The less said about the first half the better. Charlton made hard work of even the basics and found themselves down 1-0 after 37 minutes to former academy prospect Reece Hackett-Fairchild. It was a cagey affair, but going a goal down before the half made the mood significantly worse.
Surprisingly, Alfie May was substituted on 64 mins to make way for Chuks Aneke. Not long after, Daniel Kanu made way for Freddie Ladapo. An inspired second half, though far from convincing, showed more fight than in recent weeks. Chuks Aneke lifted the mood significantly, raising the atmosphere from the Covered End, and bringing a cutting edge to the attack. Creating absolute chaos at times, his power forced through an opportunity for Ladapo, who blasted the Addicks level. The tension relieved somewhat, the Addicks pushed on. Camara and Edun came on to provide fresh legs for the final wave of attacks. Unfortunately, with Lincoln on the back foot for most of the remainder, Charlton weren’t able to find another. Still, a point is helpful and a platform on which to build.
Honours even at the Valley.

Over to you.

It's a good point if we get something out of the next 3. If we don't, it's not.35
-
Bit of a gap forming at the bottom and we are the wrong side of it.
Our squad and team is imbalanced.7 -
Would be great if we could take this last 30 minutes into our next game...
Until I look and see we're playing Bolton so that's a point if we're very lucky.3 -
Aneke. Without him we're doomed. With him we can beat anyone in this league38
-
Agree with that Croydon. We need to see what Jones can do given a month with them if not longer4

First half was dire, but a much better second half although Lincoln didn't really want to do anything. Great goal from Ladapo might silence some of the doubters and give him some confidence. The defence is still a massive concern though, honestly can't see how we'll get anything from the next 3 games as we'll probably need to score 2-3 goals just to draw.
Personally i think Jones just has to use these next 3 games to figure out his best team/formation and then we can attack things in March when we play the lower sides.

As I said on the match thread. That paper over the cracks. A schocking performance of the players.
A point helps but is not enough.with that performance Portsmouth will get their first win in ages over us.2 -

We are going to have to win one of Bolton, Pompey and Derby.Cheltenham v Port Vale this Saturday.6

The lack of communication is seriously concerning. For most of the game it was a team of individuals2

Garbage stuff really.
The only slither of saving grace is that part of me thinks they played that way today to practice for the next three where a direct approach is probably the best solution. But I think that's very optimistic of me.
Not sure how you can turn up and play like that tonight and think you are gonna win the game more than not. Created hardly anything.
Early days obvs, but that was about as bad of a game of football I've watched in ages. Just lumping it.

NJ absolutely cannot rely on Aneke staying fit. He has to find a system that works without him. Still not sure what that can be given the players we have and don't have.
The first half is what we will get without Aneke otherwise.3 -
You can trace our demise back to Andy Scott, Methven, Rodwell, uncle tom cobbley and all, not bringing in another striker to help Alfie May. As soon as we brought the physical presence of Chuks and Lapado on, then we looked like a side, sometimes route one but it meant that our shit defence had a holiday in the second half because the ball stayed up front.10

Feeling more confident after that weirdly. Aneke made the difference with his great control for the goal and hopefully Ladapo can bang a few in now. Apart from their goal we liked more solid defensively.
Subs made all the difference, Camara brought energy, Aneke some quality and Ladapo a great finish. Even Edun looked lively.
Covered end really got behind the boys at times too, can’t remember the last time the fans were as loud at the end.24 -
Terrible first half.Better second half, but when Andke came on we were transformed. Something happens every time he get the ball and he was getting the crowd fired up.The Ladapo strike was a thing of wonder. When did we last score a goal like that?6
-
Keep the faith, we always beat Pompey....8
-
We just look a different team with Chuks.7

