Crawley hasn’t changed how he’s played at all. There have been plenty of streaky moments in his innings.
He gets out for 30 and it’s called reckless but when all his shots go in the gaps it’s not reckless. 🤷♂️
I disagree. He left far more balls outside his off stump than previously, which is why he didn't edge one and get caught.
It was that selectivity his morning that gave him the right to bat the way he can bat. He scored just 28 runs off his first 50 balls (56.00 SR) and was more selective than he has been on many occasions in the early stages of his innings. It was those 50 balls that allowed him to then score 161 runs off the next 132 balls (122 SR).
Which is how 'Bazball' should work.
Sensible Bazball?
Exactly. Not the reckless batting that we demonstrated in that mad couple of hours in the 2nd Test when the Aussies were in an even worst situation that they are currently now i.e. with Lyon off the field injured and just four seamers left on the field, we went from 188-1 to 325 all out
Root will be annoyed to get out there but both he and Crawley have been done by inconsistent bounce now. Good signs for England who need 10 more wickets…
as much as i enjoy seeing the aussies hurt themselves, i think it shows how utterly ridiculous the schedule for this series has been.
Ridiculous that before the Ashes both sides are having to preplan rotating bowlers. Imagine past Ashes where the likes of Lillee, Willis or McGrath have to be rested mid series

Bring back 6 test series with county games between each test !!
it does feel a bit like we have let them off the hook a bit this last hour - I think psychologically Aus knew they weren't likely to bowl us out tonight and it was all about limiting us and seeing out time, so in a way we have just played into their hands really - could have been 40 or 50 runs further up the road for maybe another 2? 3? wickets lost - in the grand scheme of the game you'd have to think that would have been worth it - we are only going to do it first hour tomorrow instead aren't we so all we have really done is limited our own time to get them tomorrow.
I don't know too much about cricket so if i've missed something tactically here then happy to accept that! Just seems like a missed opportunity to go for the kill a bit.
Eight overs lost in the day due to slow over rate…
15 so far, knowing there will be "weather". Its really poor form.
If the light is good, just bowl the bloody overs.
Take the batting teams average runs per over for the day. Multiply it by the number of overs lost due to slow rate. Subtract that number of runs from the fielding team's first innings total.

I'd like to see it trialed in cricket
