Who had Anderson as having the highest strike rate of the innings?

Absolutely criminal they've let us up to 280.

Everyone except Crawley reached double figures in the innings, which suggests it's not that hard to bat out there.

    Gone.

    Tea.

Aussies need 281, 1 less than they did in 2005.

    Then they only got 279.

    2023 406 on day one

2005 Australia get 279 in the 4th innings.
    2023 Australia get ??????

Whether it is down to throwing away runs in the 1st innings declaring, or not building on starts - its criminal they are not chasing 330 or so.
  • When I watch the team I support batting, I always want another 50 runs, and when my team is bowling, I always want another two wickets. I think we have a chance of defending 280, but 50 more would feel much better. I will be bitterly disappointed if we go one down in the series after this game.

If we don’t get a wicket that is a bollox declaration.

When the Aussies need 30-40 runs to win with 6 down we are gonna regret that.

Man I hope I am wrong, but another 30 runs would make a world of difference

30 more runs would have made me a lot more comfortable. Just feels like this chase is well within the Aussies reach even if we do get some weather delays.

England score 666 across their two innings. That’s the most we’ve scored in an Ashes Test since Cardiff 2015.

A chunk of time taken out of the game too, if England had continued until say 11:45 on Saturday. As it is Australia should have enough time to make the target without having to "Bazball" their batting, unless the weather is horrendous tomorrow.

Feels light to me, by what the last two wickets might have made in the first innings, which seemed likely the moment they declared, so let's all hope I'm talking shite. The good news is that it wouldn't be the first time, so it ought to be game on 🤞

The way some are going on, if the Aussies don’t win by 10 wickets they will fail.

Think it’s pretty balanced to be honest
  • I would like another 20 runs on the board, but 280 is a decent 4th innings target  Close game, great test match

We set them too many in 2005. Thankfully we've set them a slightly lower target this time, so it might be a more exciting finish.

Just listen to Sangakkara - Bairstow's weight is on his right leg to get the one going down the leg side so he can't spring and dive to take one on the outside edge. The other thing is that it is a while since Bairstow and Root stood next to each other. Root would know that Foakes would go for that each and every time.

Anderson takes the edge of Khawaja but it goes straight through the middle of keeper and first slip. Bairstow has to go for those

Bairstow should have gone for that

I have the tv on mute because I'm working. Looked up to see Broad celebrating Warner's wicket......replay of the first innings

We've been very generous with our extras. Australia gave us 19 of which 4 were no balls in England's two innings and we have already given them 26 of which 17 have been no balls and they have only just started their second innings. That is almost like playing against 12 batsmen and also doesn't take into account the occasions when we overstep when "taking" a wicket such as Broad to Green.

Hate that. Worst thing is when they do a replay with sound in real time and it’s from an earlier wicket. I’ll have the tv on in the background and will only perk up when I hear a celebration/appeal.
