New born baby and settled, no way is he moving to eastern Europe.
Could be agent talk to push Charlton into another offer.

Budapest is a beautiful city and a great place to bring up a family.

What a rubbish link to peddle out there. Why in God’s name would George want to uproot his family to play in Hungary? I am half Croatian and touristically the country has a lot to offer, but if George asked me should he be quitting to play for Zagreb or Split I would categorically advise against it. He is bringing up a young family now and in a city which has everything he could wish for, get a deal done and head down in helping CAFC out of this shite division. Some of the much needed cavalry appear to be arriving (at long last)…after all!

We currently have 6 loan players, including the mysterious Abankwah, making me wonder if there was no exit clause on either side.

The other 4 are FOUR midfielders and 1 attacking midfielder, which feels a really unbalanced use of the loan market.
Cawley said there's only no recall/return option on Camara. Abankwah is going/has gone back.

Coming in to be 3rd choice? Or is one of the others leaving
It's a weird one as he's also a youth coach at Swindon despite being relatively young. I'd guess he's third choice but with an eye to helping out Henderson in the coaching department

He's still on our books. Just back at Udinese for treatment for an injury. Like previously said presumably due to no allowance for a recall

That to me is the one of the most blatant pieces of agent bulls++t I have ever seen.

(Rapidly deletes post as Dobson signs for this Eastern European team!)

Presumably not if you don't speak Hungarian!

Ward I don't really understand the logic behind , I guess if they have concerns about Isteds knee being something that will keep him in and out of the squad?

Strange one as he’s 27 in March and hasn’t really been a regular during his whole career.

Got to be cover, but makes me wonder why when we could get an emergency loan for a GK if needed.

Think this is it. Coupled with AMB injury tendencies (although that's been fine this season) it's sensible to have someone on the books as cover. He seems happy to be cover too

In my opinion Dobbo walks into any team in this division and very probably Birmingham, QPR, Millwall and any lower half Championship team.
You’re just saying that because you have such respect for Public School boys.
  • Feels an odd one, seeing that he's been a backup keeper in L2 for the last 3 seasons. And has never played a game higher than that level either.

Looking at his Wiki page, he has a degree in journalism, so maybe he'll combine his keeper duties with writing for the matchday programme.

Or Isted is seriously crocked and/or not rated.

If we were still a proper football club we would offer George Dobson what he wants, find the money and make sure he stays.

I don't believe for one minute his contract requirements are unreasonable despite the very well informed leaks about confidential contract negotiations with the club Captain. That shows you the caliber of these charlatans. Dobson puts his body on the line game after game and they leak details of his new contract to win some brownie-points with fans. Classy!

As others have said, he is captain,  fan-favourite, player of the year twice and the only player who gives it his all even when surrounded by dross and all hope has gone.  He personifies what this team should be aspiring to in terms of energy, attitude, professionalism and commitment.

No amount of Methven-sponsored propaganda will soften the blow when he leaves. And for his sake, I hope he does. He deserves better than this lot. Much better.

Sorry to repeat the views of many others but it really pisses me off.

100% agree. Assuming that Dubai isn’t just making it up (and I don’t think he is), he is being fed information, knowing that it will go into the public domain and become ‘fact’. Even if it is fact, it’s a pretty shady way to operate.

Thats a nice bit of transfer news youve posted there, but, do you think we could ever move on from having George Dobson or not? Do you think suggesting a change is punishable by the "your'e not proper Charlton" death penalty?

I think the polarised nature of the Dobson discussion doesn’t help. It’s not a question of Dobson good/bad. Dobson isn’t suitable as the deepest midfielder charged with shielding the defence because his positional discipline and ability to snuff out danger before it happens isn’t very good. He is however a good passer, tackler and general harrying midfielder. Top teams don’t play with a destroyer in front of their defence and if they did they wouldn’t go with Dobson to do it. I’d like us to play Dobson higher up. Use his engine and his aggression to win the ball higher up the pitch while a more tactically aware midfielder dictates play from deeper. Dobson is a very good player and I hope we keep him but we could use him more effectively

I see the idea with the keeper. We have AMB who has a tendency to get crocked. Isted coming back from a long term injury where we do not know if it could have recurring issues. The younger keepers are not ready yet. A cheap alternative that does not mind being back up, that is OK if ever relied upon and can help out with some coaching of the youngsters. I see the idea, I see where they are coming from

Fairly sure he's just coming in so we have an extra body available should AMB/Isted get injured. AMB seems to get a bit streaky with injuries, Isted been out for a while and will take time to recover full I guess.

I imagine that it will be a fairly short contract.

  • Interesting to note that Ward signed for Swindon as a keeper but also 'Youth Development Phase Lead Coach'
Only 26, but wondering if we see a similar role for him here?

    Right back/winger who scores goals.

Sounds like he's available on a free now
This one deserves it's own thread.

English is widely spoken in Budapest. Most of the people from my company who went on expat assignments to Budapest (if that is where the offer is supposedly from) didn't pick up the language and enjoyed it a lot, as did their families.

It's a terrible situation for the player, surely both sides would want to formally end the loan so he can go somewhere and get some football when he's fit?

Fantastic city and he could like a king out there if he got the same wages he's on here, let alone a a bump. Would also be playing European football which he'd never have a chance to do if he stayed in England

I brought him up as a possible left footed centre back, but we have since signed Gillesphey

Can’t see it now as he seems like an alternative to Gillesphey. Unless we see him as a left back?

Swindon forums seem to believe Lewis Ward was on non contract terms and will be coming to us on a free to I would imagine this is to replace Walkers departure, can't imagine he will be on a particularly high wage packet
