I think I preferred it when we did most of our business in a panic at the back end of the transfer window. Bringing in players early makes the off season so boring.

Depressing when you have go on Wikipedia to remember the names of 2 players signed a year ago!

RonnieMoore does not seem to continually personally put down and abuse other posters, but the usual suspects continually abuse and put down RonnieMoore.
I have never read anything he has written that it seems to me would justify a ban, but bullying and piling onto him does not seem to justify a ban either.
Back in the day this song was quite popular, the spirit lives on.

2nd post of yours I've liked in as many days, you must be coming round to my way of thinking. 😉

It seems some goalies prefer to be career number 2's / 3's than being regulars.

I have been impressed with the calibre of keeper we have enquired about. Any of them would have been suitable as a clear number 1.

A couple more names to throw into the mix

Scott Bain Celtic. He really impressed me in our friendly against the Hoops a few seasons ago. Now number 3 at Parkhead although he seems to be their 3rd keeper in Europe .

Jack Bonham Stoke. With the Potters signing Johansson, would he fancy being first choice somewhere?
Surely gonna drum up some interest

Really …. why I have been going to the valley since 1968 then ????
    Only since 1968?

    I dunno, you're just a Johnny-come-lately 😏

That makes two of us then…🤔
Just done a double take on your username, Mr East Terrace.

Methinks that the 6168 translates to 6th January 1968, the day when Alan Campbell skipped past 3 tackles to score our winner against Millwall.

Your first game, I'm guessing? 🤔
Spot on Oggy, in fact confession time, i went supporting Millwall…🤫
But that was because it was my first match, and all my mates were Addicks, then the following match we drew 3-3 with QPR, and the rest as they say is history, now what would have happened had we lost, well, we will never know will we…😏

You were a closet Spanner? 😳

Well, at least you finally saw sense.
That QPR game was special too - our 10 men, our kid debut keeper in hospital, and losing 3-1 with 4 minutes left against top of the  League QPR.

Then Wally, Wally, Wally Went scored with a header from a corner. And who can forget Keithy Peacock streaking through and firing home the last kick of the game equaliser.

Proper atmosphere in those days. Grandstand Finish, we used to call it.
Aye, lad. You try telling the kids of today and they won't believe you 😏

    Ah, don't spoil it!

It wasn't even 12 months ago - and most of us right now were still trying to guess who they were.

Interesting, thought he would get a league 1 gig if he didn't sign for us tbh, he didn't look out of place in pre season with us

Well, I only went supporting that lot as a wind up to my mates, and to be different, but as you say, saw sense in the end after that.
But, couldn’t have gone any better or two better matches to start my Addicks mission that those two, great memories 👍
  • Why decline a contract at Lincoln to sign for Colchester?

It was a false dawn, ET.

Think of the pain we have endured ever since.

Why decline a contract at Lincoln to sign for Colchester?
I'd imagine because he thought he'd get a contract with us, the guy spent 3 weeks here and was flown out to Slovenia for a week with us, I would imagine he was very confident in getting a deal, and maybe the club was similar and we just couldn't come to terms on the contract
  • Didnt want Bishop tbh he would have been a decent squad player but very similar to what we already have think if we are to bring another in they need to be of higher quality who brings more Goals and assists to the team
  • Why decline a contract at Lincoln to sign for Colchester?
Will probably earn more money at Colchester being their star player contract than Lincoln on a squad player contract

The player will have good reasons.

The Cowley brothers have rocked up at Colchester, made some very decent signings and aiming for promotion.

Perhaps they've convinced him he'll be a key part of their 'project'.

To see the 3.4 home defeat quite obviously, you slippery customer you ! Ronnie, I'm warming to you, you've suffered as long as me. Write what you like Ronnie, trust me you've earned the right.

Colchester is good geographically for him, but yes surprising that he's dropped down to L2.

Ah, Keith Peacock scoring in the 2nd minute against the Scum. Who knew it was going to go so badly.

To be fair we are without a first choice goalkeeper 3 days before the first match of the season.

Marquee signing for them at that level, and mildly embarrassing after declining a longer stay at Lincoln.

I didn't start to suffer till we beat Huddersfield at home one nil Oggy, Mum wouldn't let me go. Then league and home cup games against Palace and I was hooked, I often think back to how smart my Mum really was.

Birds. Much fitter birds in Colchester than Lincoln.

Cheers mate … remember Derek Hales saying we have to score 4 to draw lol … Goldstone Ground doing the conga when we were 7-1 down…. I still own Ronnie Moore big toe I think but he was a great lad and come and done a player presentation for my father in law football team ( he brought his son along as we know went on to  be a professional footballer ) … back in them days we never won away game I think I went two years without seeing an away win …

but did we moan no we did not .. we supported the team no matter what
