Chuks

  • He hasn’t got the goals he used to get, but we’ve scored lots of goals late on with him on the pitch and that is no coincidence.

He’s gunna score a late winner in the play off final to send us up then retire, I can feel it.

  • Def likes to have a crack when he's on the pitch..!

And has converted one in 26 attempts?

Correct, he does not look the same menacing Chuks we have been used to for 20 minutes towards the final whistle.

NJ wants to build unity with the squad and fans, so this nitpicking while we're on a good run feels slightly unnecessary. He contributed well in the build up to the first goal against Orient.

I don’t think we’d have beaten Bolton and probably not Orient if we’d had Ahadme on the bench instead of Aneke. He’s not an essential to bring on every game like he once was, but he’s still useful in certain games and scenarios
Well said. When you have multiple options from the bench he is a good one to have. Wellens mentioned us bringing on Leaburn and Aneke as a big factor for our victory. Still what does he know? He is only a professional manager doing a great job. Let Jones decide who plays and who should be on the bench. Surely he has earned that position from us with our results!

Looked great in a poor poor side.
Seems to be lacking now we've gone up the gears
I think he has simply regressed as a footballer, before he could make a goal out of nothing
  • He doesn't seem the same player, it's as if he's frightened to run too fast in case he injures himself. Yesterday, I would have preferred Kanu on the bench to harass tiring defenders.

He does cause problems to opponents in the air though. It's worth noting that the presence of Chuks and Miles on the pitch on Saturday attracted Orient's best aerial markers at set pieces, and left Gillesphey and Ramsay free to score at the back post.

  • Seems he's purely on for holding up and heading now as his legs looks to have gone evident last few games when running onto a ball or space he has lost pace.
  • I dont think he has lost pace, he just.looks like he isnt going to go flat out and risk tearing a hammy. He has a contract for the next few months, he is probably hoping for a year somewhere else.

He wont be getting that from the physios bench.  I dont blame him, weve been trying to manage this ever since he joined. The only solution seems to be not using the burst of pace and power that takes you to the edge of injury, and sometomes over.

I've always been pro-Chuks but he really pissed me off a couple of games ago.

The ball broke to him in a 3 vs 1 counter attack. He had a player he could put through on goal to his left and another to his right. And instead, he opted to take on the only defender in front of him and finally hammer a stupid shot wide from 30 yards.

One of the most witless and selfish passages of play I've seen.
You mean a striker was selfish and chose to take a shot on instead of passing?

I've never seen a striker do that before.
No, it wasn't one of those typical situations you see all the time. For one thing it was about 40 yards from goal. The option was either slide one of two players in, or run at the only defender there was.

I said he shot from 30 yards... What is going on?

I've just remembered it was vs Bristol Rovers. Here's the Match thread for that moment.

I remember this. Also a Chuks fan. Also very annoyed and disappointed at the decision making there.

Yeah i agree with this and think he may be under orders not to over exert himself with runs unless he gets the nod (full jump up and down screaming order from the touch line).
  • Knowing our luck he'll break his leg and we will continue paying him beyond his contract, whilst he buys a couple more properties

  • I’m amazed how much people can tell from the relative cameo appearances on recent matches 🙂

He’s not had that many minutes and chances in recent matches in my view.

When Kanu came on for a cameo in one game he reached two passes as he was quick off the mark with the keeper doing a good save that Thierry nearly reached 1st.
Depends on the circumstances which forward comes on but we all know what we have seen recently and I don't  mean to be cynical but suddenly Chuks is available for every match with his contract into its last few months.
  • Physical attributes aside Chuks seems to be quite a popular guy in the squad, I think it was Campbell or Kanu who said he (Chuks) has given them financial advice and he seems to be something of a mentor in general.

Does that merit a place on the bench, that's debatable, but the team spirit Jones has engendered is critical to our form so maybe just having him around is part of that.

That’s because the man who sees him in training every day hasn’t given him them…

Get @golfaddick on the training ground!
  • Deserved a better career but injuries have plagued him. Not much left to offer...
  • Saw someone on another thread say that he is effectively being told from the sideline when he’s allowed to run full tilt which I think might have a lot to do with it.

Limited sample size I know but I noticed from the stream on Tuesday that when pressing/closing down his movement is a lot better and more fluid than on the ball. I think some of it is confidence and he doesn’t fully trust his body rather than losing his pace.

That's ended badly last time 🤦🏿‍♂️
  • Whereas it is true he is less effective these days, he is still worth his place on the bench and oppo defenders still seem in awe of him.
