Could have a team of strangers tomorrow at this rate.
I’d have Jones, May and Dobson from the beginning of the season the rest I’m not fussed about, so I’m very happy we’re gonna have a new team . Quite an exciting time to be a Charlton fan I think.
He's rubbish apparently but he's 6ft tall (just) from Peckham and he's not Hector.
Warnock rated him.. And doesn’t sound like he will be a starter. More back up, but he is a good age, played a decent amount games in the championship and has been promoted from League One, so for me jury out until see him play in a charlton shirt
Warnock rated him but did criticise the fact he couldn’t play longer than an hour.
That’s 15 mins than most of our players bother with so a positive straight away!
A few days ago Rich Cawley said Ladapo deal wasn’t happening, it was dead in the water, now it is supposedly, I won’t believe it until it’s official.
He also said that Coventry to Wednesday was still on, not doubting Rich but that proves that things can change quite quickly
There is that.. Plus he doesn't get much info from the club these days..
Because this bunch prefer to use people who are willing to be mouthpieces rather than actual journalists who will question and look to back up sources and get confirmation.
Not saying the information you get fed isn't correct but it's certainly spun a particular way and hasn't gone though the journalist rigour of something that rich would put out.
Interesting piece , didn't realise TC was out of contract at the end of the season.
Embarrassing that it took him so long to realise these things. But at least he’s on the right track now, if he can turn around our current run of form I’ll be ok with him having next season
Building the squad now reduces the job required in summer and gives us a proxy extended pre season yo see what additions and exits we need. Will also hopefully make us more attractive to further signings in summer if it looks like we're gonna be having a go and motivate the winners like May and maybe Dobson to stay.
Also signing good quality players means we're not limited to a system/ style of play should things not work out with Appleton.
That's a benefit on not giving an in situ manager carte blanche on recruitment as these days squads and signings tend to outlive them by a long time.
Will be well pleased if we get these touted signings through the door.
First transfer window for years it feels like we're actually doing something strategically with proper financial clout behind it rather than going through the motions patching up a squad with hit and hope signings.
If we carry on on this trajectory between now and August (assuming we do sign a few more this next couple if weeks) I'll be confident we will give it a good go next year.
Early days of course but nice to bask in a bit of positivity in a January transfer window and feel like we have a senior management team who know what they're doing.
Get this right and they'll have a lot of goodwill come August and Appleton's job should be a lot easier with good players at his disposal like when he took over and had aneke and leaburn and May.
I quite like the way we are looking to change.
I have become feed up over the years of trying to play with inconsistent
wingers/inside forwards.
I still believe in league one you need that physical
presence, strong tough no mucking about to grind out wins. Not playing CBT and
Tupuc or any other of the same type who look good and dangerous in spells but
lack that roll your sleeves up attitude that is needed.
Let’s not try and play like Man City, Spurs
Liverpool etc, play to get out of this league. A big man little man, hard
workers and good characters work. Earn the right to play first.

Is this formation change the one they spent 2 days before the Peterborough match working on or the one he threw together after 45 mins after the team went in 1-0 down.
I'm surprised we have offered a new contract to TC. He may prove me wrong as he is still very young but I don't see much to suggest he is better than League 2

Doesn't RC only have the opportunity & time to reach out to his contacts at the club to verify / seek a comment? Not sure how much more digging can be done when we are discussing L1 players.

If you offer them a deal at that age and they turn it down you get compensation from whoever signs him next

whatever you think of TC you need to make an offer to be eligible for any compensation in the summer. I think there’s a player in there and a loan to L2 will either show that or show that we need to cut our losses

I agree, I’m really pleased we’ve started the rebuild now, getting quality in, our seasons over, but these new players will have something to prove. Ipswich took their 21/22 form in that latter half of that season into 22/23 and hit the ground running. Hopefully we do can do the same.
Our season is not over. We can still get relegated, and we can still get enough points to make the play offs. Tomorrow is one single game worth three points.
Comments
Glad to see that Ipswich are being reminded that we need to sign one player from them per window, else the world will descend into chaos

As long as it is an attacking midfielder that is.

Just asking.....

He did though only say we were in advanced talks, so it sounds like Ikpeazu is closer to being done.
There have also been rumours we want two strikers rather than only one. Makes sense as to play two up front you need four or five options.
