Why can't they put £10 million on Richard Madeley at 25-1, appoint him and collect the £250 million winnings. Sack Madeley after one game, pay him off with a 'drink', buy the Valley and Sparrows Lane and have money to straighten the club out.
Now that's what I would call gambling responsibly.
Apparently the Board saw your message, put £10m on Richard Madeley, then offered him the job and he turned it down.

The board don’t all agree on Jones, so maybe not as close as some think
When you say 'board' what individuals are you referring to ? (I realise you may not be intending to be literal with that label).

I find the description on the various announcements less than claer as to who our board comprises.

It could be a combination of all/any of the below (I think):

    Managing Director: James Rodwell (Chairman)

    Group Finance Director: Ed Warrick

    Technical Director: Andy Scott

Non-Executive Director: Paul Elliott CBE MBE

    Non-Executive Director: Gavin Carter

    Sporting Director Simon Lenagan

Steve Sutherland (as member of SMT)

    PLUS the 'co-owners':

    Co-Owners:

    Gabriel Brener and family

    Joshua Friedman and family

    Warren Rosenfeld and family

    ACA Football Partners

    Munir Javeri

    Charlie Methven

    Marc Boyan

Since when has Lenegan been sporting director.. must missed that one being announced..

So he has been refereed to here as Technical Adviserhttps://www.charltonafc.com/news/global-football-partners-purchase-charlton-athletic

And here as Sporting Diretor: https://www.charltonafc.com/staff

Regardless who did you intend to refer to in your update?
So not directly employed by Charlton, he is part of GFP.

I would say it is a split on the U.K. board over Jones.
My query though was who do you understand to be the (UK) Board?

Im not being facetious I just don’t know who that set of people are in the context of deciding the manager.

One current Charlton player lives on my development as does one former player.  And a Gillingham goalie.

  • Currentl betting odds has
    Jones - Evens
    Rowett - 2/1

I know you can't rely on betting odds, but I'd be very happy if it's either of them!

This is your best and most sensible post ever.
    Brilliant.
  • Finding the Nathan Jones hate baffling to be honest! Know's the club, success at a higher level than we're at. What's not to like?

I think hate is a bit of a strong word. There are people with other favourites, but I dont see a lot of 'hating' someone or another.

I actually dont mind the thought of Rowett.... dont think it will happen, but I think he could be ok (Dowie repeat fear aside).

Henry Irving hit the nail on the head for me - Nathan Jones was successful at Luton, but had the set up and Harford. NJ wasn't successful at Stoke or Southampton. Jury's out for me whether he would be successful at Charlton or not without the type of the support he got at Luton.
  • I am not sure who feeds REAMS and Dubai (assume same person giving info to them both) but find it very odd just how much leaks from this club constantly since this mob took over.   It seems incredibly amateur and just causes upset most of the time.

It's a week since Apple's was sacked, we were massively unlikely to have appointed someone by now and no one would be too disappointed, but because of the leaks there is a risk people end up that way.

It's weird and it's unprofessional imo.

Not a dig at people passing info here and elsewhere but a dig at the source of such info.
You would hope in today’s progressive society that they could at least both cook for themselves.
  • Knew it was too good to be true that we would sign a half decent manager straight away and give ourselves half a chance of getting out of this shit. Jones will get pissed off with waiting for an answer and we will end up with someone like Appleton. Same old Charlton.

Agree with these. Why are they pissing around, leaking the whole thing posters on an internet forum? Just get it done asap. Amateur and weird to put it mildly. Just hope N Jones doesn’t get wind - he’d be within his rights to run a mile.

What another mess they're making of this, transfer window ends Thursday and still no appointment. This season isn't going to end well.

    Huddersfield odds:

    Heckingbottom 4/6
    Duff 4/1
    Eustace 8/1
    Jones 12/1

We are looking at better managers than championship clubs currently FWIW.
Odds on Johnson going there please
    Not sure but Curbs 16/1

so, Nathan Jones gets appointed tomorrow & then we scrabbling around for half a dozen of "his" players before 11pm on Thursday. Great planning guys.
Come on now let's not be silly, deals take weeks from start to finish so the idea that anyone coming in after the sacking of Appleton who would have much a say in any transfers is ridiculous thinking. Surely this manager is being appointed based on can you get us out of the shit with this bunch of players and then we'll back you in the summer.

Based on? The search for a new manager started last Wednesday. In that time the board would have had to advertise, discard the crap, approach managers, speak to agents, book interviews, reduce the short list, arrange second interviews, make an offer etc.

we are 5 working days into the process. Why would jones get pissed off?

realistically, how long would you expect the process to take?

you do realise that katrien didn't really interview 300 managers in 17!minutes.

Loads of deals get done last minute, if all parties agree deals get done quickly.

sounds like a dose of realism to me .. to give  a new man a long contract right now is probably not advisable .. so, a bit of a trial period until season's end .. I still insist that whoever (within reason of course) is appointed, we have the players to keep us up

To be fair i recall Appleton got off to a reasonable start.

Maybe we'll be a  vanguard of modern football and pioneer the "5 game manager" whereby we hire a manager for 5 games, get the new manager bounce then replace them with the next bloke for next 5 games and the bounce and keep repeating the cycle.

Worth a try. Why have one or two football brains a season when we could have ten.
