At least one year too late. Maybe more?

But good luck Big Man. Thanks for the memories - even if some of them seem a bit warped by time, going by the comments on here.

At least this may now, finally, put this "debate" to bed.
He has been hugely valuable in getting us points this season so not a year too late. Without him coming on in the games he had we would not have got a play off spot.

It was the right decision and his power is fading but he has been a very useful finisher for us this year even if he hasn't got the goals he's got previously.

All the best Chuks, so pleased you have been part of our club folklore
Slightly OTT.  He’s been an unreliable player in some of our worst ever seasons .  One good year and 5 where he’s not done much.  I don’t doubt he’s a lovely bloke and has huge talent , which he sadly hasn’t been able to fulfil- not his fault but true.
Not at all. He will be remembered at the club for far longer than many others.

We all loved it when he came on in games as a sub, hoping for everything but never knowing quite what would happen.

Despite his form and injuries, he will be discussed more than innumerable others who have gone through our books.

Part of CAFC folklore? No doubt.
    4 goals in 4 seasons.

He’ll be more memorable than Bogle , Ahadme and many others , I don’t doubt that.  Maybe you’re not old enough to remember Hunt, Mendonca, Darren Bent, Kermorgant .

I’m not knocking Chuks - he’s a nice guy and did an ok job , but spent a lot of time injured and I wouldn’t have brought him back when we did .

But also our third highest assister this season with 5, only 1 behind the top 2 and in around 3,000 fewer minutes and zero starts. He was involved in a goal every 113 minutes or so, that's why he's a Charlton folklore figure, during some of our lowest ebbs he was always able to raise the temperature and make people believe something could happen. No-one saying he's one of our best players ever but you don't have to be to be a cult hero
Fair enough .  I prefer players to start 35 games a season , but I get what you’re saying .

Despite all of his physical frailties I'd say that Chuks has been my favourite player since I got a season ticket in 2016.

Oh he is, he is 🤣.

You have to take into account the absolute mayhem his mere presence caused, especially in the opposing penalty box. We didn't see so much of it this season but I couldn't believe how he could somehow steamroller through a crowded box with the ball at his feet.  That produced goals for others and generally struck fear into defences that thought their job was largely done.

But I have to agree that bringing him back on such a long contract was a very bad decision.

It’s been a tragedy that Chuks has had so many injuries that have decimated his game time. A tragedy for him and a tragedy for us because a fit fully mobile Chuks was some player. Given our lowly status generally over the last few years, I think that fully fit Chuks would not have been a player we could have held onto.

When the final whistle sounded at Wembley I looked straight at him. He was down, hands on knees. I can imagine his mixture of feelings in that moment

£27.5k per annum I’d suspect it won’t be that popular.

Has anyone done the stats? How many games did we w/d/l with him coming on. How many goals did we conceed?
We all weigh up the merits of players, for me he made an important contribution to us holding out in so many games last season. Everyones entitled to their own opinion.

    Lol, I missed this pearler!

I mean, we can all make claims like that based on nothing but hunches. For example, I'm pretty sure that if Matty Godden hadn't noticed me behind the goal he would've missed that chance against Wycombe and we wouldn't have made it to Wembley.

    You're welcome.

tbf to the point Chuk's last goal was that screamer (that lost to Apter ironically enough) in a stalemate draw against Rotherham.

My little piece: I remember sitting next to him at the Aberdeen (preseason) game and loved his insight into the game and talked like a true footballing person about the structure of the team and the system the manager was playing at the time.

What do we reckon then Wycombe or Baller League?

Is it just me that thinks it's weird that he got sent off (in that 4-0 game vs Wycombe) yet could be joining them?

Can’t see any team taking a chance given his injury record, apart from non league perhaps.

He can room with Leahy on away days ala Stuart & Todd!
