I’ve seen it mentioned a few times that this is a 3 window project. I’m not sure if that has been said by one of the management team, but if it has, as a manager I’d want a guarantee I’m here at the end of those windows. The only break I’d give them was if the team gets relegated. Then you have the stability and the time to put this together. Anything less than that is just wishful thinking.
No disrespect intended to Dubai or Damo, but if this is being briefed by someone in a position to know, directly or indirectly, I am confident they are not telling the truth.
Todd’sRightHook will melt when he sees this shocking and outrageous rudeness.
And why not? he appears to have written himself off fairly clearly.
No. He wrote himself off to be a caretaker. Big difference. No idea if he is interested, but it doesn't mean he is writing himself out of the job on a full term basis.
I hoped @DubaiCAFC had a bit more than this, but clearly not.
If the market knows you have a full time job on offer, the only sensible time when you suggest an interim role is if you believe the candidate is under-qualified. Quite patently Powell is at least as qualified as any of the clowns being discussed here. After all none of them have led a team to the League One title with 101 points, and this with just six months previous experience.
Chris Powell strikes me as a man of enormous dignity, full of respect for others and for himself. He was grieviously mis-treated by Duchatelet, and for sure has heard an awful lot about Charlie Methven.
I daresay he has also not forgotten the title of a long thread on here by all those wonderful Charlton fans : “Powell’s football is terrible”.
From what I have heard today, we have gone back in for him.. Was a bit of a mistake I believe offering Interim role, and as you say Powell is a man of integrity, so let see what plays out, I understand he is the first choice.. If it happens is a different matter!
Charlie Big Potatoes “Chris, it’s Charlie Big Potatoes here. Sort of owner these days of your old mucker Charlton. Shall I call you Chris, or can I call you Powelly, or Pow Wow, or Powell to the People hahahaha”
Chris “Chris”
Charlie Big Potatoes “Smashing. Ok, Powe err Chris, now have I got an offer foooooooor you. How would you like muchly to be… the interim manager of Charlton Athletic?”
Chris “No thank you, I’m not interested in an interim role at present, only permanent ones”
Charlie Big Potatoes “Splendid, Great to know and good for you. Well don’t go off the line just yet as I’ve had another role just come into the system that I must say, might be right up your street. How would you like to be…. the permanent manager of Charlton Athletic?”
Some people on here have said that Bowyer should not be manager because apparently he upset some of our players last time with harsh words. That would never do. I surely couldn't imagine the likes of Alex Ferguson or Brian Clough doing anything so dastardly!
It's laughable isn't it. Plenty of our fans would have no doubt called for their sacking. NB It was said Holden was throwing things round the dressing room at Oxford (don't know if true).

Tactics board got the treatment IIRC. Here you go mate as reported in the Times but it’s behind a paywall;
7 Apr 2023 — When Charlton Athletic were losing at half-time against Oxford United in Dean ... “The tactics board got snapped in half,” Holden recalls.
There's no one in the game I respect more than Chris Powell, and that promotion season was just magic - like being a kid again. And I'm still not over how the Spivs and Roland cut short what he was building at the club.
But I don't know if he'd be a success under this set up. A key part of his success was bringing in players with the right character, and I'm not sure he'd have the level of input over transfers that he'd need to build a squad like he did before, let alone the financial backing.
Also, he had a fantastic coaching and recruitment team around him last time, and they won't all be coming back (I think three of them are currently working at top flight clubs). I believe Alex Dyer is out of work at the moment, so he might be interested, and I'm sure he'd love to work with Powell again, but he might also see League One as a backwards step.
I'd absolutely love for Powell to come back and finish what he started, but I'd hate for him to come back and not get the backing he deserves.

