Charlton Summer Transfer Rumours 2024

Isted was an odd one , I never quite understood the signing in the first place and injuries didn't really help him but I was never quite convinced that he was a top class keeper at this level.

I'd add Coventry, Watson, Jones and REG (if deemed a CB). None of these NJ picks but most surely on good money for L1.Athletico Charlton said:mart77 said:Isted departure confirmed to Burton.
Good news. A really poor signing by us. Seemed a nice chap so good luck to him but there are many, many better L1 keepers around.
Maybe Burton would like to take AMB, Fraser, Edun and Gillesphey too...
But yet to see why he bought Berry and Docherty.0 -
Docherty and Berry are very good players for this level and Iv seen glimpses of both so far to know they’ll turn out good for us, Coventry I’m not sold on yet though I’d try Taylor against Pompey.Gisappointed said:

Dean Holden signing wasn't it? Went about as well as he did.mart77 said:Isted departure confirmed to Burton.
We've had pretty bad luck with keepers it seems like:
23/24 - Maynard-Brewer and Isted
22/23 - Maynard-Brewer and Woolacott
21/22 - MacGillivray
20/21 - Amos
19/20 - Phillips (Championship)
Zero consistency other than Maynard-Brewer that just didn't make the step up we wanted.0 -
He signed when Holden was manager but Holden was a big AMB fan and started off the season with him in goal. I reckon he was a Scott signingSELR_addicks said:

Joined in June rather than July so I'm sure Scott will claim it wasn't his decision, but I'm sure they were in the background at the time.Garrymanilow said:

Quotes when he joined were from Holden and CEO Storrie.

Isted has been dining out on that performance in the play off final for Barnsley for sometime.
Was basically hopeless for us.10 -
I said he looked dodgy after the millwall friendly & got slated for it, give him a chance etc but if he looks dodgy he looks dodgy........ & he did & was.Clem_Snide said:Isted has been dining out on that performance in the play off final for Barnsley for sometime.

Are they capable players? I've seen both comfortable on the ball in tight places. Occasionally. Not today. No end product. Slide rule passes? Only back to defenders. Dribbling? Not in the locker of either. Dobson-like tackling? No way. Even NJ mantra of pressing? Yet to see it. Pace? Dont think so. Heading ability? They are short arses. Pratley like shithousery? No. Dictate a game? Send me a link.Yann897 said:

Please although Berry had nearly half a season of a Premiership relegation year, why are they good midfielders?5 -
You’re basing all that on a 70 minute pre season friendly. Iv seen both players play over the last few seasons and they’re better players than Dobson for a start.Gisappointed said:

Chill out. I'm assured by my plethora of West Ham mates that he's mustard.JamesSeed said:
After the Wimbledon game I’ll stand by this comment.JamesSeed said:
Do we not also still need a creative midfielder who adds a goal threat? That for me would be a key signing.Callumcafc said:I felt very good about our summer business 10-14 days ago and still do. I said then that the only missing piece was a goalkeeper, and that is still the case.No need to panic yet but is starting to get to that time where it’s less than ideal that a player isn’t in the building yet. We need another defender and midfielder but neither are as critical as the goalkeeper.
Encouraged that Sinisalo was a target - he’d have been my first choice so a shame that he’s gone to Celtic. And still not convinced Coventry is a promotion winning midfielder.3 -
I hope I'm proved wrong but Coventry doesn't do near enough, both in possession and out of it.JamesSeed said:

I fear that Gillesphey is another January signing who is not going to measure up. He has done nothing to improve the back line and his distribution and raking long balls are usually overhit. The fact that Plymouth had won promotion the previous season does not make him a good player.5 -
I think it’s too early to judge anything tbh. Fans think we need to improve the team and it seems clear that NJ wants the same. The issue will be can we manoeuvre the players we want out of the team, whilst adding some starting XI quality to our ranks.I hope for everyone’s sake that we can make a decent start as I think raised hopes will evaporate quickly if we’re again starting a season in a similar fashion to last year. All we need is to do is sign up a high quality GK, CB, CM, AM and striker and we’ll be grand! I think two of these will arrive this week in probably Begovic and Potts.Despite today I think we’ll beat Pompey 2-0.1

No he wasn’t. The people in front of him were . To say he was useless is unfair . He was average at best but not useless.Clem_Snide said:Isted has been dining out on that performance in the play off final for Barnsley for sometime.

