Bit part Cambridge keeper sounds unexciting at first glance but he was in the England ranks as a kid, went to Hull for money and then had his career stall until he broke into the Cambridge side mid way through the season and played 14 games including a decent performance against us. He is not a name to get the pulse racing but should be fine as back up to a quality number 1. Our existing pair are sadly just not close to good enough.
Thierry Small replacement or competition? Interesting that Dunfermline have activated the one year extension clause, just as we have with TS.
Not necessarily either - possibly just making it clear that he's not actually irreplaceable or that other alternatives are out there so if he does want to take his chances with his one remaining year then it might not be as good a move as he thinks, and lose any momentum he's getting
It shouldn’t mean that Small is off, we can’t keep going into campaigns with less than 2 available in every position especially with our record with injuries
Rotherham are signing free agents I believe.....we aren't shopping in Aldi any more
Not to doubt you or anything Swisdom, but firstly, I don't understand the harm in signing free agents. You can sign fantastic players at any level of football on a free, and for how many players we need, surely we will need to rely on frees?
In regards to you implying we are only buying players, how will that be possible? We need around what, 8 players minimum, just to be competitive. Average price for a decent league 1 player with a view of being a championship player is approximately somewhere between 300k to 1 million, maybe 300k is too low even. If we average out each signing at 500k, that would be approximately 4 million spent on new players, if we aren't bargain basement hunting? Can't see that at all.
Appreciate you sharing of course, just sounds bogus.
Will Mannion doesn't sound like the sort of No 2 keeper who will genuinely push the No 1 for his place. He's not a kid, why is a 26 year old not getting any game time until the end of the season?
We already have two average No 2 keepers at the club anyway.
On Blair, basically he was very interested in Charlton, we made an enquiry and Motherwell was asking for 750K plus add on's which was within budget, but since then, they are now asking for million plus.. So we have stepped back.. This going to happen with the targets, but let's hope we don't get left with the dregs!
And again, not picking on you Dubai, but this is a typical CAFC redflag rumour post (for total clarity, I'm not doubting what you post is what you have been told)
If we have bid 750k for one player, when we need at least 8 or so, where would that leave the rest of our transfer budget on gathering the whole squad? I imagine not too much wiggle room after a 750k fee, if we can't manage to negotiate the remaining 250k or so.
If the player wants in, the manager wants it, and we think he would be an asset, surely we try and strike a deal? As it can't be a budget issue, as we aren't looking to sign frees, and are looking to build a championship ready side? That doesn't come by being tight with the purse strings.
I hope I don't come across the wrong way, but I just find these windows the exact same every season.
New owners mention money, we make unrealistic moves for players we were never in for, specifically ones that have interest from a higher level, player inevitably, turns us down. We scrape around and sign complete has beens other than the odd league 1 gems like Holmes, May and Taylor. Owners then say we did our best and how unfortunate it all is etc. Aneke will be like a new signing etc.
Going to be a long summer, and I genuinely think it's going to be a very underwhelming one. Luckily England will be on so that disappointment will distract me from the potential Charlton disappointment.
No wetting the bed here btw, haven't done that since I was 16.

Lot of it at the moment is agents trying to earn as much money as they can in the transfer window , leaking bids out so that they can try and generate a bidding war .. sure clubs like us don’t want their business in the open but if agents want to play games it’s best we walk away let them .. they will come back to our original offer once they don’t get a bite
This is going to be an exciting window , already seen two bids put in , one turned down but it shows that financially we are going to be big players.

“Six figure bid” rejected by Dunfermline.

care to elaborate?
Don't believe #cafc's bid for Dunfermline's Josh Edwards has been rejected, as has been reported north of the border.
Offer 'em a tenner, and blow the competition out of the water...🙄
