to the next tour, I think we will be at out most competitive in a long time (I'm deliberately glossing over that we have an aged bowling attack)
Magnificent by Stokes, but it was always likely that he'd be out too early for our liking.
Stokes is the ultimate X factor cricketer. For England to have won this after the Bairstow 'stumping' Captain Stokes would've had to score 200 ! Considering that before this Innings, Stokes averaged 35 that would've been a miracle, especially as he struggles to run. (Yes, he could've done it in 6's)
Amazing knock and big credit to Ben but I hope England are honest when they assess the last two tests.
I’d like to see a replay of what the umpire was doing immediately after the ball went through to Carey. It looked as though Bairstow looked up at him and the umpire moved towards bowler taking the bowlers hat/glasses off. If that was the case should the umpire have intervened before it went to tv umpire?
I’ll freely admit I’m only a casual cricket watcher, and only pay proper attention when there is an Ashes series or World Cup, but in the 25 years or so I’ve been following things there’s always been one big difference between England and Australia. Well, two if you count that they seem to produce more absolutely world class players, but the main one is they just sense when their moment of opportunity is in a game and take advantage of it far more consistently than England. England seem to need to be in a mess to focus minds a bit and battle out of adversity whereas the Aussies will pounce when they’re on top and hammer home the advantage. So often England battle back to just about get on top and then take their foot off the gas and let the Aussies back in. I think it’s a national psyche problem for us as much as it is a cricketing one.

Lack of winners mentality (should have Holden as manager), apart from Stokes and Duckett, the rest have a brittle backbone.
If only some of our batsmen had played a bit like these. Only two making over 20 in an innings is not good enough whatever the conditions or the opponents.

you can see at 17s and 33s that both umpires had heads down not looking by the time the ball hits the wicket. they both thought the ball was dead
Doesn't feel like England win this even 1 time in 30!
Silly declaration in the first test.
Gave away stupid wickets in this one.