I’m so fed up of hearing the ‘good players for this level’ mantra it’s been mentioned for just about everyone we’ve signed in the last 3 years ,and that hasn’t worked out so well. I hope Docherty and Berry manage to adapt to this level, and that NJ can get them working really hard for the club.Yann897 said:

Not ITK and not sure if he's been mentioned already but I feel someone like Dan Crowley is what we're missing in the midfield0

He was very good especially first half and allowed Doc and Berry to support the front two .. that’s his job to tidy up and break up playJamesSeed said:

Why should championship level players adapt to league one .. we need them to bring the championship level to league oneShrew said:

So if we cant get rid of the old dross our hands are tied.Sage said:At the bottom of this article, NJ says Potts is still with us but had a big week in training, probably putting him through his paces, whilst Bishop is currently not training with us. We can’t sign anyone further until we trim the squad. I would assume both players will have contracts offered but we can’t continue until players like Fraser and Ness are off the books.

16th might be a good finish then.2 -
More waste.mart77 said:Isted departure confirmed to Burton.
How many more players is Scott going to be allowed to sign that will leave before their contracts are up. Churn after churn after churn.
The more I read tonight the worse it gets.14 -

That Crawley cup game with Isted in goal , it looked like Crawley would score everytime they shot at him , he was awful that nightClem_Snide said:Isted has been dining out on that performance in the play off final for Barnsley for sometime.

Isted came with limited Football League experience at 26 years old , the warning was there and proved thus
luckily this season we have signed a 26 year old keeper with limited Football league experience 🙄

Well we’ll know soon enough. Wigan will tell us all we need to know.1

The fact that golfie has a post complaining that we can’t get rid of our lesser players and then another post immediately after it complaining when we get rid of one of our lesser players because it’s ’waste’ and ‘churn’ is such a perfect summary of him as a poster. They should hang it in the museum46

Golfaddick gets a fair bit of stick on here regarding his opinion of all things Charlton.
But tbf the last 3 seasons have been total shit resulting in our lowest league position for 98 years.
He has been far more correct in what he says than some of the more optimistic posters on here .45 -
When you complain that we've got too many rubbish players then literally straight afterwards complain about getting rid of one of those players then one way or another it's just misery bingo. You complain about enough things and some of them will be accurate just by law of averages... and some of them won't.blackpool72 said:Golfaddick gets a fair bit of stick on here regarding his opinion of all things Charlton.

No point overreacting to a friendly result. I've not followed much of pre season, still think we're missing a few players to really challenge and letting May go cheaply was a bad decision1
-
Leaving the golfie part aside because I genuinely enjoy him, he’s hilarious, and this isn’t directed at you, but there’s this weird attitude towards being ‘right’ on here with regards to attitudes that I hate. If someone is constantly pessimistic about everything then that’s how they choose to look at things. When people are optimistic that’s them trying to enjoy supporting the club instead of hate it. This idea that afterwards if you had the nerve to not vomit blood every week in preseason you were ‘wrong’ and the people who relentlessly whined were ‘right’ is ridiculous. It’s very easy to be negative about everything and then say ‘I’d love it if I was wrong’ because you don’t lose anything. If we’re good your team is good, if we’re bad you can apparently enjoy offsetting the miserable football against telling everyone how right you are.blackpool72 said:Golfaddick gets a fair bit of stick on here regarding his opinion of all things Charlton.

Personally I recommend just feeling nothing ever.33
