This is much the same Australian side that told Jimmy Anderson to prepare for a broken arm when he came out to bat, that made disparaging comments about Johnny Bairstow’s father. Sandpapered a ball to try to gain an advantage and moan like spoilt little children when things go against them. In short they’re cunts and we should treat them exactly like that from now on. Throw down their stumps when they step out of the crease, accidentally hit the batsmen with the ball when running between the wickets and give them plenty of hostile bowling. We have for years had to endure hostile conditions when over there we should give it back.
They are going to be on the end the of some vicious stuff
from the crowd at Leeds, going to be brutal
Who cares?, they are going to be bothered 0% by it.

You mean just like today when they weren't bothered in the long room, but decided to lodge an official complaint about the abuse, or immediately after it happened when, with the crowd on their backs, they then bowled an assortment of rubbish that Stokes despatched for more than fifty in five overs.

No you're right though. Not bothered at all were they? 🤣🤣

We need a fast bowler, and we don't have a fit one. Most of the problem comes down to that.

That and not having a threatening test spinner for the ladt decade.

They couldn’t take it from the retired majors in the long room, they are fucking thin skinned

Not heard any of the post match interviews but Wish they’d stop moaning about the stumping - I bet Bairstow had been spotted wandering off previously and Aussies were acting on a plan.

Also, Broad is on record as saying he wouldn’t walk if he nicked it and was not given out so let’s not play the hard done by card.

That said, I would us to do a Mankad to Steve Smith on the next game

When smith does his over reacting practice shots after the ball has beaten him, is he in his crease? I'm sure England will looking closely

i agree, but I'm glad stoked said what he did (we wouldn't want to win in that way)
I really hope the England analysts (and we employ enough of them) are watching for any Aussies who wander out of their crease...
If England do get a wicket that way, I hope the batsman gets called back. Moral high ground England

If lords members can get under their skin, I think beer'd up Mancs will definitely do the job

  • drop robinson and possibly anderson, play wood and a fully fit moeen. There's an argument to drop brook and call up foakes, but i think they'll stick with the batters.

  • Was Bairstow attempting to run? or attempting to gain any advantage at all?

    No absolutely not.

For that reason its even worse than a mankad IMO.

After all their preaching about the spirit of the game and pretending to be whiter than white in the years since sandpapergate it just showed that a Leopard never changes his spots. Beneath all that bluff they're still "win at all costs".

They were in control at that point anyway. It wasn't needed, they likely would have won the game properly anyway. Why resort to that? only one reason. They still don't know where the line between playing had and unsporting lies.

I hope Bairstow throws down the stumps every opportunity but then withdraws his appeal for the rest of the series. I hope Broady threatens to Mankad them at least once an over.
I hope he does too, but that his throwing is often erratic and hits their batsmen in the back at times. Get ready for a broken spine Carey
  • That "stumping" was as bad a bit of sportsmanship as an occasion of a bowler running out a batsman at the other end if the guy sets off too early, ruined a good game in my opinion and shows up the Aussies for what they are...clearly Bairstow was of the opinion the ball was dead...🤷‍♂️

I actually think its a lot worse than a bowler doing a Mankad (with or without warning). With a Mankad the on-striker can only be out if seeking to gain advantage by stealing ground. In this situation Bairstow wasnt seeking to gain any advantage of any kind. So much much worse.

If anything umpire should be calling over much quicker and encouraging the batsmen to meet in the middle sooner so that the game isnt so bloody slow sometimes.

Probably give them 4 overthrows each time
  • Fuck me the reception the Aussies are gonna get up north in the next 2 tests is gonna be incredibly enjoyable.

Dunno, I think there is a big difference to the boozy crowd jeering you from the stands whilst you are on the pitch and calling you a cheat, to someone in the members room giving you the verbals as you walk past them in the sanctuary of the pavilion
  • years ago I played in a league game when a similar thing happened .. points were at stake and our totally unapologetic captain made no effort to recall the batsman .. these were games in which there was one 'proper' umpire always officiating at the bowlers end .. he gave it out (he knew the laws) .. so just bear in mind that cricket at all levels can be a ruthless game, never mind just when the Ashes are at stake
  • Stokes can't be expected to nearly bail us out in every game .. the other batsmen (or batters f f s) need to get stuck in etc etc ..
comments from Stokes seem to me to suggest that the bazbollocks ideology will be ameliorated slightly in future games .. good call .. differing situations call for flexible tactics .. great to see attacking batting, BUT test cricket aint 20/20 .. 'to every thing there is a season'

To be honest it's probably not a bad way of getting Smith or Labuschagne out of their comfort zone which always helps, they like things just so etc.

I’d like to see a replay of what the umpire was doing immediately after the ball went through to Carey. It looked as though Bairstow looked up at him and the umpire moved towards bowler taking the bowlers hat/glasses off. If that was the case should the umpire have intervened before it went to tv umpire?
    https://www.ecb.co.uk/video/3564541/jonny-bairstow-wicket

you can see at 17s and 33s that both umpires had heads down not looking by the time the ball hits the wicket. they both thought the ball was dead
This is big for me. As Stokes implied in his interviews post game I think the umpires bottled the "was the ball dead?" question/decision.
  • are people moaning about something that is actually within the rules of the game?
No rules in cricket, they’re laws. Picking the ball up and throwing it to the opposition i technically out if the opposition appeal too. Just because it’s a law doesn’t make it the right thing to do
  • Will Pope make the next test? If not could Foakes be called up and Bairstow promoted up the order (not that he's shown anything like last year's form yet)?
Bairstow's form with the bat has always been massively negatively impacted by keeping. Take the gloves away and he has a much higher chance of recovering that form.

Especially as everyone is moaning, and players are being fined for SLOW over rates. Forcing batters to wait longer until they leave their crease just slows the game even more.
