Please not Powell …would be the worst choice
Wow Ronnie finally offers an original thought and somehow it's even more stupid than his usual recycled, copy and paste nonsense.

Not necessarily the worst but it wouldn't be good. Having done brilliantly with you first time round he's failed everywhere else. It would be a shame to tarnish his reputation at The Valley.
  • The squad Powell had for that 2011-2012 season had experience throughout it, this squad does not. Leaders who could take his message and lift other players in the group, this squad has maybe 2-3 of those types max (Hector, Dobson & May)

5 of our starting 11 played over 40 L1 games that season, 3 of which were in our back 4, we are miles away from having that sort of settled defence. Which is a cornerstone to CP's set up.

There are some areas where you can see him being able to work with it, such as Leaburn & May being a workable partnership he could mould in a Yann & BWP style.

I just can't see it being viable unless he gets assurances he can bring his own players in..... and the time for that has gone.

Offering him it as interim first is hardly going to give him confidence that he’s the man they want and won’t discard him at the first sign of trouble.

Another own goal to add to the list for the new regime

Just a bit curious as to WHY this lot want Powell so much. He hasn't been a manager for 4 years and apart from with us didn't pull up any trees elsewhere. Purely to get fans onside presumably?

My only concern with Powell is how well does he know league 1 and how well does he know the current squad. That’s probably the only area he is weaker than the other names mentioned

Why do I get the feeling the Powell stuff is just another ‘we tried…’ a la Nombe / JCH

I think if you spend years working in the England and Tottenham set ups you probably learn a lot and develop as a coach/manager. This will be a new and improved Powell hopefully

Because fans will be a lot more patient with Sir Chris at the helm...

But i think we can all see now and have to accept this isnt a quick fix just like the last time he came in he needed till the summer to change things

If powell is backed sensibly and given time to build then im all for it

he has until january to see what they are made of and make decisions on players and then can go into it and get who he wants

Its all ifs and buts but hopefully he will hear what he wants to from the SMT and it goes well🤞🏻🤞🏻

    Great!

Both Powell and Bowyer are ingrained in that certain Charlton ethos, a thin veneer of promise, short term optimism and fleeting success leading inevitably to mediocrity, ultimately hamstrung into underacheivement and fan resentment by shit foolish short sighted ownership.

Get either of them back, then it's buisness a usual ...  This new lot, they aren't shaping up to anything different than we have seen before!

I love Powelly as much as the next person, but we need someone who is ‘current’ and knows the modern game, he hasn’t managed since 2019, wrong choice in my opinion

Chris Powell looking a cert if he wants it. All depends on how much, initially only being offered it on an interim basis has put him off.

    👀👀
This makes no sense. Can't call it a cert when there's all those variables that haven't been sorted

Was Andy Scott the Brentford manager in the 2011/12 season? He would of seen the job Powell done that year.

He’s been involved in the England set up and at Spurs for a while, not some pundit on Talksport who hasn’t taken a session in their lives

The thing to remember about Powell is a high % of the players we signed that summer had played with, or against, Powell very recently and had basically spent half a season watching the rest play against us.

You could argue that he has the best CV of late than others mentioned. International and around a premier league club.

It seems the new lot are looking to blood in youngsters so with Powells recent experience in youth football could make him an attractive option along with his popularity among fans.

There’s nothing to say Neil Redfearn can’t come in alongside Dobson and be that late runner into the box and goalscoring midfielder we so desperately crave

He'll have to become our technical director first, so that he can then appoint himself as manager.
  • I’m confident that it’s not true at this point that the club have gone back to Chris Powell. If people are being briefed otherwise then they should doubt the integrity of their sources.
So your source is right everyone else's source is wrong?

I do not believe that powell is in the running, or bowyer. We will end up with Appleton or Johnson in my opinion but you do come across as very rude and abrupt sometimes

Is there any truth in the rumour that Holden was paid £500k to go?

If it is true, it makes no sense for them to now employ someone with no pedigree and on peanuts.

Or is £500k no a lot of money in League 1 manager's compo terms, these days?

Why are you posting this on this site?
If you want to slag the bloke off at least be brave enough to do it directly to him, after all, you are obviously on that site.

Yeh he’s only been to the Euro final and World Cup with England but apart from that.
