How much of it is technical ability and how much is it better reading of the game, decision making, composure etc? Our other midfielders have their own weaknesses, I don’t agree that it’s as simple as he shouldn’t start. Not every academy player will be a PL star of the future (copyright Katrien Meire), other hard working reliable players like Wagstaff, Cousins, Wilson and Lapslie played their part for us in successful seasons. As long as we’re not overly reliant on players like Anderson and Kanu it’s got to be better than paying a lot more on wages to sign another Tennai Watson who’s not much better but has no real potential to play at a higher level.0 -
Yeah, my issue with Karoy is his decision-making, he just seems in a rush when on the ball, all the dynamic stuff he does is great, just that bit of quality on the ball is what's lacking for me10

Obviously, he is playing against older and better opposition and being asked to play a different game than he did before and maybe he'll never be as fluid with his passing as he was when younger but he is still young.
If he has a career similar to Prately, who played mainly in the Championship and a few seasons in the Premier League and is still going strong at 38 or whoever old he is now, he will have done very well for himself.2 -

Thought he was still tidy and tried to be progressive in his passing when he got on the ball which is his job.4

I thought he did alright but he's not match fit. His play/passing continues to be more probing than Coventry's.9

Thought he did ok, was really the only midfielder trying to push forward with the ball and attempt a forward pass. Was clear when he went off and Coventry started to get more of the ball that we started going backwards and sideways more. It almost looks like CC doesn't pass hard/incisively enough when he plays the ball forward...3

I thought he did okay last night, I would like him to stamp his mark on the game more, as I feel he is that type of player, I can't see any reason why him and CC can't work together. CC prob had his worse game in a Charlton shirt last night, sometimes you just have a stinker, and what ever you do doesn't come off.1

To be fair to Coventry, he was involved in a lovely bit of interplay on the edge of the box that should have led to a goal if Godden had shown a little more composure. That was probably the most spark we showed all game and the work for the chance came from him3

Bit random but I bumped into Terry Taylors dad at the game, felt like a bit of a James Bond movie scene as he is quite a strapping bloke and looked at me and said 'We must stop meeting like this Charlie' in his strong Scottish accent.
Anyway, lovely bloke, his wife is lovely too*. Just said Taylor needs time to settle as he's obviously been out for a while. I still have high hopes for Terry here, and as his family are so nice, got a bit of a soft spot/bias.
Another decent game I thought and feel like he's done enough to earn another start.
To be a bit less biased, I think he's fortunate that our other midfielders aren't performing, as I don't reckon he was part of Jones plans. Sometimes things like this just work out like that in football though, similar to Corey's situation when we signed him. Hopefully Terry will go on to make a similar impact but with a happier ending.19 - Sponsored links:

His set pieces have played a key contribution to a few of our goals, as well as solid all-around contributions.
Simply put.....he creates chances, so you'd be a fool to drop him in a team that does not create too many openings over the course of a game.13 -
He should start every game. Our best midfielder, in very good form, and his set pieces are wicked and he and Coventry work well together. It seems so obvious to me.13

I think we might sell him if an ok offer comes in which would be a real shame. He should be starting regularly for us but I fear his cameos will spark enough interest elsewhere for us to cash in in Jan.0

I think Terry Taylor is a good reminder that players can take a while to get going at new clubs. If you go back through some of the threads from last season he received some really harsh criticism and was at the top of a lot of people's sell lists. He got similar treatment that McGrandles got before that and that the likes of Ahadme and others have got this season. Now though he's one of the favourites and is seen as one of our best players this season. It's not the same for every player but sometimes a bit of patience while they settle and adapt is needed.

Right now i'd have him as one of the first names on the teamsheet. Very good point, McGrandles was never that bad but suffered injuries that stopped him impressing, there were people on here declaring he was shit without seeing him play more than two or three games. Whatever we think, it's worth remembering that players read social media and they pick up on the vibe from fans, poor bloke couldn't wait to get out of here and I don't blame him. Sadly the same treatment is being handed out to Ahadme and Anderson, in Anderson's case, he's just a kid learning the game, as for Ahadme, older supporters will remember Matt Tees or John Pearson, I wonder how many goals they would have got if we didn't cross the ball to them.Garrymanilow said:I think Terry Taylor is a good reminder that players can take a while to get going at new clubs. Taylor is clearly a very good footballer. has to be in our team regularly. it might mean that coventry becomes the more advanced ball playing midfielder we have been missing. I'd preserve with anderson as he will learn and improve and he has some good physical and technical attributeskills, he's just a bit inconsistent at times which is to be expected from a young player. Berry or doch then for the other spot. I haven't seen enough from Campbell A to see him as a starter. I also think we need to find a place for TC hes got so much ability and will be a really good player3

As football is now a 16 man game if you utilise the 5 subs then the business end of a game from 65 minutes on can be as important as the starting line up IF you have game changers from the bench.4

I can answer that question. There is a poster on here, who doesn't live too far from where McGrandles went to and arrived from, who declared that he could tell a player was going to be shit after Five games, now I'm not knocking that but why the hell is that poster not coaching down at Charlton or for that matter in the England set up, the man is an undiscovered genius.Hal1x said:

Is the best midfield combo we have, technically speaking. However due to his pressing Anderson will be in there instead of one of them, and unfortunately for us and him our captain has been nowhere near the levels required so far, and whilst Berry shows flashes of excellence, his name is tarnished slightly by the abject performances he's put up in the recent cup games.
I still think the priority in January needs to be a proper attacking midfielder, one with goals and assists to his name1 -
Couple of decent shots yesterday - good run in the team and I reckon he'll start scoring a few as well given how we'll he strikes the ball2
