Fisherman - The Congos from The Heart of the Congos LP, produced by Lee Scratch Perry.
Listening to fisherman whilst walking round on a hot day is bliss 👌

Also smoking a zoot helps 😂
  • Nubian Sundance, Mysterious Traveller by Weather Report... one of many great opening tracks!
  • The opening Orchestral piece to the live album "Hot August Night", Neil Diamond, 1972.
  • Tough between Gimme Shelter and Baba O’Reilly, but close behind them from that era of the Black Prince Bexley and Croydon Greyhound nights, I give you Our Song (Saturday Morning Pictures) - Stray, and Time Was (Argus) - Wishbone Ash.
    Loved the Argus album.
  • Huge Killers fan so Jenny Was a Friend of Mine would be my choice
  • Longships - The Raven - Stranglers
Message in a bottle - Regatta - The Police
Clubland - Trust - Elvis Costello
Mother - Plastic Ono Band - John Lennon
Survey Says - ! - The Dismemberment Plan
Schizophrenia - Sister - Sonic Youth
New Day Rising - New Day Rising - Husker Du
Rid of Me - Rid of Me - PJ Harvey
    Knut - The Unwinding Hours
  • From 'The Royal Scam' .. Steely Dan .. this one .. https://youtu.be/a7kduNihACs
Yet another great song about drugs.
  • Prime Time - Ammonia Avenue
  • Puressence - Sharpen Up The Knives (Only Forever)
Metallica - Battery (Master of Puppets)
Slayer - South of Heaven (South of Heaven)
Sleep Token - Chokehold (Take Me Back To Eden)
Deftones - My Own Summer (Around The Fur)
Also Deftones Back to School on White Pony album
First track on that is Feiticeira isn't it?

Nearly posted that as well. The fake crowd noise adds to the energy.

  • The Seabirds - opener on the Triffids masterpiece Born Sandy devotional, brilliant story song
What's Going On - Marvin Gaye
Almost With You - Opener on the Church's 2nd album, the Blurred Crusade.
New Day Rising - Husker Du, loud aggressive and strangely melodic at the same time
Falling and Laughing - Orange Juice on You Can't hide Your Love Forever. Production a bit ropy but such an enthusiastic song
There are definitely others I rate if I spend more time thinking

Birdland on 'Heavy Weather' is another great 1st track on what is i m o a pretty ordinary album otherwise
  • Black Sea - XTC - Respectable Street

Borrowed by Blur fkr Tracy Jacks.
  • Can't get enough - Bad Company
Well you're in the right place here 😉

Nothing from George so far, but with Motorhead's Ace of Spades already mentioned, I always found Jesus to a Child (Older) a right moody listen. Always reminds of a former girlfriend I was seeing at the time living the dream.

Moving swiftly on, as I had to when she ditched me,  how has Thunder Road off Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen, not had a mention yet. Winner by a distance for me.

I get together with a bunch of friends every Friday to discuss music and play tracks. By coincidence, our theme this week was "opening tracks on albums".

My favourites from last night were:

Get Ready for Love - Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
I Wanna be Adored - The Stone Roses
    Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues - Mclusky
  • Another Springsteen entry:

Thunder Road / Born to Run
  • Just been a treatin' myself to a bit of' Have Mercy' of Tres Hombres - ZZ Top,  which was my first introduction to the band way back when. Saw them in concert on the Afterburner tour many years later and they were, well, Top. What a show and what performers they were

I wanna be adored - Stone Roses
View from the Afternoon - Arctic Monkeys
Arctic Monkeys have a superb knack for nailing opening tracks (on their early albums at least).

View From The Afternoon, Brianstorm, Do I Wanna Know, are all brilliant openers.