Hoping that second half is a sign of things to come under Nathan Jones
Next three games are going to be extremely tough
Get through those in touch with 20th spot, and we stand a chance
Aneke and Ladapo looked decent together so hopefully we can keep them, and Camara fit.
May on the other hand... I'm aware its going to be frustrating for him as a Striker, especially given the lack of Service he's received in recent weeks, but it feels like Jones wont put up with those not putting in a shift, or be bedazzled by stats. Very disappointing display from him, especially when you compare his efforts to Kanu, who had the same service but didnt know what a lost cause was.
Hope that Ramsay was subbed as a precaution more than anything, looked a decent Full-Back, and ironically; Tennai does look slightly better over on the Left, than he does the right... Edun too looked slightly better for being dropped after Saturdays performance.
Not taking that result with too much positivity, still on my guard as this is Charlton.
Still a long way to go between now and the end of the season, lot of minutes to be played by all sides - But if we CAN play like what we did in the second half, then we've given ourselves the slightest of chances... I've said the word: "slight" a lot I know!!18 -
The fact we are still starting games with Thomas, Anderson and Kanu is a pretty glaring inditement into how poorly our recruitment team have handled this squad.
And that we're having to beg for Aneke to come and rescue us again.34 -
More fight and at least it's better than another defeat. But we aren't going to stay up by scraping draws. We need wins.
Like the look of Ramsey - just hope he isn't injured. Hopefully just cramp but worried it's his hammy.
If Chuks was fit for just 45 minutes every game we'd be a lot higher in the league.
Glad Dobbo is still here but it wasn't his best game for us tonight. Poor header that led to their goal.7 - Sponsored links:

Glass half full = there are a 6 teams above us that are no more than 5 points ahead....and we have to play most of them. Still lots of games to go to stay up.
Glass half empty = haven't won in 15 & have the top 3 to play before the end of the month. Then we play teams around us. If we dont get 3 or 4 wins before Easter we are down.6 -
Jones on Charlton TV... talks so much sense9
-
Was thinking to myself, would you rather have the points or the performance?
On February 13th, I would say the performance. This is a team so devoid of confidence that I think they might need one of two games like today to put things together, even if the final result isn't what you want.
It wasn't a great performance. The first half the team looked terrified, especially in possession. Good team talk at halftime, good come from behind point. That said, we were a couple of balls ricocheting around in their box and it just takes one touch for us to win.
Getting to bring Chuks on in the 60th minute changes a game. And hopefully we keep him fit AND he gives the rest of the side a boost, knowing that they can run harder and press and try to get their noses in front because when Chuks comes on it can be a different game. Technically he got the assist as well.
Bolton, Portsmouth, Derby. I think the most important thing is not letting heads drop too much during that spell. I would say some of our best football has come against better sides this season. The last two times we looked halfway decent for more than 10 minutes were against Oxford and Peterbrough. And we lost. But our run in isn't bad. And maybe playing with some of the pressure off knowing we're up against the big sides where we're not expected to get anything will help.
I am more hopeful now than I was an hour ago. But Nathan Jones really has his work cut out for him. He has to find a way to get that first team both defending better but also looking even somewhat competent in possession.13 -
we were lacking confidence in the first half and gave away the Goal, however we were by far the better team in the second half and greatly improved, we were unlucky not to Nick it at the end.
I honestly do not think we will go down and think NJ will keep us up 👍8 -
Another disgraceful performance until Aneke came on. There’s no lack of effort with these players, they’re just genuinely shit.
Pretty much all of our wins this season have come from a moment of magic from either CBT or Aneke and the genius that is Andy Scott decided to sell one of them without a replacement. We are absolutely 100% reliant on an 8 or 9 game run from Chuks otherwise I’m certain we’ll be down.2 -
Please no more 352 we simply can't play that formation - back to basics 442 - we expect the wing backs to do too much with no support and the extra centre back is a waste of a place when attacking. Also need to move it forwards much quicker and stop the endless sideways balls followed by the long punt forward.9
-
I actually thought it was an improvement and we were better defensively organised than we have been. The issue still lies with the wing backs. I think both had a good game overall but are so easily marked out the game going forward. They get the ball wide and are so isolated they have no choice but to turn around and play backwards, need the midfielders and forwards to help them out.
We also looked better going forward when May went off. Kanu did his best to win a few but the inability to get the wingbacks forward just resulted in aimless lumps up.

We need minimum 3 points from the next 3 games, IMO
That would require 3 draws and going unbeaten against the top 3, a huge feat at this stage of the season, or actually beating one of them, a huge feat for us as it snaps the winless run2 -
Also worth saying how scared their defence looked when Aneke came on. 2 of their CBs immediately looked a bit panicked and rattled. As well as his talent his reputation is very helpful. He also put himself in more dangerous situations than I remember too, it’s clear how much he wants to do well7

Someone said it earlier on the Dobson thread but holding onto Appleton for at least two games too long and then excluding Dobson from another two could well cost us.10
