This will probably get deleted by the mods but I am absolutely fuming and not because I care about Gary Linkear
1) He is a sports presenter so as I understand it hasn't broken impartiality rules as they don't apply in his case.
2) What he said was 100% on the money. We are approaching Enoch Powell territory but no one seems to give a shit
3) The BBC are actively caving to right wing populism. Combine this with the the shit that gets printed by Murdoch press and all the social media fake news, what chance do we have.
Seems tolerance, compassion and general decency are truly a thing of the past.
Why would you think this would be deleted by the mods? What you say is 100% valid.
Tomorrow's MOTD will either be cancelled or it will go ahead with just highlights merging into the next with a caption - and nothing else. Whoever agreed to present it would carry that for the rest of their careers.
The thing about the Attenborough decision; even if you take out the rights and wrongs behind the motive, why have they spent so much money producing an episode that can only be viewed on iplayer? Is that a good use of money?
Syndication rights etc if it's sold on to America etc.
But their primary role is to make programmes for the UK public who fund them. Flogging their programmes around the world is secondary to that.
Anyway, cant see the rest of the world being too fussed about a UK centric programme.
Does MOTD even need presenters? I always fast forward through the punditry.
I think that tomorrow's MOTD may well have no presenters and just highlights with post match interviews. Who, seriously, with an ounce of belief in free speech and the same rules being applied to everyone be they Lineker or Sugar, is going to take the job?

Fiona Bruce is going to present it with Ryan Giggs doing the punditry

Could be the future. The endless inane analysis / drawing of lines etc isn’t really very interesting anyway.
Does anyone (on any channel) really hang on the views of these pundits?

I must admit the thought did occur to me that it might turn into a bit of turkeys voting for Christmas from the pundits on this... I think a lot of people might prefer some longer extended highlights in place of analysis.
After seeing Lineker on yesterdays news being escorted to his car by a bloke holding and umberela so he did not get wet, whilst the woman with him walked to the car without any protection. They must have walked all a 10yards. Pretentious prick.
As a general principle I am all for 'Freedom of Speech' but, that said, the BBC is supposed to be impartial and its highest paid presenter presumably has a duty to appear impartial too.
I don't recall this public outcry when Lineker was tweeting and generally supporting the REMAIN cause prior to the EU Referendum to quote one example.
Maybe Lineker has stepped out of line once too often given his prestigious role as mentioned above.
Or perhaps Godwin's rule has come into play.
The fact that it was all over the front page of The Daily Mail put it more in the public eye. The BBC were probably inundated with complaints with all the old geezers when they got back from their morning stroll to pick up their daily dose of toxicity from the local shop.

Wasn't intended as a dig at the mods who do a great job, was more that it's overtly political.

Campbell has been ripping them apart all week. Love it.
To be fair it was a perfectly legitimate point to make. I'm sure Campbell would support Lineker anyway, but he also has a direct commercial relationship with him, so it wouldn't have been correct to not mention it.

And it’s more important to mention the boss of the BBC has given Boris Johnson money.
The thing about this is Lineker has never hidden his political beliefs before and has regularly tweeted about them. Clearly the Nazi connotations of this latest one are deemed a step too far for those up the hierarchy.
Personally find him the worst thing on MOTD but this is all way OTT. Plus side for Lineker is he can spend a night off looking at himself in the mirror.
There are two separate issues here. One concerning whether you agree with Lineker's opinions or not (or indeed the Government's plan).
The other though is about free speech, and how much a notable BBC name, but not a journalist can say. Off air. Worth noting that Jeremy Clarkson has tweeted support for Lineker and Ian Wright's boycott.
The question I would ask the BBC bigwigs, is that if Lineker had tweeted support for the government, would they still have suspended him for expressing political views?
