  • Some interesting stats from CricViz. No idea how batters performance gets factored in though
  • Just seen those figures too.

Looks like the pitch has got better from 30 overs onwards. Something to do with the ball  ???  or will Pakistan now get 400 plus & bat us out of the game.
  • The cheating is now rife  !

England (and Smith) lose 2 runs during the tea break when a ball signalled as a 6 had been reduced to a 4.

So, not only are they doctoring pitches they are now reducing our runs scored.

Surely once a score is in the book it's in the book.

    I give up.
  • That was a bit predictable because of the way Rehan bats. Hits a lovely straight 4 and then gives it the charge again the very next ball, gets nowhere near the pitch of it and is bowled

    258-9
  • Leach stumped by virtually the distance between us and Pakistan

    267 all out

Smith came in after 26.4 overs so batted the longest for the period when it was hardest to do so. He applied himself until it became easier and then made hay. That is what batting is about. Pick when and how you are going to fight your battles. Bazball is all about invention and intimidation of the opposition bowling. Sometimes, though, as we found against Australia, in that Test when we kept getting out being "happy hookers" with Lyon off the pitch injured and out of the match, we do need to learn how to play that longer game.
  • Took them aaaages to find a bit of flat line to put on that snicko review
  • Abdullah replicates the mistakes of those England batsmen that went back to a full ball and is LBW to Bashie for 14 (27). He reviews it and wastes one of Pakistan's three.

    35-1 (9.3)
  • Three reviews for the batting side is ridiculous and results in wastes of everyone's time like that

I agree especially with "Umpire's Call" on the person that calls for the review's side. Two is ample and would make batters think more carefully before automatically challenging the decision.

  • First ball after drinks, Leach comes around the wicket to Saim, bowls the ball with a bit more flight and has his man caught at short midwicket by Root

    43-2

Atkinson comes on and bowls Kamran with a beauty

    46-3

Pakistan gameplan dead on arrival when they lost the toss. Unchanged team as well, lol
    yep, dead on arrival.....
    Yep
  • Don't know what delivery the Umpire was watching there as Saud is given out caught behind but the bat didn't get within three inches of the ball. Duly reviewed and "not out".
  • Pakistan finish the day on 73-3 off 23 overs (that is, in total for both innings, four more overs than, taking into account the innings break, would ordinarily be bowled in the day)  and a deficit of 194 runs. An enthralling day's cricket with 340 runs for the loss of 13 wickets. We are marginally ahead, as things stand, but plenty to play for in this match.
  • I watched the 1st session and the last hour.
All to play for on a pitch that can be good, bad or Ugly !

Cricket is a unique sport, as at least Tennis players know Paris is clay, Wimbledon is grass and Melbourne and Flushing meadows are hard courts. You can practice accordingly.

No one was sure how this Ferguson hairdryer of a pitch would behave.
Kudos to the wee man Duckett who had to learn on the job and by his standards was circumspect.
Another 50 score and a healthy 43 test Average for Ben with 75 being his average against Pakistan.

Jamie Smith born in this Century, 2000 was a surprise pick but boy can he strike that cricket ball but also defend when necessary.

Definitely will set that alarm for 5.55 am tomorrow.
  • Who wants to predict the score at lunch (when I expect I'll get up)........

    190/5  ??

    Or

    160/7.

  • Bashir bowling well to the left handers. Found the edge 3 times in his first few overs. One chance to Smith which he failed to collect as the ball keeps low.

  • We have opened with our two principal spinners but, apart from one that found the edge off Leach that Smith couldn't get a glove on and another that beat the bat from Bashir, things have been relatively calm for the two batsmen in the first half an hour albeit with just 19 runs being scored off 9 overs

    92-3 (32)

10 overs bowled by Bashir and Leech and just 21 runs in this session.
  • For those that are catching up, as it is Friday, this first session will be two and a half hours (6.00am-8.30am) with one hour for lunch, the second session will be 90 minutes (9.30am-11.00am) and the final session 11.20am-1.20pm
  • Wicket to Bashir, Shan looking to turn the ball to leg finds a leading edge and is well caught at short gully by Pope for a very patient 26 (70)

    99-4
  • Bashir gets his reward.
    Shan c Pope b Bashir 26
    99/4
  • I can see Rizwan being a bit more proactive than the previous batsmen. Smith showed yesterday that it is possible, once you are in, to put pressure back on the bowlers and spread the field. It you don't then it can be a bit of a slow death. That, of course, could bring us wickets.

And Rizwan, with only a couple of runs to his name, launches Leach for a maximum

    112-4 (39)

The first hour was caution for the batsmen.
    In the last 10 minutes we've had a six and 2 x 4's.

Atkinson trying to make another breakthrough.
  • 50 for Saud (92)

    139-4 (44.3)
