Chuks

  • I’m amazed how much people can tell from the relative cameo appearances on recent matches 🙂

He’s not had that many minutes and chances in recent matches in my view.
But the thing with Chuks is that cameos is all he can do. He's not got the fitness to start a match so he needs to be effective coming off the bench with 10/15 minutes to go or he has nothing. Once he loses the ability to affect the game at the end against tired defenders there's nothing left in his arsenal.

Interesting seeing him with a school bro chatting about the path Chuks took compared to many of his peer group. Since the first time I saw Aneke come on as Sub and scored after 5 minutes at the covered end we knew he had talent but...

Not sure where the positivity was when Chuks had to be convinced he could start matches when Stockley was injured (20 goals in all comps)and Jayden had to convince him he would be fine along with the coaches and medics. 4.30pm was more the time he might be involved for the 3pm KO.

Stockley told me If Chuks Aneke had more confidence in his body he would've been a top Championship level striker. This was the day before JJ got the sack just after the end of the season and the thumping at Ipswich; the 4-0 as opposed to any other thumping !

Body and mind have to be in tandem as a sportsman and I wonder if Dr Will Abbott has helped or just the fact that 3 months are left on his contract?
He has had genuine physical issues(some serious concerns) but no player especially when playing 3 games a week doesn't have aches and the body being pushed to the limit.

"I would love it, really love it" if Aneke could contribute in the run in from the bench but we have a dozen games left and it's about the here and now and personally Kanu gives cafc the movement that our others forwards don't have against a tiring defence. Feel sad for Daniel that he had to labour when the team were struggling and now can't always make the bench.

The gaffer's call and we need whoever is in the 18 to be their best version; in Chuks case that was very high but just not seen enough and the jury's out if we will see it again ?
  • I dont think he has lost pace, he just.looks like he isnt going to go flat out and risk tearing a hammy. He has a contract for the next few months, he is probably hoping for a year somewhere else.

He wont be getting that from the physios bench.  I dont blame him, weve been trying to manage this ever since he joined. The only solution seems to be not using the burst of pace and power that takes you to the edge of injury, and sometomes over.
Sadly, it's hard to see a player, clearly holding back to prevent injury, attracting much interest from anyone. It's not like a player "losing their legs" but still in good shape otherwise, who can still do a job at a lower level.

Connor Wickham never got another contract after leaving us, clubs can't afford to take the risk of signing players with such poor fitness records.
  • His injury record really isn't that bad, you know.

    Aneke coming back.

No problem with him signing the contract.

I have supported us since '76 and I will maintain it is has been the worst signing in our history.

    Absolutely criminal who was responsible.

Who did you support in your many years before '76 though that's the unanswered question here.

Yeah, way worse than Amdy Faye, Yohann Thuram-Ulien, Sam Lavelle, Charlie Kirk, Scott Fraser etc.
Simon Walton, Polish Pete... that Costa Rican winger who we had to pay for years without him being able to play...

Costa Rican winger - Christian Bolanos? We never signed him in the end as he couldn’t get a work permit?

    I think it’s a Corey Gibbs/Bolanos hybrid
  • Thought he was good today. Won a lot of battles and good close control. Certainly made it easier to relieve pressure. Also played 40ish mins with no hint of (muscular) injury

Funny how we see things differently.
I thought he was poor and offered hardly anything.
He offered a lot more than leaburn
  • He did everything you could ask of him, just everyone around him offered nothing

Leaburn offered very little I agree.
    Godden should have come on.

He won 80% of his aerial duels, at that point in the game that was crucial and made a decent clearance in our box too

  • And had the best blood headgear seen in a while particularly when it rode up to create a little dome on top of his head. Constant comedy.

Ball went up to him two or three times and he was able to hold off their CBs and lay it off to get us up the pitch. Something which Leaburn and TC had been unable to do until that point.

Felt like it was more like the Chuks of old.
Agreed I felt he was a bit leggy and off the pace last couple of appearances but did well today when he came on.

Good business bringing back someone with a poor history of injuries.
  • Watched on Sky and thought Chuks did well better than recent cameos
  • Wycombe, Huddersfield and orient all losing, could be a massive point

If those scores stay that way, post them on every thread!
  • When he went down I thought that might be the last we ever see of him. Really glad it wasn't as serious as it first looked.
