Wasn't his first ever match at The Valley? He did a talk at a screening of a Charlton film years ago at the Greenwich Picturehouse. Seemed like a lovely man.
Dickie Davies this week, Motty today... hope someone's checked in on Des Lynam.

Yes his dad took him to the Valley....just mentioned this on R5L.
Devastating. RIP Motty. Think my favourite Motty moment is David Beckham's equaliser against Greece: as it focused on Beckham and then Ericsson he said "and he deserves it and he's a lucky manager, because David Beckham has pretty much beaten Greece on his own"... the way he riffed off the camera at the time and captured the moment was incredible.
I had the immense pleasure of his company in a box at Cheltenham about 25 years or so ago (he loved his racing) and he was absolutely charming - witty, self-effacing and wanting to hear what others had to say rather than wanting others to listen to him. Quite ironic as we all grew up listening to him!
