I'd met a handful of people through @Ketman and @MCS and found it (and still do) confusing and not a little bit bewildering to be introduced to people "this is Steve or @charltonarsehole" from charltonlife
Thankfully my brain can usually only retain either the human name or the Internet name, rarely both however I have been lucky enough to meet people who have become real friends for life directly or indirectly joined via this website. Special mention to @Charlton Dan and his dad rest their souls who have left a big gap in a lot of our lives
And of course @AFKABartram who remains mr Charlton to me and someone I'm glad to call a friend and over the years a really sensible voice of reason and teller of some excellent bad dad jokes, an astute social commentator and the human glue that has inadvertently facilitated these friendships and remained the glue
To think for years I was dragging mates to away games who were either lapsed Charlton fans or who just fancied a trip and would be looking at groups of mates and familiar faces who I recognised but had no idea who they were but would nod to one another in pubs and concourses at places like Newcastle, Stoke, Man City, Portsmouth, Ipswich.
September 29th, 2008. I was fourteen. So that's over half my life I've been a member of this website! Guess I just squandered the first fourteen years...
Got a horrendous comments to like/lol ratio after many, many years doing the live text updates on the forum, typing up commentary back in the days when the match thread was actually vital for those who didn't have radio access outside of... well, London, really!
I was on the ‘Charltonbabes’ before that……..at least I think that was what it was called lol
Ah, yeh @KBs@KBslittlesis I was on Charltonbabes too. Got onto Babes after the original BBC606 site changed format, from it's original incarnation when anybody could post on any clubs page and engage in utter shithousery. Babes was fun and there were some really good posters on there. I think Exiled Addick and Rodney Charlton Trotter were on there. Do you remember Mackle, BobCharlton and oh gosh so many names I have forgotten. I was a different name on there, might have been SmokedAddick, or DogSzabolcs or something. Not enough footfall or membership I guess. This site though is a different level. Amazing and addictive. Can't remember when I joined, but then I can't remember much at all these days. I am sure I was about 50 when I joined Babes, now I'm bloody 70.
Oakster1 would have been a few days after this site went live, a transplant from Netaddicks (which was a very funny site if I recall, some right weirdos on there "Two Sheds " etc)....
I was originally on Glynn Jones Mailing List & of course the infamous "CIFC Mailing List"...

Thanks, I was desperately trying to remember how I stayed in touch with all things Vharlton before Charlton Life! I was also on Glynn Jones’ Mailing List before!
Thank you, AFKA and many others on here for becoming part of my Charlton life. Most of you have made it more fun, and it all helps in the darker times like now.
Aug 19 2021. Was only just 14. Now 17. Hope it makes you all feel old that some of you have been on CL, netaddicks, etc, longer than I've been alive, and I'm old enough to drive...
Did I ever tell you about the time I introduced @AFKABartram to @LoOkOuT and suggested they combine their idea for a fanzine and a website and create Charlton Life?
No, didn't think I had.

I asked the same question at work and they said, "Nothing you need worry about!"
