What do we think bat for a few hours and put them in just before lunch? I assume we might have a total we want to post but equally feels like we really need to go for it so maybe just a few hours and give ourselves a chance to bowl them out today.
We need to have a decent lead though. Pointless declaring if the lead will be easily overhauled, especially if we're on top.
I think we have to assume we'll get some play on the final 2 days. If both days are totally washed out, then so be it, as Test matches don't conclude within 3 days unless it's a minefield, which this pitch isn't.
I think with the weather, short sharp sessions, overcast, added "spice" in the pitch, the uneven bounce we are already seeing, all factored in 250 would be a massive 3rd innings score.
I would try and get 100 more runs as quickly as possible then put them in before lunch.
If the conditions for the last 3 days were the same as the first 2 I would bat as long as possible today.
Agreed. Go really hard for 15 overs, try and get another 120-130 and have a few at them before lunch.
I dont think Starc will be bowling this morning and imagine the Aussies will be using every trick in the book to try and slow down the game from ball one.
In reponse to the gamesmanship at Lords, we need our batters to mess up the pitch as much as they can this morning. The Aussies gave us a free cheat card.
We should also remember 2019 when the Aussies retained the ashes after drawing 2-2. We were chasing the win at Lords despite the last 2 days being rain affected. Could have been very different with the weather behaving.
IF we can win at old trafford, i think a 3-2 win could be in the bag. Back-to-back tests at the oval and the aussies looked completely shot yesterday. Let's hope God is an englishman..
The Crawley-Root stand, of 206 at 6.94 per over, was the fastest-scoring Test partnership of 200 or more ever recorded. It was also England's first double-century stand in a home men's Ashes Test this millennium.
Let's hope both records have to be rewritten this morning.

They put all their selection eggs in this basket. Starc looks to be carrying an injury and they bowled him into the ground yesterday as England made them keep on going back to him by hitting head out the attack. Same goes for Cummins. Doubt Starc will be fit for the next test. Hazlewood has been playing every other test (and hasnt looked that effective) doubt that he will be ready to go for the Oval and if they pick him it'll be a risk. The Oval will be Cummins 6th test in a row and hes bowled the most overs for Aus in that time and most for a Quick in every test. Hes had one hell of a workload and a history of injuries. Serious risk to play him again. Green has had his overs managed all series. Boland has been pretty ineffective. Nesser and Abbott are around but it is difficult to drop a player into a series for the decider. After dropping the spinner for this test will they convince him that he has their full backing for the Oval? difficult sell.
Win this one and not only is momentum with us but we are firmly in the driving seat selection wise.
I said Baz ball with nous would be the best way to play but after the amazing innings by Zak Crawley yesterday, Baz ball with luck as the usual mix of Sublime to the ridiculous for Zak yesterday saw him to 189 and nearly an average of 40 in tests in England. Forget his poor average everywhere else.
Momentum is everything in Cricket and we need to hammer them as an Aussie attack without* 'Gary' looks vulnerable and unbalanced.
Let's be on a Desmond going into the last; Weather permitting!
*Nathan Lyon around 500 test wickets and 23 fifers. Coming after the genius that was Shane Warne, Lyon will never get the credit he deserves.

Just a smidgen faster than Stokes and Bairstow although I suspect if they had put on 1 more run the second 200 would have been quicker. That was brutal, yesterday seemed more controlled?
What do we need from today? Bat until we're all out and then try and bowl them out over 2 days impacted by weather, and if it gets that far a t20 style batting approach at the end?

I suspect we will want at least 3 sessions to bowl them out and 2 of them have to be today. I would be surprised if we bat past lunch. I think if Root hadn't got out when and how he did last night I think we would be bowling by now.
Got a horrible feeling that the Aussies are gonna bat for a draw and will end the final day 7/8 down.
Aussies normally try to win 5 nil but they were 2 nil up and Australia have had a defensive mindset since. Australia knew the teams were evenly matched but they lost their premier spinner and the new kid they didn't trust to play more than one test.
They are 2-1 up and unless we can beat them up today we have limited time left because of nature.
Could someone put the score up occasionally as this is the option of keeping in touch in Stockholm at the moment on an American cruise ship and for dome unknown reason won’t show it😀. Thank you.

Cummins has probably had better days as Captain.
The Aussie commentator that is.
