Chuks

  • The way I see it he's our only target man with a particularly good first touch and any real ability to hold up the ball. That's nothing against Leaburn, as he's our main goal threat, but the ball doesn't 'stick' with our other players like it does with Chuks, and he's great at bringing people into play after he's taken it down.

Might be the Charlton hill that I die on, but IMO he's one of our best players so I don't see why anyone would want to be rid of him as an option if the wage isn't coming out of your own pocket. As long as we don't rely on his fitness and have other first-team strikers available he adds a lot when he's on the pitch.
Leaburn’s hold up play was good in the recent run of games before Saturday, but he’s still learning and possibly needs a rest. He’s still by far our best all round striker, despite his inconsistent hold up play.

I agree with what Aneke offers, but his fitness is only likely to get worse. It’s easy to say give him another year after last night, but a lot harder to justify when he spends a couple of months out injured.

Aneke coming back, I'll maintain as the worst signing in my lifetime back to '76.
No ill feeling to the guy, only the clowns agreeing to bringing him back.
Don’t think your £50 with William Hill from two weeks ago is looking great though…
Only 46 minutes in it now
Another 21 minutes that makes it 25 minutes left.

Leaburn's hold up play isn't bad, and he's improving all the time. Just doesn't quite have the touch or experience using his body to shield the ball that Chucks does... yet.

I think we all assume because of their similar size/build that they (should) play the same way.

they are 2 totally different styles of strikers IMO
  • I think it all depends on the Centre-Backs with our Striker options.

There have been games recently where Leaburn has terrorised Defences, and there have been games where Aneke hasn't looked at all effective - Reckon had Ricardo Santos been involved last night, he'd have managed Chuks better than the Defenders that Bolton had out there last night.

Recall him coming on as a sub when we drew 3-3 there last season, and he caused the same issues for them.

Both Miles and Chuks should be managed game by game though in terms of opponents

I agree that they're different styles of player, but where I think Leaburn can absolutely improve is using his frame how Chuks does to retain the ball a bit better.

He's got dimensions that Chuks doesn't have in his mobility and instinctiveness, and even how he strikes the ball, but if he can improve his touch and hold up play he could be elite.

Didn't tonight show that if Hylts is there to show Leaburn the dark arts then it hasn't worked and we should move him on and just get Aneke to do it.
When our fans say we should, move Hylton on. Do we take in to account he is apart of the N.Jones coaching staff at Charlton?

If we move him on we loose a coach as well as a player. So rather than he should be realised, we should be saying he should retire (from playing)* and stick to coaching.

*doesn't reflect my views in anyway since I find it useful that we have a coach that is on the playing books as well (and if it is a N.Jones man, well a football manager needs his own backroom staff).

funniest thing tonight was when Small got stamped on, one of their players then stated on Coventry and then shat himself as Chuks stepped in
He was also instrumental in shepherding Small away from the fracas down the other end earlier on. Definitely someone you want on your side when it's all kicking off I think.
Whether he's on your team or not, if Chuk decides to move you then generally speaking you get moved!

Good to see him stepping in though and trying to look out for Small.

I dare you, and all of those who have liked this post, to sing the  10 more years song about Chuks (if he comes on/ or starts on Saturday)

Worth an appearance weighted new contract, if he'd accept one.
I’m sure this is said in jest, but it wouldn’t surprise me if we get a few on here talking this way come the end of the season.
But I thought Dr Will had transformed our players health and fitness and we should be confident now that our players are less likely to get injured…😉🙂

Dr Will Abbot is director of performance services including the medical department, which encompasses, nutrition, sports science and Psychology.
All 3 of the above are used for Chuks Aneke but unless we employ Jesus, the status quo won't change.
I don't believe Will Abbot can perform miracles.
Maybe he can teach Chuks a few things, so (Chuks) can help out with the academy.

I think so, but he is also the biggest liability as he can’t start games and is one stretch away from being out for the rest of the season

  • And now I've got the giggles at the numerous replies to this tweet, asking if Chuks is a giant: https://x.com/CafcJake/status/1881819811669516719

  • That’s 125 players - might be a bit harsh including some of them, but we’ve definitely missed out on some filth that do deserve to be on the list so it balances out.
  • Not quoting that for obvious reasons, but my god we have had some utter schite foisted upon us.

Incredible the crap we've contributed towards the wages of!
  • I love Chuks so instead of the howl of protest one might expect, I'll say, yeah, none of these have had the positive impact he has. Ulvestad and Clarke would have been in good standing if we'd had them for longer. Of the guys I'd defend from CL brickbats while they were on staff, Inniss is the one I feel fondest for in retrospect, of course

Diawara is one of the best defenders to have played for us - not clear why he'd be listed. Took him a few games to adjust to the hoofball we were playing. Had a very impressive career in France.

The rest of the list is pretty stunning - shocking how few of them delivered.
I'm not having that. No way.

In some ways, but there are several players who are more likely to be playing Championship football in the next year than Chuks.

When you see that list of players we’ve signed in the last 10-15 years, it not a surprise we are, where we are, absolutely shocking, makes you wonder how much in wages, signing on fees, and transfer fees, that  have been wasted, ( must be many millions, on abjectness) we’ve been a charity case, maybe other clubs have their own list of failed transfers.
