  • I notice Wrexham have just signed Steve Fletcher. They are turning into Dads Army.
  • Fletcher probably isn't too bad as a stopgap until they have Mullin back. Although I didn't actually know he was still playing

He’s 36 and hasnt done much for a few years now. Like Foster a big name on his last legs.
  • I spoke with Charlie earlier today and his exact words were this

  • He followed up by saying we paid 200k for Tayo, 150k comp for Taylor and they paid for May which was 250k, so net spend 600k.

What did he have to say to that then ?
  • As above
  • Should I add you should ignore my vendetta with CBT, My son and brother in law have informed me I have an illness, apparently I hate all flair players and wingers 🤷‍♂️🙈🤣

    Looks like LinkedIn
  • so not info put out there by Charlie and his pals to curry favour with the fans. As someone else said previously Cawley does have other sources.
    Three different clubs.

Are all the players of one agent, I don't know but doubt it.

RC obviously has different contacts in the football world and I believe him when he says he found out from other source than the club.

The other source or sources though I would suspect got the info passed on from one source in the club.  It is to much of a coincidence that 3 different clubs/players info on possible bids turned down come to light on the day a new manager (not a popular choice with fans) is announced.

My real concern would be, as has been suggested by others, that they are prepping fans for a January sale.

Either way regardless of the last point it smacks of timely PR and who specialises in that.
    Bloody hell.

Rich says his source is not from inside the club and people still don’t believe him, preferring to invent a warped reality where RC is getting second hand info and Charlie Methven is some master puppeteer.

I think Rich would be insulted by the suggestion that he doesn’t properly vet his sources.
I said the complete opposite to what you are saying. Try reading it again.

  • They didn't pay for Edun
    Spin
    Spin
    Spin

We didn't have the highest net spend either

    Total bollocks

  • It was a reported "undisclosed fee" paid for Tayo Edun.

You also think that Dobson is the best CDM in the division, I assume you have watch them all, multiple times? 😉

    Thanks for sharing.

If we had lost Dobson to Wrexham I would have divorced football.

Slightly suspicious of this story though, smacks a bit of “look - things aren’t as bad as they could have been”.
High risk if made up. Can you imagine the meltdown if the other clubs denied it!
Because the press never print stuff that doesn't happen. I work in PR and the amount of genuine fake news is HIGH, very HIGH.

I’m not saying the earth is flat but how do you explain all the people in Australia not falling off the planet?

Charlton Athletic knocked back bids at the end of last week for

    George Dobson - Wrexham
Corey Blackett Taylor - Derby County
Miles Leaburn - Unknown German Club and Unknown championship team

Dobson and CBT contracts expire at the end of this season.

I would call this article as total bull****.  Unless a report supplies a quote I turn the page and ignore.
  • do we have to see conspiracy in every bit of press coverage?
    Why, what have you heard?

Correct, he was a freebie but with a sell on clause attached to the deal.

I've not checked every other club in L1 to see how we compare, but it's definitely true that we had a reasonable net spend this summer when it comes to transfer fees.

If they'd bought JCH on deadline day, the numbers for Bristol Rovers would have been interesting.
  • Fair play if they did turn down bids of millions for Leaburn, the other two are nothing to really crow about, if we have serious aspirations we should not have to worry about selling two of our best players to a League 1 rival and a team in the divison below, which is what Wrexham are despite the Disney+ star power.

Hopefully now that the transfer window is shut they are now offering all three players competitive contract extensions.

JCHs move to Bristol Rovers fell through

Honestly, what a load PR cobblers. Hot news, the club did nothing - but I bet you like us for it.
But it’s what any of us would do if we were head of comms at the club. Why would you not? They turned down cash. Obviously they’d have been mad to sell any of them, but to the less knowledgeable fan at least, it’s good news nonetheless.
I can assure you this won’t have been an initiative from the head of comms at Charlton.

As for Charlie’s figures, let’s see what the net spend is after the January transfer window and at the end of the financial year.
  • So they have 4 months to find replacements in January when we let them go.
    This.

As well as knowing if they had let any of them leave without a replacement AND then the team lost the next day the ground would have toxic.

Even Methven & Co aren't that stupid.

I know a lot of Rovers fans are sceptical about if they were ever really going to sign him. He would have been  double their current  record signing. Ended up selling a forward and bringing no one in . Imagine the meltdown if that happened here and hearing we didn’t quite get it over the line.

If you listen to the McAnthony podcast sounds like they were - but mucked up
  • On that point, what does CM expect to need to spend to replace Dobbo and CBT, like for like, in the expected January sales? Surely to buy equivalent and put them under contract will be a fair bit more than we could possibly hope to receive. Would it therfore not be prudent to give them a better deal and tie them down, hence being able to get a fee later.