Holden said it himself in the post-match interview that he put his foot through the tactics board. He also said that you can't go mental more than twice a season or you lose the player's respect, which may have been where LB went wrong.
Still, the allegations of LB bullying were, and still are, total speculation.
At this point, why would anyone be against Powell? It isn't even about his tactics any more. He's a totem, a giant, a man who commands the instant respect of everyone connected with our club, and he left us with his honour intact. Sure we'd probably play some sort of dour safety-first style away from home and put an emphasis on being hard to beat, and sure he'd be outmanouevred by younger coaches now and again, but he's Chris Powell ffs. We need something to lift us.
I'd be okay with Powell, but the idea don't get me as excited as some to be totally honest.
Blimey, I can't get 'excited' about any of the supposed candidates! Just about raising the will power to go on Saturday.
Charlton’s Interim Manager Jason Pearce wants to put his stamp on the team during his time in charge.
Pearce played 175 times for the Addicks between 2016 and his retirement in 2022, lifting the League One play-off trophy at Wembley in 2019.
The former Charlton captain is set to take charge of
Saturday’s home game against Fleetwood Town while a thorough recruitment
process for the permanent Head Coach position continues.
Club chairman James Rodwell and Technical Director Andy
Scott are interviewing a shortlist of potential candidates - some in
work and some out of work - today and tomorrow, leaving Pearce focused
on getting the best out of his team on Saturday.
He explained: “My thoughts were to go in, as I did as
player, and give 100% to help the team. I’ll make sure the team gives
everything and that the players leave everything out there on the pitch.
“I want to get the team playing how I know the fans want
us to play and I’ll look to implement that onto the group. I know quite a
lot of the players through playing with them, some I’ve coached and
some may not know who I am.
“There was a conversation with the staff and players [on
Monday] and I had to prepare a speech, which hopefully came across
alright. The players have been really receptive which has been good.”
The 35-year-old joined the club’s academy coaching staff following his retirement and was promoted to Senior Professional Development Phase Lead Coach
in May after impressing Academy Director Steve Avory in a successful
season. He was assistant to Anthony Hayes during the latter’s time as
Caretaker Manager in December.
Pearce took training with the men’s first-team on Monday morning and has been pleased with what he has seen.
“There has been a really positive vibe at training,” he
said. “Over the next few days we’ll be working on the way I’d like us to
play. On Thursday, we’ll look at Fleetwood in possession and what we do
out of possession. It is important we have a clear plan of what we do
with and without the ball.”
Pearce explained that taking charge on Saturday at The Valley will be a proud moment, given his long association with the club.
“I have had visions of that moment before, but I didn’t
see it happening so soon, to be honest,” he said. “It will be a
fantastic moment personally for me and for my family. To go from a
player, to captain, to managing the team does make me proud. It’s a
fantastic opportunity and I just want to do the best I can for the
staff, players and the fans.”
Pearce, who is being assisted by Hayes, has been joined
at the club by former Charlton goalkeeper Stephen Henderson, who has
come in to coach the goalkeepers until a permanent Goalkeeper Coach is
appointed.
End of the day if we’re working with shirt buttons how much does it really matter who we get in next. Everyone of them Adkins, Garner, Holden we ripped to shreds in here and some of it warranted, but they all had insufficient resources to mount a real promotion push.
You’ve gotta get the loans right, bowyer did that better than the rest. Hence why I was a tad excited this time yesterday. One thing we can all agree on, it’s a shit time to support us.
I love Powelly as much as the next person, but we need someone who is ‘current’ and knows the modern game, he hasn’t managed since 2019, wrong choice in my opinion
England coach and then at Spurs Academy & you think he doesn't know the modern game?
The in work bit is what surprises me , I'm wondering if there's maybe some PL2/academy type managers in that group. Because beyond Mark Bonner I'm struggling with names of in work managers that would be of interest.

Wild of Barrow has been mentioned in a couple of articles
I don’t want another young project type coach, they are long term appointments, we clearly haven’t got the patience for that. I want someone who’s been there and done it, this league makes me sick.

Pete Wilds name comes up with a lot of League 1 vacancies it seems. I don't honestly know a whole lot about him bar his stint at Oldham when he was thrown in at the deep end from their academy and won at Fulham in the FA Cup.

Because in amongst the bonkersness of Charlton, social media, and life in general, over the last 8 years many Charlton fans have developed an unhealthy hobby of hating other Charlton fans.
If some like X then others will automatically oppose X. We’d get it with a Bowyer appointment and we’d get it even more with Powell. It’s weird but it’s just how it is.
We are a struggling third tier football club. We are not going to get the perfect manager.
Doesn't sound like Jason will be in the running for the job on a Permanent basis, at least not at this moment in time - If it drags on, and he does well, that might change
I would take Bowyer if it were plausible for the club on the basis that he’s
- played at the highest level of the game and can probably add something to the likes of Dobson, Taylor, Camara’s and Fraser’s game - he’s always been driven to succeed. That can work against him, but in the main he’s got all the characteristics of a winner - he may have learnt from recent experiences when it comes to blaming players and lashing out and has changed his approach to man management - he knows the club, the fans and our history
I would take Powell as well for similar reasons, and I don’t think how it ended for either of them was a fair reflection on the amount of crap they had to both put up with behind the scenes. Powell with Duchatelet after managing the team on fumes because of the withdrawal of funds from the spivs, and Bowyer for having to sit there with a straight face when dealing with Southall and then again for working with TS after it emerged how egotistical he was.
based on what’s been said on here, Powell may be more likely, but both of them are probably looking at it from the outside in and based on recent experiences, thinking ‘what’s the point?’. Powell is in his 50s, has a great reputation as a coach and can get work. Sentiment aside, this would be a big ask with another group of unknown owners and senior figures who may still well turn out to be cowboys
After that, we’re in the League One version of Pardew, Pullis, McLaren etc. I don’t have anything against the Cowleys, I think their record is pretty decent, but they strike me as having reached the peak of their managerial career and we’re catching them on the way down.
Appleton for me would be a big mistake. As it would another Garner or Holden. Unfortunately this is the pond we swim in now, but it does seem as though we’re going round in ever decreasing circles. I can’t judge this ownership yet, but it’s been a bad start, you can’t argue that. One win in 6 games, a manager who was their guy in Jan, sacked, some okay signings but what, a day to add 3 or 4 real quality players to turn this team around.
I really thought in my gut that in the short term at least, after Orient and seeing May and Camara, maybe it might be okay. It still might, but imo the new mob have made a shocking start and we’ve got the same old problems
